Hello there, welcome to the 109th edition of the Run Of The Week!

A cinematic ROTW.

Seriously shNz, how do you do it? That's what everyone is wondering. But not me, nooo. I just know that you are a natural and you will go down in the history as one of the best. Your bhop is just unmatched, like no one's else. Improving by this much a record at this level and not having a perfect run to back that up, speaks for itself.

And hey everyone, it's rusty. Yeah, the guy who won the ROTW award for the best stylish filmmaker 2012.
I'm not surprised that he lived up to all of our expectations, but I'm definitely surprised with the manner he did that. This cinematic edit right here is too good to pass by unnoticed. I don't know about you guys, but by my book I'd dare to say he kinda grabbed a new award for 2013.

remarkable style however i've never been fond of it. there are the usual blueish space-like intro which doesnt fit at all with the colors of the rest of the clip; it doesnt feel really consistent, the emo-like song (couldnt be more cheesy), the weird particles that have nothing to do here etc... i liked what you did of the part where shnz failed tho, that was fresh. and sig run shnz (with room for improvement :>)

damn dude rusty might be my favorite editor now with that. loved all your rotw edits (aztecclimb/adventure) and generally anything you edit. consider me a fanboy from now on. but I wanted to talk about how you guys pick runs. do you just all vote in the admin forums on your favorite runs? usually you pick respectable runs, and of course shNz's run here is obviously nothing to laugh at. however, it has three noticeable fails which rusty tried to clean up with editing. i'm sure shNz himself is in disbelief that you picked his run here. was it just a matter of "wow he took 10s off kelta, must be uber" or what? because if I were to think objectively there are clearly better options like shNz on dustbhop (ez version) or shNz on desert (desert is rarely beat, and I believe has never been in a rotw). if you guys just wanted to showcase a run with a huge improvement margin despite fails then fair enough. not trying to be a dick or anything just genuinely curious on the process. good job nonetheless!

pizza^: I think I mentioned this a dozen time when the discussions started in the comments... The ROTW series does't have the pretension to show the "best" run of the week (which is impossible and always underlying subjectivity anyway), it is just showing ONE of the most amazing demos of the weeks that was picked because of certain criteria. Anyway, a little insight: We tried to improve the choice of the ROTW run in the past, but we have to face the fact that most admins don't have enough time to watch every single record out there every week - so there simply weren't enough people interested to vote regularly. So it's basically me, Cyclopp and the moviemaker picking out one of the most interesting demos of each weak that we see fit. I admit that this weeks choice might be a bit controversial, but for me personally a big improvement on a hard and former legendary map as dustbhop_h weighs higher than a clean and overall smooth run. It might not be the 1000% most impressive demo of the last release, but it is certainly not boring and it impressed me a lot how an amazing bhopper like shNz can, nowadays, easily beat this map that former pros really struggled with back then (and which wasn't beaten for a long time as well). I don't see too many ways to improve the system, maybe form a "jury" out of interested demo watchers that vote on the ROTW regularly, but after all it will still be impossible to remove the subjectivity completely. If you have a mind-blowing idea how to solve all the problems, don't hesitate to tell us.

okay either way you look at it, it will end up being pretty subjective. aren't you contradicting yourself by saying it's one of the most amazing demos? for example top players might not fully agree with that statement. not trying to be egotistical or anything just a thought. sure, the main rotw audience is for casual players who just want something entertaining to watch. but then that raises the question: why wouldn't they want to watch a nice smooth, clean run instead of a shortcut heavy map prone to having fails? when I recommended shNz try that sc in the run we both knew 10s was easily possible for a player of his caliber. anyways a bit off-topic. but that brings me further to my point.. shNz is well-known for being the best bhopper already and has been given countless rotws on popular bhop maps to highlight that fact. you don't think watching shNz on a speed climb map like desert is more impressive to watch? i guess that's where our views clash as I've always thought desert to be more prestigious of a WR to have. i don't have a mind-blowing idea, but what about opening up a poll each week for the ROTW? sure it might be a bit tedious to do every single week, but this allows you guys (the admins, and editor) to single out maybe like five demos you enjoyed. but then give the final choice to the community, you know the ones actually watching the videos every week. anyways just my 2cents, I feel the longer this discussion goes on the more pointless it becomes. i've told you my thoughts, and vice versa. I will still watch the runs every week for other reasons other than seeing an awesome run. (like rusty's editing! :])

pizza +1337 the dustbhop （ez version） is smooth and perfect！ i think that is a better choice … however，the h version beat kelta 10 sec with sc，but with fails…thats not a perfect one… rotw means “run of the week” or “beat most of the week”?

ROTW was just meant to show ONE good run, certainly not a "boring" one, but it isn't meant to mark/price the BEST run of all the demos of the past week. It is just a clip for your entertainment, nothing more. [b]pizza^:[/b] Well, if you agree that it is a subjective decisions, then you are going to understand that it's not possible to please everyone every week. A poll every week? I'm pretty sure people would lose interest pretty soon (just like with the public mapcheck system), it would delay to process a few days and would make it very hard to post the ROTW in the same week as the demo release was posted (waiting until x votes are made?) and then most importantly it would totally ruin the surprise and the movie makers wouldn't have a little say in the choice of map at all. Thought about it, but doesn't seem like a real alternative somehow.

It has been proven many times that people, in general, tend to lose interest very fast. We had at first an admin vote in a private forum, and as each voting session past, fewer and fewer votes start gathering. We then went for a somekind of script, were admins just typing the name of the map and press ok, and again, only the first sessions had more votes than the previous system. And like faker says, ROTW is not about showing the best run, but the most entertaining. But what does best mean? The biggest improvement? A run with no fails and still big improvement? A run with no fails and small improvement? The smallest improvement? And so on... and pizza, he didn't try to "mask" that fail. He actually tried to focus on it. In my opinion, I think that's the beauty of the run. The fail itself and the fact that he failed and managed to get a far better time than the previous one. Maybe you don't agree with me, but these kind of runs must be chosen as the ROTW. Adrenaline, controversial (not cheat suspicion), that have the wow factor. And this one has it.

Why not just write down all the new records for the week down on a piece of paper and then draw it out of a hat. You could also make it fun / interesting if [b]Rusty[/b] or another person edited a video of you pulling the map choice out of the hat as an introduction to the video. I think this would be very fun. I understand that by doing this you might not get the most 'epic' run of the week. That being said, it would take the subjectivity out of the mix and add a bit more fun to the process [i](by making a video of you pulling the name out of the hat)[/i]. I am aware that the run might not be the best one of the week, but that's the ... luck of the draw.. :D Anyways, great ROTW by shNz, and great editing Rusty.

I am, indeed, at disbelief that you guys chose this run, among so many other flawless ones. That is a very interesting choice and also a great surprice for me(again), because I didn't expect anything like this at all. At first I didn't even want to submit this demo, but eventually I decided to do it and I'm glad I did. Although the run itself is sketchy, the ROTW is very nicely edited and turned out to be highly entertaining. Something interesting about this run is, that it is a great example of randomness. I wouldn't have tried to do the shortcut if I didn't have that fail on the highjump. I originally intended to make a flawless run, without the shortcut, which would've been slower. I definitely wasn't going for anything under 2 minutes, but I ended up doing it with ugly fails. :D That kinda reminds me of akkord's run on kz_forgotten, where he luckily pulled off the shortcut. :D I can see most of people are satisfied with this ROTW. I hope you guys dig the run as much as the edit. :D Anyways, thank you XJ for providing ROTW's. No matter which run you choose it's always gonna be enjoyable. <3

nice work rusty finally the rotw are improving. Need more movie makers that take pride in their work so we don't get the garbage that was getting put on the front page. The song choice is not my type of music at all but in saying that I felt like it worked and it was not that annoying I had to mute it. The run was really good with some lol fails. I have always enjoyed shnz's demos as I tend to like bhop/speed maps over longer climbing maps but I do feel that the people in charge tend to be a bit shnz happy when it comes to the rotw. I didn't have as big an issue this week with the run that was chosen, I do believe there was most definitely better choices but in comparison to some of the previous weeks this one wasn't as bad. I think a big contributing factor to the poor choices for rotw is a bit of bias from the people deciding. If I am wrong on that then I guess it must just come down to the people deciding not actually watching the demos. I used to joke with lewly when he was demoing about doing spins and strafing like certain jumpers to gain faker points because the rotw had nothing to do with how good the run was. I know certain people in the admin team don't like me and also seem to have some deep-seated issues with Australians but this is my [b]OPINION[/b]. If the admins want to start warning/comment banning people for voicing there opinions I guess this is not the community for me. Just for you faker for future reference. Nice way of expressing yourself. WTG for showing garbage respect for every moviemaker who took his time to create something for your eyes to see. I would have used the word ignorant to describe your judgement, but I think it might be too harsh, even though I'm right. So, 1)You can't make miracles in 1 day of capturing/editing/rendering a rotw. 2)Kinda dumb-ish to think that a CEO and an ex COO of such a big community will show their fan preference so publically (considering they have fan preference) 3)And again a dumb-ish racism to say we have issues with Australians. And do you actually think any admin with take their time to think "Do I like that dude or no?". They just take actions upon your behavior, which imo should be totally banned for this site.

Agree with Pizza about choosing the ROTW. Easy version of dustbhop has that "WOW-effect", from my point of view. Hard version has 10 sec gain, and its harder to produce...but there's no that effect, sorry. However, that run was strong and supreme edited, so i had pleasure to watch this masterpiece:)

I've a little idea about picking demos for rotw. Let's say there are 30 demos in release. For example 6 admins who has currently time to watch demos can split those 30 demos into parts of 5 demos. They pick up one run and type a report in 1-2 sentences why would they choose a demo from their "demos pack". 6 demos will remain to decide about. And now admin will check the 5 remaming demos and conclude which demo is best choice for rotw. You can't please every single person even if you would make the best rotw system ever.

I had no idea they dont have time to even nominate. I just assumed that admins should be able to contribute somehow to the site and if they do some other way I apologize. I dont mean it in a bad or offensive way. There are like 15 admins. faker said most rotws are choosen by him, you and MM. I can see leggie around very often, Spider1 and few others. So in my opinion its not so impossible as you point out.

All those mentioned by you had the possibility to vote. In fact all the admins did. It was an open voting, just so we can maximize the chances for a fair vote. And there are like 2 admins around here who have been doing the admin job for years and continued doing so. The rest went inactive, no exceptions. So yea... it's kinda impossible to relay on the whole squad for a specific job.

Even with few fails, run still looks amazing, what else you could expect from this guy ? I'm glad to see he still can take a good time on such a hard man, to be honest this map is still big deal... Good job my buddy <3. Jake, your edit impressed me as well, glad to see you are back on track after a really long time. I see you have already got compliments about your edit, that's good. Good taste of music, it fits good with edit, at least for me. I really enjoyed watching your masterpiece and i hope we will see more from you in near future. Good job. :)

So I would suggest you use the sites you posted to look up the difference between defamation and opinion. "false or [b]unjustified[/b] injury of the good reputation of another" As long as cheat accusations aren't backed up with somewhat reasonable facts, we simply won't tolerate them (outside the chopping block) anymore, because they really got out of hand and are killing the mood and good atmosphere in the community. If you take most of the other big communities and website as example it's the same there, they won't let you flame and accuse each other all day (esp. not without evidence or valid arguments at all). So please get over it.

@ faker you still seem confused did you mean to say the difference between opinion and factual assertion? or are you just pretending to have any clue about defamation? If you would like more information on the topic I am happy to give you an insight into the laws of defamation in Australia. With the Australian and other nationalities part may I ask then, why as soon as I wrote something in another language I was warned in a pretty short amount of time then in the chatbox and I think maybe once or twice in the comments I even pointed out to your admins that someone had written something not in English and they are still yet to be warned The one in the comments I am referring to I posted on the 23/2/13 and still no warning? I had a quick look at his comments and I counted 5 posts that are breaking the sites rules and yet he did not have a warning on his account for any of them. Can I also point out when you accused crazzzed of trying to kill the community for 6 years and threatened him with the same fate of other Australians? @cyclopp wow what did I just read... They just take the appropriate actions based on your behavior, which in my opinion should be that you are totally banned from this site. A quick rewrite not perfect but at least now it makes sense. I wasn't sure with what you wrote, if you meant those type of actions should be totally banned or that I should be, so I went with that I should be banned as that seemed more relevant. Just for the future cyclopp calling someone dumb and ignorant in broken English only makes you look dumb and ignorant.
