Record evolution*

By faker mapper·

Hey ladies and gentlemen,

it's been a long time since this topic was discussed and finally decided in a big poll, but quite a few scripts had to be changed, a few programs and plugins had to be written and a lot of work was going on behind the scenes. I want to thank everyone involved in the process of making this possible, no matter if it was just pointing us into the right direction or direct contribution to help making this come true. However, here we go, it's finally done:

From now on the realtime/millisecond system is in effect!

I want to use the rest of this newspost to inform you about the changes and answer your questions about how to find, and of course, use the programs or plugins you need to see the realtime of your demo:

Updated Rules/FAQ

Let's start with the rules first. Of course the Rules and the FAQ had to be updated as well. If you want to submit a demo in the future please make sure you have read the latest rules. You can find both pages under the following links: Rules and FAQ. It is strictly forbidden to change your keys/binds/aliases during a run, they must be set before you start the timer.
You should also make sure to use the new filename, when submitting a new record: kz_map_jumper_xxxx.xx.rar

2 Demos removed

During the process of re-checking all demos for their realtimes we found out about 2 significant demos: kz_pit had to be removed because the timer wasn't used indeed (at first our demo admins thought it was a "bug" similar to the kz_kzfr_rabbithighway bug, but it wasn't). Also kz_man_eznasa had a weird bug: It required kz_man_nasa in your counter-strike directory instead of kz_man_eznasa, which made it uncheckable in all the new tools. It's sad to lose a record due to such a weird bug, but I hope that you understand our decision to remove that demo.

Find out the realtime of your records

If you want to find out the realtime of your records there are two ways to achieve that:

1. By using the Official XJ AMXX pack v2.1 which includes a timer that shows the realtime (with millisecond support) in the end of the run. Note: There might be slightly wrong times if the game is tabbed or running under heavy cpu load (which is affecting the gametime) - and we can't fix that problem. If you are facing such problems try to avoid tabbing your game and make sure there are no running cpu/memory using programs in your background.

2. By using eDark's new program DemoChecker. This is the program our demoadmins will be using as well, therfore the time you see in this program is the correct time you should use to control (if you think you might have lagged ingame and the plugin showed the wrong time) and submit your demo. The program is available in a x64 version as well as in a x86 version.

If there are more questions feel free to use the comments and ask ;)

/Update:

Make sure you re-download the Official XJ AMXX pack, it was updated to 2.1 a few minutes ago and a little visual bug in the "end of the run" message was fixed: bugfix.

Update\

Best regards,
Your XJ team :)

Sweet!!11!

17/03/2010 22:31:00

good job Maybe this have nothing to do with this topic.. But will there also a news like this for the new mapcheckprozess??

17/03/2010 22:34:00

It will be the very next thing that will be taken care of

good

17/03/2010 22:38:00

ok, good news

17/03/2010 22:38:00

17/03/2010 22:55:00

Congrats XJ!

17/03/2010 22:57:00

lets see small maps raped !!

17/03/2010 22:59:00

Think, it was hard to check and rename all 539 demos. Good job! Just one question. If I have record with time 12:34.569999 - it's 12:34.56 or 12:34.57?

17/03/2010 23:01:00

m@ugli: obviously its 12:34:56 lol!

17/03/2010 23:06:00

@ M@UGLI, I had a chat earlier with faker and he said that it will be 12:34.56. But if anyone will ever have the same time, then the latter, "invisible" decimals, will be checked.

17/03/2010 23:11:00

Finally, XJ!

17/03/2010 23:14:00

Bout time.

17/03/2010 23:17:00

Good Job there guys!!! <3 Waiting for small maps' records spam... :D And of course, the mapcheck news. XJ is having some big changes right now. I hope that all will turn out good :)

17/03/2010 23:20:00

gj. now go 4 goldhops. :D

17/03/2010 23:21:00

gj all nice work.

17/03/2010 23:34:00

A-W-M-A-G-A-D Good job!!!! And yey for a new newspost and finally a demo release (perhaps)!

17/03/2010 23:34:00

gj xj`s team really nice work and like pieshels said waiting for the mapcheck news hope they will be good too :)

18/03/2010 00:01:00

beast.

18/03/2010 00:09:00

SUXXXX...it makes things complicated

18/03/2010 00:09:00

Please check the new rules so as you don't record demos for nothing.

18/03/2010 00:16:00

cant wait to see the run for the maps which had have been used with 1 sc to destroy them :[ downfall, longjumper, gogogo!

18/03/2010 00:17:00

Great News. GJ!!! :)

18/03/2010 00:52:00

Good news, xj :)

18/03/2010 01:00:00

What version of democheker should i download? I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2.

18/03/2010 01:07:00

Then download the x86 version, the x64 version is only for 64 bits OS :)

18/03/2010 01:13:00

this is cool :)

18/03/2010 01:20:00

Nice, couldn't have made a better choice. And what about the demos.txt? Won't it be updated? Well, i guess a lot of plugins would just stop working, but imo it has to be changed. Maybe just adding the miliseconds after the total seconds number like 123.45 wich means 02:03.45.

18/03/2010 01:32:00

Nice, a lot of new uber demos to come!

18/03/2010 01:35:00

GJ XJ

18/03/2010 01:45:00

Awesome GOOD JOB EVERYONE

18/03/2010 02:06:00

nice, should be interesting for a while

18/03/2010 02:18:00

very good job every1 who was involved! hope 2 see nice new demos beaten by the ms. :D

18/03/2010 02:28:00

Nice =D!

18/03/2010 02:31:00

nice one!

18/03/2010 05:10:00

Maybe it should also be said about the timerplugin, that it will or might show wrong time only when you TAB or have major CPU lags during "runs" (when the plugin is running). Wont affect the timer if you TAB/lag before you start the timer or after you stopped it. Probably pretty obvious, but some might not understand that ^^.

18/03/2010 05:46:00

nice job Great XJ admin !!

18/03/2010 06:02:00

Well done! Personally, I've experienced almost no discomfort with such great changes — I'm sure, that was a huge backstage work. Just some links broke down and there was no clear newsposts until this one. But if not pay attention to the backstage work, everything became better: 1) all the records became beatable, even hardest ones; 2) people must check their demos themselves, just to be sure that they are succeed; 3) XJ has received record system like in a big sport (e.g. F1), so kz for newcomers would look less complicated. And again, nicely done, guys!

18/03/2010 07:06:00

Cyber news. ! If the system `ll be so good, Latvians will change it too. ;) Good job xj !

18/03/2010 07:14:00

GJ XJ !!! Nice work admins!

18/03/2010 07:53:00

nice job, awesome!

18/03/2010 08:13:00

Good job XJ and eDark.

18/03/2010 08:36:00

finally everything is finished, xj made a big job, thank you guys

18/03/2010 09:46:00

great job everyone! and thanks for the hard work you put in everyday! <3

18/03/2010 09:56:00

gl reccorders

18/03/2010 10:10:00

good luck!

18/03/2010 10:20:00

2. By using eDark's new progam DemoChecker

18/03/2010 10:50:00

more wrs!

18/03/2010 10:52:00

+1 demos.txt

18/03/2010 11:00:00

Some guys will vanish from record list and new geeks will replace them. Who''ll they be? I'm not the biggest fan of watching demos that are 0.05 seconds faster on 5 minutes long map for instance, but still it's step forward and you did right decision about this and great piece of work. Nice one XJ. :)

18/03/2010 11:19:00

good luck

18/03/2010 11:27:00

now it's getting interesting :D

18/03/2010 11:54:00

nice you forget trc_climbgarden / bhopspace / bhopdwarf / bhopwaterrace they have many problem to open this demo. Remove this too :)

18/03/2010 12:19:00

Thanks a lot for your work XJ admins. A big GJ.

18/03/2010 12:29:00

Great job!! And now I'd like to ask you guys several questions: - Is DemoChecker's time checking script as same as one used for FPS Death or FPS Death (there can be .01 diffrence on longer demos)? - What did you use to check current demos for miliseconds?

18/03/2010 13:49:00

gj all

18/03/2010 13:50:00

Answer to second question: DemoChecker

18/03/2010 14:12:00

good job xj ;)

18/03/2010 14:12:00

Finally ;-) Great work XJ admins :) Especially ndR & eDark!

18/03/2010 14:29:00

great runs like Napz's coldbhop would be destroyed .. geekers should try to take much better, not only 0,01 milisec. Gj anyways, demos will come

18/03/2010 14:40:00

nice

18/03/2010 15:22:00

Yes! very nice, goodjob to everyone who were involved :D The only bad thing is it's gonna be like 50+ demos on rpz_downfall, and somw axn maps and so on, but still nice :D

18/03/2010 15:25:00

you, XJ administration, suck. Good luck stopbutton pushing geeks.

18/03/2010 15:46:00

Good call XJ!

18/03/2010 16:06:00

Respect for the guys who made this possible !

18/03/2010 16:15:00

so now will be can submit maps boxes,longjumper_x ?? and do better times ??

18/03/2010 16:30:00

we will see a surge of random players from around the world try to nerd short maps

18/03/2010 16:43:00

"/Update: Make sure you re-download the Official XJ AMXX pack, it was updated to 2.1 a few minutes ago and a little visual bug in the "end of the run" message was fixed: bugfix." only that bug got changed?

18/03/2010 16:45:00

Yeah, only that one.

18/03/2010 16:47:00

ok ;)

18/03/2010 17:06:00

GJ, XJ! nice work

18/03/2010 17:33:00

This gonna kill XJ 4 sho.

18/03/2010 17:43:00

not

18/03/2010 20:05:00

Did XJ died?

18/03/2010 20:20:00

gj, ty xj

18/03/2010 20:58:00

how many milliseconds do you have to improve a wr to get one?

18/03/2010 21:17:00
how many milliseconds do you have to improve a wr to get one?
Good question. It can be 0,1 milliseconds which is 0,0001 seconds, the smallest unit Demolyser can say, OR it could be 10 milliseconds which is 0,01 seconds which is the length of one frame at 100fps. faker gave me the impression that any improvement, even 0,0001 seconds could be a new WR. Don't take me for granted though.

18/03/2010 22:39:00

very good new and the right decission :)

18/03/2010 22:43:00

Glad to see this finally done!

18/03/2010 23:05:00

[blockquote]faker gave me the impression that any improvement, even 0,0001 seconds could be a new WR[/blockquote] If this is the case then there will be tons of new WRs every release. As long as people bother to record

18/03/2010 23:23:00

Demolyser is bugged with many maps, do not use it anylonger. To answer your question, fact only, the answer is: clintmo_dday done in 02:26.85 ( 02:28.86 koukouz ) (false times) Clearer and faster than a long text.

19/03/2010 02:45:00

About the demos.txt. I guess XJ could estabilish its standart format updating the time with the miliseconds. Maybe even do a section in somewhere explaining how it must be done. So communities and plugin makers would have just to implement/adjust the new estabilished pattern. No conflicts would happend. Waiting for this.

19/03/2010 05:35:00

gj,XJ!

19/03/2010 09:19:00

lol this is nice Good Job :)

19/03/2010 13:27:00

Wait a moment. I thought a millisecond is 0,001 seconds. The newspost says that it's a "realtime/millisecond" system yet all the times on the pages are in .xx format, not .xxx :| This is actually quite confusing. ndR so I take it as 0,01 seconds is the minimum improvement to a demo?

19/03/2010 15:50:00

The term "millisecond" wasn't well used, we should talk about "hundredths", just take a look at the Record section, there aren't milliseconds :) To sum up... The new time system isn't based on "10 to the power 3" seconds but "10 to the power 2" seconds =)

19/03/2010 16:26:00

Revolution??? LOL? D: btw gj to all XJ admins who did this job!

19/03/2010 18:27:00

waiting for the new release

19/03/2010 19:15:00

omg the evolution

19/03/2010 19:28:00

+1 waplet :)

19/03/2010 20:47:00

So are the "milliseconds" or hundredths as they are in reality rounded up/approximated in any way, since the demochecking tools show more decimals than just the actual hundredths that are used? In other words if the time is, for example, 05:00.129999 will it be rounded up to 05:00.13 or will it actually be the more inaccurate number .12 instead? I think the record times should be rounded up by means of the following "formats" (sorry if 'round' isn't the correct mathematical term, I have pretty poor English skills especially when it comes to these so-called technical terms) 05:00.129999 = 05:00.13 05:00.125000 = 05:00.13 05:00.124999 = 05:00.12 05:00.120000 = 05:00.12 Et cetera. I'm sure you know how the "rest" goes and you understood the meaning of my question/suggestion. Anyways... there are alot of things to say about this "thought" of mine, even some problematic things pop up to my mind. The thing I really want to know here is how you treat demos with .9999 and .1000 etc. - thanks in advance.

19/03/2010 22:06:00

very nice

19/03/2010 22:32:00

kafds, I'm pretty sure there is no rounding. The unneeded decimals are just cut from the real time.

19/03/2010 23:13:00

There is no rounding, even if the real time is 05:00.129999, we will release it as 05:00.12. The only case we will take a look at the milliseconds is when 2 players send the same times on the same map. That's what is going to happen for the next release and rpz_downfall[boxes].

20/03/2010 06:28:00

If a plugin uses RoundTime message to show the time during the run, is it legal or not?

20/03/2010 09:51:00

Awesome guys. P.s.: with what program I can see the real distance for a lj / cj / bj.dem? :D

20/03/2010 10:57:00

fantasist, no

20/03/2010 15:24:00

Alright good, that system should work - thats how I imagined it myself .D:ASD:! Anyways as kREWAN asked in the chatbox "will the 60 minute server uptime-rule be removed"? Its completely obsolete now, since timerbugs aren't a problem. :-)

20/03/2010 16:50:00

Looks like you didn't read the updated Rules, this rule was removed :)

20/03/2010 17:53:00

NIce!

20/03/2010 20:37:00

I don't read any rules, I make the rules!

20/03/2010 20:48:00

Such an evolution on XJ and almost everyone welcomes it. That must be a first! =D Real good job XJ admins! The game is more fair now.

21/03/2010 11:56:00

nice one ! <3

21/03/2010 15:41:00

Can the mappers now use the timer from sadpuppy??

21/03/2010 18:03:00

this is very good :)

21/03/2010 18:35:00

hm^ it always was allowed, just not many people know about it

21/03/2010 19:28:00

No, this timer have some bugs, or you have to do something to get work perfect.. Maybe the new timersystem has a problem with it.... Only a question..

Sitka
22/03/2010 12:57:00

=)

23/03/2010 09:51:00

How to off plugin when i want to play on surf? I cant put make sv_airaccelerate 100 and developer 1.

23/03/2010 23:27:00

amx_pausecfg pause kz_ljs_xm.amxx in your consol Panda Style.

04/04/2010 02:44:00

Nice! :)

03/10/2010 12:22:00

gj xj team
