Demo Rules Updated + oTcHeTo
There has been a lot of discussion about oTcHeTo and his 257 demo these past few days. To clear everything up, oTcHeTo did use an illegal cvar when recording the demo. His demo included an illegal setting for cl_sidespeed which gave him an unfair advantage compared to other players. This tweak gave him a + ~1 unit prestrafe increase. He has not been banned, but has received a warning for the illegal demo.
Unfortunately, we are told that a select few others might have used commands to gain an unfair advantage, so starting tomorrow, the demo admins will be hard at work checking all LJ demos for possible cheaters.
In conclusion, eDark has created a new program that will detect any CVAR that has been changed either by the server itself, or through AMXX. This surely is a wonderful thing as it moves us 1 step further in detecting 100% of all cheats. Many thanks to eDark! Here is a statement he made about the effect of sidespeed.
"Sidespeed doesn't affect the normal (running) speed, it affects the division of the running speed. For example, cl_sidespeed 400 is 50% sideways and 50% forward of the total speed. To keep this ratio, sidespeed and forward speed must be the same value. It's easier to prestrafe with the cvar because your prestrafe doesn't have to be perfect to achieve a high number."
Since the rule about jump enhancing cvar's has just been added, all users caught will receive a warning. Click HERE to see the updated rule. In the future, any users caught using any command that gives an unfair advantage, you will be banned at the admins discretion.
<3 eDark & PEAK for telling us about sidespeed. :D
UPDATE : Updated eDarks quote, and oTcHeTo's jump length with regular settings would have been 254.791.
