ROTW Classics #4 - Alts!cH on kz_exn_ezjungle
Run Of The Week Classics is now in spotlight, with its 4th edition!
Who is Alts!cH?
Alts!cH belongs to the first generation of KZ. Not many of you know this, but he was the direct competition of the all time legend T3dbundy.
He got pretty well known after their movie,Potatismos, was released. And I say they because among Alts!cH it featured two of his friends, FikoN and kimo.
He also was the one to first beat some LJ boundaries and a great bhopper as well.
Since we are friends and he is still around us, I decided to ask him a few questions so you can be up to date regarding his thoughts.
The long one isn’t ready yet, but I’m definitely ok with the small-talk we are about to have.

Hello CyclopP! It's a pleasure for me to be here, and somewhat of an honor to be thought of… after all this time!
Why not, you’ve made history. Ever thought that after all this time something like this could happen? People are still remembering the past glories and what pushed this game forward.
Well, to be honest, I thought I was just a relic in the world of kz. Someone that very few nowadays heard or talked about. No matter what I achieved back in the days when I was playing, this comes to me as quite a pleasant surprise actually.
I’m glad you feel that way. It’s a nice feeling for us as well to know that some of the old guys are still around.
Nowadays the world of KZ got pretty big. XJ has 70,000 users and with the other national communities we easily reach 100-200K. Not to talk about the offline guys that are not registered and just playing on their lan.
As you know, in the past, KZ was more like a family. Just a few guys active. Considering those numbers and how many things KZ has accomplished, do you think we made it? Is this how it was supposed to be?
I think that this is not the way it was meant to be. It was not intended to be such a huge deal from the start I think. It was supposed to be just a fungame, something different from playing regular Counter Strike.
Instead KZ has exceeded all expectations and has really become what it definitely was supposed to be! Not just a fungame or some funmaps, but a real game! Even though it’s a ramification from another game, it is still a game of it's own, which has become rather competitive, wouldn't you say? ;)
I really do think it's awesome, and especially with the release of KZMOD, but I do NOT think it is over yet. There is a hell of a lot more to come!
People are just so crazy good at this game. Never thought I'd see the day when us "oldtimers" would get completely crushed, surely beaten. But not in this kind of fashion. And I actually enjoy seeing it a lot!
Yea, I think it’s safe to say we gave birth to a phenomenon, especially, like you said, with the release of KZMOD. I mean that’s something made from scratch based on KZ, our own game. We surely came a long way.
So, after the success of the ROTW series, XJ decided to make a new series, based on that, but with classic demos, from the time when XJ was new, with the purpose of honoring the old guys on whom this game grew up. And we thought that you are one of those guys.
Do you think the idea of bringing back some of the old memories counts for something?
We sure did give birth to a phenomenon. I am glad to have been a part of something that became so huge! And I am especially glad that I was there in the early stages and that I have been able to see first hand how things have developed over the years. I bet some of the other guys who were around in the earlier stages feel the same way.
I always liked the idea of ROTW. I've popped in from time to time to watch these clips and I have to say it is a good thing coming out of XJ.
The idea of bringing back old memories is something that I personally enjoy greatly! Without knowing all these players on a personal level, I knew T3dbundy, a0ke and arF from back when I used to play and it's not only nostalgic seeing these runs. It also makes me remember how much fun we all had back then, as a small neighbourhood-like community. I love how it was in those days. Big thanks to you for reminding me of that!!
I can surely say that every old guy misses those times. Personally, I am happy with the thought that I was able to pass through all the generations.
But what about your run on kz_exn_ezjungle which was chosen for the ROTW Classics, do you remember it? Nowadays they found a shortcut that grants you a solid time under 3 and a half minutes, making the current WR ahead of yours with 1 minute. I guess that back in the day you worked a lot to reach the top in a WR manner.
That was a run I made just because I enjoyed playing the map so much and had played it countless times. I just decided to perfect it a bit, which at the time is what I did :D
I remember myself somewhat realizing that this shortcut perhaps was possible before it was made in the wr run, or as a trickjump. Don't know whichever came first. But being a lazy guy like I always was, I tried it for a while and then gave up the thought of it.
Most of the time I didn't work that hard to get a wr. I just tried to understand the map, the jumps, the techniques, and the limits of it. And then tried to go through all the jumps which could save me time by understanding them. And then doing the runs.
I was just trying to outsmart rather than outskill the previous recordholders. Which is just what has been done with this shortcut, and I kind of did think it was possible.
Well my friend there are still many questions I’d like to ask, but this is not the time. I know that all of us want to hear more from you, which is why I hope that one day, the big interview we have started will see the daylight.

Damn man, it wasn't easy to convince him to move his white thing and start making some edit again. "I don't have that, I don't have vegas, I I I..." you what? It was a done deal anyway.
So yeah, the favorite moviemaker of KZ is hosting this incredible edition of ROTW Classics. After all, he is a classic as well, right? See what I just did there?
