ROTM #6 - shooting-star on kzm_fineblock

Hello there,

For the 8th time since its release back in 2010 by SilverNinja, kzm_fineblock has been beaten once again. This time, it is by someone we don't even need to introduce anymore, shooting-star himself!

We decided to choose this demo over many others for a few reasons: The run looks really "rushed", making it feel like a speedmap of some sort! This is quite impressive to say the least as the map is rather technical.
The core of KZ is speedrunning, and this run shows it quite well! The difficulty of the map doesn't seem to be much of an issue for a player like shooting-star.

I'll let the WR holder himself talk about what lead to this moment:

When this map was released in 2010, I focused on hard maps even with my longjump being just enough to pass them. Back then, my absolutely hardest trophies were kz_sandblock2 or kz_dimblock, and kzm_fineblock really made me sweat. I recorded a run and even 24 minutes made me proud of my achievement. Seeing SilverNinja's 18-minute record, I thought myself "if I push just a little more...". However, koukouz completely destroyed this idea by sending a run below 5-minute mark. As the time went by, my longjump as well as other aspects of my game improved and the map difficulty dropped dramatically to the point, when I was able to beat it with careful run with relative ease. That was in 2017 and later that year, I beat even fu_extreme in the similar fashion. Few hundreds of playhours passed and I seemingly achieved a new level of strafing, which allowed me not to be as precise with my prestrafes. This journey led to the current run, which I would consider to be incredibly annoying to record a few years back.

We also have a sad news to announce. Nubz decided to leave the administration for various reasons.
