A step to "Public Mapchecking"
Hey guys,
since the mapreleases seem to cause a lot of controversy lately, we decided to make an attempt to involve everyone who's interested in the whole mapcheck process. Please note that the first stage is meant as a test, to see if it could work and to see if people really try to contribute (and not just download the maps and say goodbye), therefore there is no real "voting" included yet.
This means new maps will pass: 1. The XJ Mapcheck Team -> 2. The Public Mapcheck Area (1 week beta testing) -> Maprelease
There will be a new section in the forum for this to happen, where the new and accepted maps (or controversial maps) get posted, before they will be released released.
The first forum will be called "Applications": People who want to get access to the "Download" forum will have to post their application in there. But the main goal is NOT to have a second, bigger, Mapcheck team, therefore this we won't handle the applications too restrictive. Showing us that you are capable to write some good posts and that you have a bit expierence will be enough. Also: Only If the ppl abuse their position their access will be revoked - however it would be good if you'd stay active and take part in the testing regularly.
The second forum is the "Download" forum, which is only visible for the ppl with the new userclass. The links will be protected so once you are kicked out of the team (due to abuse or inactivity) you won't be abled to download maps anymore.
The third and most important forum is the "Maptest" forum: Everyone can access and discuss in this forum, which should be motivating for all of the people, because they can see all the screenshots of the new maps BUT not play them (at least not until they decided write an application). This is the place where major bugs and shortcuts found during the test can be posted! Therefore it's a big help, finding bugs or issues the mapcheck couldn't find, will improve the future quality of the new maps and eliminate big bug shortcuts. It will also give you a chance to bring in your opinion and thoughts about the map.
// The whole project will run for 1-2 months as a test, if it doesn't work (many leaks or people who download but don't contribute) we'll remove it, if it works and the mapquality will benefit we'll think about expanding the system and adding more permissions and public voting.
We'll hope you'll like it (and use it ;))!
Best regards,
