DEMO RULE UPDATE

By phayzeeVW mapperrecord holder·

Hello everyone,

We come to notify you of a recent demo rule update:

We only accept demos recorded with version 8684 of CS. To check your version, type version in the console.

This decision has been taken following the emergence of new information regarding the latest build, which has different physics on trigger_push entities than the legacy build.

As noted in the changelog of the latest build (https://www.half-life.com/en/halflife25/), the point of interest is:

Fixed push-able entity movement being based on framerate.

which seems to affect trigger_push entities.

The trigger_push entity works by setting a speed (u/s, units/second) and a direction, and upon being touched by a player, it would push the player in the given direction at exactly the specified speed.

However, on the latest build, things have changed. On a trigger_push entity with a speed of 100, the player would no longer be pushed with 100 u/s, but with 100 units/frame, since the movement is now based on the framerate. At 100 fps, this would mean a speed of 10000 u/s.

With the potential of these changes giving an advantage to the players using the latest build, along with potentially needing to add new [-md] routes and some maps not being possible to complete anymore, we decided to completely forbid the latest build, until more information arises and more updates come.

Starting from the time of this post, demos using the latest build will no longer be accepted.

The demos already recorded on the latest build will be accepted, provided they don't make use of these new physics.

Kind regards,

Demochecking team

Does this make the current WRs where this is taken advantage of, harder to beat?

If a record were to be set on the new build with the trigger_push entity, it would have given that record a massive advantage. Fortunately, there haven't been demos like that on the new build, as most, if not all, have been recorded on the old one.
