When trying to play the harbor demo by kimo I get this error: Model sprites/semiclip.spr not found and not available from server. Cannot continue without model sprites/semiclip.spr, disconnectin. Anyone know how to fix this?

10/08/2005 19:26:00

yeah have the same prob..

10/08/2005 23:57:00

I did this record on kzfr servers and we have semi.spr , we use in only in cup so u have just to come once on our servers and you will have all .spr or other u want ;)

11/08/2005 00:14:00

15/11/2009 00:58:00

at first I was really negative to changing it to decimals, but now I've realized it's the best and most reasonable system. the fastest run is the world record, simple as that. decimals counts too.

15/11/2009 01:00:00

agree

15/11/2009 01:48:00

it would be a big mistake to change`it to realtime records. the current rule is better. kz won`t be fun anymore, all will resume to geeking,hating,flaming...

15/11/2009 02:01:00

I voted yes, because it would be more competitive.

15/11/2009 02:19:00

"it would be a big mistake to change`it to realtime records. the current rule is better. kz won`t be fun anymore, all will resume to geeking,hating,flaming... " What? You want to stick by bugged times that don't make sense?

15/11/2009 03:19:00

just look at any real-life time record.. it's down to who knows how many miliseconds.

15/11/2009 04:28:00

naah, changing the system to decimals/realtime records is totally ridiculous.. those short wrs like clintmo_longjumper or rpz_downfall[boxes], for example, will be in every release submited, improved by 0.01 segs... no sense.. imo this should stay like this.. and see how can the rules be changed for a better understanding ...

15/11/2009 04:37:00

I voted yes cuz I didnt get the poll, but my answer is no. It'd be a mess.

15/11/2009 11:56:00

Voted yes because I think it's the only fair way to see who is really the fastest on records. The current system just isn't real/fair. For example someone has a wr of 02:58 ingame and 02:58:98 real time, then someone else gets a time of 02:58 ingame and real time of 02:58:01 he still doesnt get the wr even though he is almost a whole sec faster. It's to much about lucking the bugged ingame timer. Sure there will be alot of submitted demos in the beginning but in time it will come to where it will be hard to beat the times of the shorter wr's with decimals also. As for the longer wr's, it will still be hard to beat them cuz most people can't get close to those wr's now. Why would they be able to beat them with milliseconds after the change?

15/11/2009 12:15:00

Cmon , i want milliseconds!:D:D:D

15/11/2009 12:15:00

Vote: Yes. Simply because 1 second is not enough for accurate world records.

15/11/2009 12:38:00

It's kind of weird. Seems like people don't want to see any new records on these 5 second maps. I don't think it's very cool that once you make a record you have it for an eternity. Just to make you confused, let's imagine that we don't like 1 second as our smallest unit you can beat a record with. Let's change that to 3 seconds. If you made 1:32 on a map where the world record was 1:34, your run wouldn't be the world record. Wouldn't you want to change back to 1 second? If yes, then you also want to change to the xx:xx.xxx format. If you don't, then I just don't get you. Omilo wrote just what I wanted to write, so if you haven't read his comment, do it now! There's completely no use for the in-game timer anymore. What help does it give? Nothing. We have always had much more precise tools to measure the exact real time, it's about time to start using them fully. The current rules are really confusing for many, or why do you think someone "beats" rpz_downfall[boxes] in every release? The rules don't even offer any advantage over the old strict rules where the times were taken straight from the in-game timer.

15/11/2009 12:45:00

Flibo is making a point there very nicely. So, if "too many demos get submitted", the rule can be changed to something like "you have to improve by 0.1/0.2" for your demo to be accepted. Anyways I think that it should go by the real decimals.

15/11/2009 13:36:00

you will get inacurate voting results by leting all the community decide of which 0.whatsoever% people have a wr, who are actually affected by the change, not the whole bunch

15/11/2009 13:55:00

Good idea akkord, will be done after this poll.

15/11/2009 14:32:00

It won't be a mess at all I think by now [link=http://cosy-climbing.net/news.php]Cosy-Climbing[/link] has proven by now that this system works. So yes all the way.

15/11/2009 15:07:00

yes.. i think only the world record holders should vote...

15/11/2009 15:19:00

This doesn't only affect current record holders. What about the future record holders? i.e all the users in this community.

15/11/2009 15:55:00

old system ftw

15/11/2009 15:56:00

old system is okay, needs no change.

15/11/2009 16:18:00

omilo & SpiNe said it.

15/11/2009 17:03:00

then there would be tons of records, make it like it was _before_

15/11/2009 17:07:00
This doesn't only affect current record holders. What about the future record holders? i.e all the users in this community.
True, but I don't think "democracy" is a good way to handle things anyway, at least in this manner. Only very few decisions in the real world are made like this such as president election etc. In my opinion it's the admins' decision.

15/11/2009 17:46:00

Changing to decimals is the more reasonable way to go. If people strive perfection, they deserve "accuracy". Voted "Yes".

15/11/2009 21:46:00

Some time ago I claimed for decimal timers and was of course refuted by some reasons such as "using 0.01s is still meaningless because if there's some demo beaten by 0.001s". As I've said, 0.01 second is the least time unit that could be sensed by most human. So we should use this to obtain both precise and fairness. Cosy-climbing is now under decimal rule and it proves to be working perfectly. BTW, I want to see a separated poll for only ever record holders. I bet the result won't be totally in against opinions.

15/11/2009 21:54:00

If you change the system, then what would the use of the ingame-timer be? It would just stay in there and have no value at all. You could just as easily remove it from any future kz maps (leaving only the button). That would be silly.

15/11/2009 22:14:00

I am sure that if xj accept a new rule they wont release everyday demos even if there are 20/20 demos because it will be tired for the admins to check 123812398 demos per day u will need new democheckers etc.

15/11/2009 22:19:00

right Stefki4a thats why i voted no too.

15/11/2009 22:24:00

Stefki4a/demo it would still serve as a way to see what your approximate time would be. Or for wr's that are longer which almost always gets beat by more then 1 sec it would be usefull. VoDkA`BoY, it will be like that in the beginning for sure and demo admins will get extra help for that. But in time it will slow down.

15/11/2009 22:51:00

more courage for modification... (pro-arguments given above)

15/11/2009 23:08:00

@Stefki4a & dEMolite, as omilo said (gosh, I think I'm quoteing him in my every comment), it gives you a direction of what your record time is. It's not like this is anything new since even if you get the same in-game time as the old world record you still might beat it in case it has a timerbug. The in-game timer doesn't even need any value to exist. Why would you want to stick to the old inaccurate method anyway? @VoDkA`BoY, they don't do releases every day anyway and that fact alone will greatly reduce their workload. There won't be 2^90 new demos, or well, actually, pretty close to that, but they only have to check the best demos of each map e.g. if someone does 00:05.534 on rpz_downfall[boxes] and someone else improves it by doing 00:05.321, they only have to check the faster one. There aren't that many maps which are under 30 seconds long anyway (24 maps in total), and to add the fact that even they can't be beaten eternally, I don't think there would be even much more demos, to check at least.

16/11/2009 00:14:00

1) Future maps would be without an visible timer, just a button 2) There would be a digital timer (amxx plugin) which shows you the time, but.. it would show it ONLY if you've finished the map, because it gives you some advances if you can see your time while climbing. 3) There would be a easy-to-use program for checking a real-time. FPS-Death is way too complicated and slow to use it as a real-time checker.. demolyser is also not supported anymore but would perfectly fit for it. So.. i voted yes, because I think it's time to move forward. Demochecking is already on an advanced level and needs 0.x time measuring system.

16/11/2009 00:43:00

I voted yes. This "compromise" between the in-game timer and the "real time" has never been the most fair, neither has it been the most simple system. There's two kind of people in this; the people who want no changes, and want to stay with the good old (but really bugged) Kreedz timer which has been used for like 6 years now, and the people who are ready to face changes who realize the need for a new system since records are getting harder to break. It is not easy to create a timer, you need a lot of experience, but even if you have the skills to do this, you will probably never get an accurate timer (I don't know if decimals would even be possible or any reliable on a in-game timer) in CS. Therefore, it's really absurd still to stick with this extremely complicated system, it gives both the admins and records more trouble than needed (i.e. a lot of people submitting demos on rpz_downfall[boxes] thinking they broke the record (which they might actually have), but get their demos denied of strange reasons, which the admins again and again need to deal with.) To the people who are questioning the necessity of the in-game timer: Someone said (think it was owned?) that both in-game and "real time" could be announced in the future demo releases, and preferably also in the record section. It might seem weird to start out with, but we'll avoid questions like "Why does it say 03:29 on the records page when he stopped the timer at 03:31?". Also this way we're not denying this existence of the in-game timer, we're just using it as a "hint" (as someone else also said) of the "real time". You may have noticed that I several times put "real time" in quotes, that is 'cause I am questioning how accurate the FPS-Death timer really is. It does somehow rely on the entities in the game (and we probably can't avoid that) and therefore it might be inaccurate too. Either way, if this new system gets on the tracks, we probably need a new program (as i.e. omilo has stated) for solely checking the time on a record demo, which I really hope will be reliable. No matter how boring it might become with decimals, I'm looking forward to seeing this new system be applied, it will be a relief for the whole community.

16/11/2009 12:13:00

I voted NO, recs admins already have enough work. zhady and tintin will have to be brave if the new rule is validated.

16/11/2009 14:07:00

Has anyone ever thought about Hanniball? :(

16/11/2009 16:29:00

no... sure it will be more competitive, and maybe timerbugs in-game will be eliminate, but it will be totally useless to see short maps pwn at every rls and also people would just try to beat these ones... seriously it don't get any sense.

16/11/2009 18:34:00

To all the people saying it will be too much work for the demo admins, that is complete bullshit. At Cosy-Climbing we recieve many many more demos than XJ. If the rule is introduced the rate of submitting for maps under 30 Seconds will drastically increase. but Like flibo said that's only 20 something maps, and this maps will become quickly very hard to beat anyway. It's not like the map can have infite records. We are three demoadmins at cosy, we check many many more demos than XJ, we can handle it. If XJ can't that's their problem.

16/11/2009 18:51:00

I think the wr holders and also people who are interested in recording wrs are more concerned for this change. I voted no, cause I simply like the actual system, and I'm pretty sure many record holders agree with me

16/11/2009 19:22:00

The people who vote "no" don't have any valid points except their feeling of "old and safe system". I knew that most (if not all) voters against this wont have any REAL points for not having this system implemented, since deep down inside you know that it is right anyways. In almost all of the time arcade games, such as random rally games in your old playstation or more sophisticated computer games your time will almost without a doubt be marked with 00:00:00-system. Even the most plain games such as Elastomania mark the times with decimals - if I'd think of Elastomania without decimals, it would be a real pain in the ass and I wouldn't have enjoyed playing it at all back when I was actually playing it. The records in that game are pretty stable after all these years but sure, they got beaten at quite a fast rate in the beginning - now they're not beaten at all, by anyone.

16/11/2009 20:30:00

How old is Hanniballs WR? And how old is the map?

16/11/2009 22:14:00

Both sides have gotten valid arguments up in the comments, so I won't bother myself to add another. Decimals are the way of the future, if you don't do it now, you'll HAVE to do it later. Though 00.00:xx is overkill, 00.00:x is teh win.

16/11/2009 22:18:00

yeah, akkord is right... let only the wr`ers to vote for this change... lol

16/11/2009 22:21:00

/\ Yes, they should have a big say on this issue, but they can't leave the whole community without records outside. It's like take 50 Hanniball's and see if they want to lose their record (don't know his opinion tho, just an example).

16/11/2009 22:56:00

+1 wRath

17/11/2009 02:40:00

i think by now most people know my views on this issue, i voted HELL FUCKING YES. what right do people have to attempt to hold the game back for nostalgia sake? sure the old timer seems to hold a strong place in your heart but seriously...its not like a pet dog you've had for 6 years and now have to go out the back and watch daddy shoot it. its still gonna be there, so you can spend however much time you want with it, ok? i dont like people saying, "im gonna get so sick of seeing the same maps every release" oh im sorry...are the wrs recorded specifically for your enjoyment? rofl GOD COMPLEX! imo world records iz srs biznus, its not 'the hills' or some trashy tv show just for mindless entertainment rofl. they take skill to perform and they are there as a testament to the players skill, and to show the fastest time possible. sure u'll see its there in the releases, its inevitable, but nobody is forcing you to click on it and watch it..... i dont think it should be only up to the world record holders at all. i dont submit demos here yet i still feel affected when i see timer bugs and shit like that. they are probably all just shitting themselves cause all they care about is holding their records. i doubt they care about seeing the best times possible. *calls up usain bolt* - "btw usain, ur most recent time in the 100metre race doesnt count cause that other guy nobody cares about said he didnt want his time beaten by miliseconds, bl man" - FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU- imo the only reason not to implement this rule is cause its alot of work....but does the end not justify the means?! i imagine a utopia, with lush green plains and abundant forest and wildlife, at night you can see every star in the sky. a place free of light pollution and exhaust fumes. you find within the rainforests a beautiful waterfall, wherein there is a cave that contains a scroll from god. it reads- "do not feed on the apples from the sacred tree or face eternal damnation, oh and btw lulz xj needs decimals." but seriously nothing stays the same forever, and xj has been stagnant for a long time. its gonna be a rough transition for most who try to hold onto the 'old ways' but for me its just logical, and i'd pretty much adjust to it by the first release, and to those who would lose sleep over it - just vote yes anyway and get some pills from ur GP. K!

17/11/2009 02:46:00

cool either way :)

17/11/2009 07:04:00

lol hazard :D "dude don't invent light in the house , keep it dark , old times :D " voted yes. why ? read wrath omilo flibo hazard etc that's WHY

17/11/2009 07:09:00

and btw, geeking wouldn't be the same . it would be slightly at a lower stage don't worry koukouz, kelta etc ! you don't have to geek a map a month or so, like you do, you can now geek lesser ! cause you need to improve only by a bit, not that much

17/11/2009 09:03:00

Yes.

17/11/2009 13:55:00

My major point for still having voted no (for the moment) is that this will drive us into a pretty complicated and ugly situation. However, I agree with all your points about the competition and I also don't think it will create work we can't handle. Furthermore the records MIGHT get uninteresting to watch, but just like hazard mentioned... they are not recorded for the users viewing pleasure - they are actual work and "THE" competition in kz. A competetion for the players. However, I don't think we are 100% ready for such a change in regard of the technology. Let me explain why I think it's like that. As you might know we have the ugly and nasty timerbug demos. Furthermore there are normal timeshifts on almost EVERY demo on longer maps, meaning a 4:30 ingame timer run is always 4:31 in realtime - sometimes and probably even most often there is more timeshift. If it's more than 2-3 seconds, we talk about a timerbug. So if we switch to decimals, we got to switch to REALTIME records at the same time. At the moment demos.php shows the time from the kz-timer, not the realtime. So it shows 4:30 if the kz-timer is 4:30, even if the realtime is 4:31 (which is the case in 90% of all demos). This is going to create a whole new problem... The ingame timer will get completely irrelevant, it can't even be regarded as guideline anymore, since "ALL" (90-95%) realtimes will differ from the kz-timer; not only the timerbug demos. So all the records will be like 1 or 2 seconds slower than what the actual timer ingame showed at the end of the run. Now mix that up with timerbug demos and you'll see that this can and will lead to very "funny" and "unprofessional" situations, too. Imagine: A run with 4:45 time ingame and realtime 4:46:33 gets beaten by a realtime of 4:46:27 but because the demo has a timerbug the ingame timer shows 4:47. This will look pretty odd anyways and get some ppl confused, just as the current rules, for sure. - My attempt to solve this is technology. If this problem is fixed, I'm going to support decimals with full heart and soul, too, btw. 1) We need a tool to measure the absolute realtime of the run, without much knowledge and skills. FPS-D can do that for the moment, but a better tool might be a good thing. Easy to handle and fast to get the times of multiple demos, not only for the users to check their times of the run - more for the demo admins who have to go over 500 demos and check for the realtimes. eDark is already working on this one, so cheers to him. 2) We need a solution for the timer issue. My idea was to develop an AMXX plugin (if that's even possible) that disables the ingame-timer (so it doesn't show a time anymore at all) and counts the realtime in the background. After you'll finish the run the plugin should show the realtime - hopefully exactly the same time that the external tool shows to you (the tool would be still needed to avoid manipulation by "hacked" plugins or crap like that, even if we would get such a plugin). So basicaly the start and stop buttons are only meant as start and stop points anymore - or for people who get nostalgic and want to play it with the old timers. Other than that, we'll get rid of their function as a "timer". Also - and more important - they trigger the start and stop points for our external programs for time measuring, so they still need to be implemented in the maps in the future, too.

17/11/2009 14:17:00

I dislike the fact that people will need the amxx plugin to record wr's. We should leave this point out and that's it. Everyone will understand that the timer into a map may be bugged.

17/11/2009 14:29:00

i dont quite get the issue with the first half of ur post faker, you say that theres the timershift in almost all 4min + demos, but i guess thats only a visual thing with the kz timer - well that is, assuming the fps death gets past this and detects the exact real time anyway? tbh its not really an issue in my eyes, i mean, after they time a run people will be checking fps-d anyway, to confirm their wr...it doesnt really matter what the timer shows, even if its something like 3-4 seconds off. cause im pretty sure 100% of the community is aware that it is flawed, as long as theres some kind of statement to nullify the confusion i think the community can deal with it. sure it might be annoying to have a few ppl say "wtf it says its faster but timer shows the slow timezz" but im sure most people will catch onto the fact that the timer doesnt show decimals either - which i assume can only lead to the conclusion that its not how the times are confirmed. or by demos.php do you mean the page? rofl im so nub at t3h comput0rz... if so i think cosy-climbing again could help out with that, their page shows the decimals too :S and like i said earlier with the fps-d, if its too complicated, when/if the decimals are implemented, maybe add a tutorial in the news post or something with easy to understand steps on how to work it. so that everyone can understand how to measure their times. - but it seems to be the shared conclusion that a better tool is necessary. i have mentioned im not too educated in such areas so i guess im not lisenced to comment, but if cosy climbing can handle it, im sure xj can too. but gl to edark, it would be better for everyone else i guess if he can come up with a better one. and again, is the idea of this amxx plugin to hide the timer for aesthetics? like does that actually make a difference to the WAY it is timed? or is it just to void the confusion within the community of seeing such a stark contrast between the time shown on the timer and that on the page? although in saying that, it does sound like a good idea and will front as a more professional method, i like that solution and hope that somehow it can be achieved. GL to the coders ....and..... VOTE YES ON PROPOSITION DECIMALZ!!!!!

17/11/2009 14:37:00

i voted yes. this doesnt have to change NOW... its must be considered and planned, before implementing ofc... still... this is the way to go forward. i would like to congratulate kafds, hazard, omilo and flibo for their outstanding arguments. they said everything that could have been said. For the "this should be decided by record holders only" people : "THATS A LOAD OF CRAP! everyone is a potential record holder lol... so everyone deserves the chance to vote. _maybe_ it would be better if the comments are allowed only by making a comment, that would limit the people that just pick a choice for no reason. gl with the changes ;)

17/11/2009 14:37:00

chrizZo you don't actually NEED the AMXX plugin. At the moment the guys on cosy are using fpsdeath. The AMXX plugin will help them see their time instead of opening fpsdeath all the time and stuff. faker I'm not sure if you meant that but, you don't have to change the demos.php page as CODE, but as information in it. You don't need different page or select method - you just need to change 1.30 to 1.30.55 @ records.

17/11/2009 14:42:00

well atm people actually use amxx plugins when recording (hook, ljstats, /start, /cp, /tp, etc...) so what would be the problem with an inconspicuous timer that is only visible when you press the stop button? i`m sure a new XJ addon can be developed without problems. the only trouble is making that timer plugin. :)

17/11/2009 14:46:00

the difference then boom, is that the plugins like hook etc etc arent COMPULSORY its a bit ~ to make an amxx plugin compulsory for recorders to have to use

17/11/2009 15:22:00

[blockquote]chrizZo you don't actually NEED the AMXX plugin. At the moment the guys on cosy are using fpsdeath. The AMXX plugin will help them see their time instead of opening fpsdeath all the time and stuff.[/blockquote] Again, you DON'T HAVE TO use a plugin, you can use the fpsdeath if you want.

17/11/2009 15:45:00

This will happen anyways, if not now, then later. WRs are getting so much harder to beat day by day, and I'm sure someday theres not many demos to take anymore, because you can't. Adding decimals is the way to go, IF you want kreedz to be "alive" - closely every demos that are being submitted by now is only beaten by 1 or 2 seconds. And if this keeps going for 5 more years, whats gonna happen then? So my vote is yes.

17/11/2009 16:03:00

The reason we need this is NOT 'cause records are getting harder to beat or whatever. Well, they are, but in fact a lot of records are beaten, but do they get accepted? Nope, 'cause you need to get a timerbug (lucky coincidence!) to beat it bla bla... Just wanted to say that. I really hope the people against this change will realize what a great step it is after some time.

About the demos.php: I wasn't talking about the php script behind demos.php, I just wanted to say that we currently have the times shown by the timer in our demolist (=demos.php) and not the realtimes, even though we don't have decimals just yet. But "just adding the decimals" is not possible, since a 6:30 demo is in realtime 06:31:22, so changing to decimals needs to go hand in hand with a change to "realtimes"... u can't just pick the 06:30 time from the timer and add the decimals from the realtime, which would make it 06:30:22, which is not true, since it's 06:30 +82 seconds.
and again, is the idea of this amxx plugin to hide the timer for aesthetics?
yes, that's one idea behind it.
or is it just to void the confusion within the community of seeing such a stark contrast between the time shown on the timer and that on the page?
That was the main intention behind it, yeah.

Ok i think it should be changed becouse it will get the competion higher and a change is needed to be made more demos will be uploaded and we will see the ultimate time that is possible on the maps ... yeah there is gonna be some extra work for the jumpers and admins but still i think its worth it :)

this will reward people who put time into their WR attempts

Like flibo, omilo, hazard etc have stated, it's time for a change to increase the competition and as spine stated: The guys at cosy obviously manages.

AMXX times are not accurate.

Since when, ndR?

22/11/2009 06:57:00

I voted NO, but after reading all the comments ive have changed my mind and will now vote yes!

22/11/2009 12:34:00

i think most people here are missing the point behind the change. There is more than just "times are getting too hard to beat" - that is probably the weakest argument in terms of changing the system, an infinitesimal blip on the radar. The main reason is because the way the system is now, is not fair. let me explain for the 5thousandth time ------- some times, by chance, the timer will display numbers different to the 'real time' - for instance. on a certain map the real time may have been 4min 56sec 22milisec - and the timer may show 4min 56sec however the next person to record on the same map, may have the real time of; 4min 56sec 02milisec (beating the previous time by .2 of a second) BUT due to the occurrence of a time glitch, the timer may show 4min 55sec currently, the second demo will be accepted due to the fact that the timer shows a 1 second difference to the previous time - EVEN THOUGH it was only beaten by .2 of a second. therefore if there is no time glitch, you must beat the old record by 1 full second, however if by chance a time glitch is to occur, a new record can be established with a difference of less than 1 second (in my example .2) i think that is the main reason the admins realised they need to do something to change the system, the additional points are just further solidifying their decision.

Wait a second puppetz and Hazard. Why are you saying that "times are getting too hard to beat" is a bad argument? I'm pretty sure that is one of the main points in this change. Why would you want decimals in the first place if you don't want to beat rpz_downfall[boxes]? Wouldn't the xx:xx format suffice as long as the times are taken from fps-death?

23/11/2009 23:14:00

i said its the main reason the ADMINS want the change. imo they wouldnt be considering the work if the current system wasnt so flawed.

24/11/2009 15:36:00

I'm sorry for my previous comment, it wasn't very good, I wasn't thinking very clearly (probably because I had a fever :(). Just nevermind, it doesn't really have anything to do with anything intelligent. It's just nitpicking.

24/11/2009 17:29:00

Aw, poor Flibo.

24/11/2009 20:15:00

a decymal system can work only with a new timer system

24/11/2009 21:23:00

@marting: Isn't it prooved that you can't map more accurate timer to HL engine? Am I right? Anyway I voted no since after rule change wrs can and will be taken by lucky frames. Anyway somehow I also find desimals more fair, so I say YES in the end. Anyway my word doesn't really have lot of weight in here and in this matter.
