XJ Pro-Challenge is over

By faker mapper·

is now officially over.

As some of you might have already noticed the Pro-Challenge was going slow, or to be more concrete, was put on hold for a while. Now it's official: The Pro-Challenge is over, earlier than expected.

There are 3 major reasons for that to happen:

1. radon, the map designer in this project, decided to leave the XJ staff a while ago due to his real life obligations and couldn't spend more time on mapping as well.
2. I couldn't find a lot of spare time for XJ lately, therefore it wasn't possible to finish the challenge earlier or find another mapper to fill in.
3. The general interest about the Pro-Challenge doesn't seem to be so big, we expected a lot more people to participate. I think having 50+ jumpers involved each month wasn't such an unreal goal, was it? There are so many other good jumpers around these days who didn't bother to participate...

However, now it's time to announce the winners:

SuPa22 points
brian 21 points
Flibo 19 points

And here are the prizes:

#1 will be honored with 3 months VIP Gold

#2 will be honored with 3 months VIP Silver

#3 will be honored with 3 months VIP Bronze

Because it was impossible to earn 5 pro points in order to get a prize as well, we made some slight adjustments to the system:
-> Everyone who took part in the contest twice (=50%) is going to win:

1 month Vip Bronze for winning 2 pro points:

akkord, anny0, Gnomas, Lolz, LoHoX, wRath^, Z0ck3rOO7, zhady.

We hope you enjoyed this project as long as it lasted; we sure did. At least we got the major disciplines covered (longjumping, bhop, speedclimb, precision) ;)

Gj!

26/10/2008 14:36:00

nice project

26/10/2008 14:36:00

i knew that :/ gj all.

26/10/2008 14:39:00

thopa felt, but was faster :) Nice demos.

26/10/2008 14:40:00

it was a good project just to bad it stopped. i hope to see a new project with another unique idea. pz

26/10/2008 14:40:00

i wanted to participate but i cannot finish the 1st part of bhop and 249+ block of longjumps and all the spikes!

26/10/2008 14:44:00

Yeap... Maybe next time (if it will be) you'll create not so extreme maps. Challenge wasn't so popular cuz first map was inhumanly extreme, so no unkown people were trying 2 beat it when easier map came, cuz knew that after it you'll make smt hard like longjumps (not all good jumpers can do 250 or you are thinking that I'm overreacting on challenge levels of map releases cuz have nothing to do?) or those spikes... Like they are not extreme... Pro-Challenge was dead since first map.

26/10/2008 14:46:00

gj jumpers

26/10/2008 14:59:00

Forgot to say: GJ to Thopa and Supa for making some sick demos for the latest challenge, and also to brian and Flibo for getting high up on the scoreboard!

26/10/2008 15:03:00

I think the Problem was, that not so many People can Finsih even one Map of this Pro Challenge, iam Good in Kz but to beat 1 map was very hard and the time was misserable :P

26/10/2008 15:05:00

goood job all!

26/10/2008 15:30:00

gj winners and all who participated ^^ radon, i hope you return <3

26/10/2008 15:35:00

:( so this is gone forever?

26/10/2008 15:42:00

to have 50+ jumpers participating you should have made the maps cooler, brighter and easier... good it's over. gg to the winners

26/10/2008 15:52:00

flipsyde`, what do u mean with "cooler" ? But i still hope when XJ gonna run another challenge or smth, then maps are easier, and not only for "pros"

26/10/2008 16:03:00

GJ Supa, brian, Flibo :)

26/10/2008 16:34:00

Good job guys :)

26/10/2008 16:43:00

Prochallenge...did you expect more than 50 players would join faker? You should have added this quote from Bibo's interview and to the prochallenge presentation. A good jumper is a guy who can beat records like cliffez under 0145 easily.. if you can get world records but u cant get any close to the wr in cliffez, you’re bad! Longjumping isn’t important, like 250 is fine. Bhops.. you gotta get close to goldbhops wr Explains the prochallenge pretty good in my opinion. Next time, please let the whole community participate!

26/10/2008 17:08:00

gz to brian, supa and flibo xD well about the prochallenge.. i like such projects... hope you come up with something similiar in the (near :pPp) future.

26/10/2008 17:16:00

2. I couldn't find a lot of spare time for XJ lately Hehe JohnR, maybe you should not have spend so much time in playing in da ESL ;) No offense <3 I know you are studying atm^^

26/10/2008 17:22:00

Igge there's 50,000 daym memebers.... 50 of those can't complete an avg map?

26/10/2008 17:36:00

hope pro_challenge will have a comeback.

26/10/2008 17:58:00

SICK PRIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!

26/10/2008 18:03:00

Sure they can Supa but they compete against real pro's and wr holders. Even if you can complete the map it's far from enough to recieve a point. I feel I'm an average jumper. I couldn't finish bhop, I can't jump 250+ and I wasn't able to finish speed in less than 4 minutes. I didn't send my 9 min demo of precision because I felt it was not worth it.

26/10/2008 18:47:00

great job everybody!

26/10/2008 18:47:00

why don't you find another mapper?

26/10/2008 19:49:00

Igge, what is this talk about average climbers competing against pro's? Evey if the maps would be easy they would compete against the same pro's. And the pro's would win. I can agree the bhop map was a bit hard, but the rest is all about geeking, just as any other map. prochallenge precision is hard because of the limited area you stand on, but you can't make a spike map where the spikes is 4x4 units. And the speed map was easy, but still not that many people submitted a demo. The longjump map was also done with 250 jump just because there is more than 200 people that has done over 250 units, yet very few people submitted a demo. And it was a prochallenge for pro's and people that know how to finish a map without checkpoints and such people also has patience enough to geek a map til' they finish it, no matter the how hard it is.

26/10/2008 19:54:00

I personally thought it was weird that prochallenge_longjump didn't have like 100 demos. Everyday i see people stats jumping with 252-253-254 stats, and that on like every jump. And with such stats, it's not hard to do 250 within like 10 tries. I consider myself as a good player, and I reached to the 250 jump, but I never made it. And I'm not angry or sad about that. I just wasn't pro enough to beat it. Then I don't deserve my name among the people who actually finished the map. And setting a 245 limit would just be stupid - that's a level XJ had 2 years ago, and people are simply better nowadays.

26/10/2008 20:02:00

thopa's right. it's called pro-challenge for a reason. if radon made an extremely easy map to play on every month, no one would get better. so if you're just an average jumper complaining about the difficulty of the challenge, you should know why.. you're not willing to take the time to beat it. if you're first time on any given map isn't worthy enough to receive a point, then try again.

26/10/2008 20:16:00

word

26/10/2008 20:24:00

thopa and brian, sure you are right. I'm just trying to figure out why only 50+ players submitted demos. I got suprised too after I saw the longjump results. I expected to see many new wierd and different names. But it's prochallenge and even if the average climbers geek they can't get any points. I might be stupid but I think it would be nice with a challenge where more people can participate. It would be more fun for the players in my opinion.

26/10/2008 21:29:00

more people could of participated.. that post made no sense.

26/10/2008 21:32:00

longjumps didnt get so many demos because it lagged like hell at 250

26/10/2008 21:49:00

Pro-challenge just wasn't interesting enough for the majority, I think many look at it as it was only for the top-players only, and automatically think that brian, zhady or supa would win.

26/10/2008 22:21:00

+1 wRath, maybe the name was a bit confusing too.. PRO-challenge :E But hey, since when there has been competetions for EVERYONE, no matter of their skill level? Ye, back in kindergarten.

26/10/2008 23:58:00

Agree with wrath. It seems kinda hopeless for me to participate since I already knew who the winners were :] it's nothing you to do about it, but it's just how it is.

Fact or Fiction
27/10/2008 00:25:00

Best is to sit and do nothing. And comment that everything what other are doing is shit. I think even if prochallenge wasn't very succesful at the end, it was a good try. Really good one. Congratualations winners. Hope we'll see more projects like this in the future. It's enjoyable even if your are not compete with pros :) Well done radon and project managers.

27/10/2008 00:42:00

congratz SuPa and really nice dem thopa =D

27/10/2008 07:04:00
Remake: flipsyde`, what do u mean with "cooler" ? But i still hope when XJ gonna run another challenge or smth, then maps are easier, and not only for "pros"
i mean that the maps were all held really dark and a bit depressing. making the maps brighter, sunnier and so on would imo have made the maps more interesting and fun to jump.. i didn't enjoy playing them (except this speedchallenge map)

27/10/2008 08:47:00

Well done Supa, brian and Flibo! I kinda agree with Numb on this one, especially on the bhop-challenge. To be honest, it wasn't even a bhop-friendly map - it was more like extreme-fastclimbing. It was a map for brian or heL I would say, not a map for StormZz, Cordyline or Pitter. I love bhopping myself and I do like hard bhop-maps aswell, but I really prefer making an easy bhop-map hard - by making it as fast as possible with as many skips as possible. I think alot of bhoppers would agree with me on this. Else, I loved the whole idea about the pro-challenge, and I have watched a lot of demos each release.

27/10/2008 08:49:00

Sorry dp. Impressive time you got on the last challenge thopa, gj.

27/10/2008 10:53:00

nothing to loose und nothing to win for most of the climbers and why would i spend hours and hours to get a bad time, thats just bad buisness for the nickname... sry for my bad eng ;-) all in all the pro challenge is for pros und iam average... speed was really doable for all

27/10/2008 12:51:00

why hel didnt win anything

27/10/2008 15:20:00

i can say just one - GJ all, esp winners and akkord ;)

27/10/2008 15:54:00

thanks for vip :)

27/10/2008 16:04:00

No matter what maps would have been made, it would be a challenge for the pros to beat each others times. Whether it's easy (where you have to climb fast) or hard (where you have to climb constantly and make as few falls as possible). I think it's really pathetic that you stopped this, 'cause radon is not as active in mapping anymore (the other 2 reasons seems a bit weak). As for further projects, you guys (XJ crew) have got to look forward in time, and predict what kind of trouble you could run into, and not just let it run itself, and see where that goes. I'm pretty sure you could have found another mapper if you wanted to. Also, it would have been better to have some "backup" mappers, so you make sure that this project (which pretty much rests on the shoulders of the mapper(s)) wouldn't suddenly stop, like it unfortunately did. The same shit happened with the communityblock (which no one really knows what's going on with). You stopped it, cause there was some error (allocblock full?)with compiling like 50 blocks at 512x512x512 units each. I know a lot of mappers filled in awfully many jumps, but you guys could have tested it before people send in blocks, and found a limit for max. blocks in the map. As mappers, you should know that Hammer is strictly limited when it comes to making big, complex maps. I know this maybe sounds a bit harsh, and that I easily can just sit here on my ass and say whatever I want (I'm not responsible), but I hope you get my point. I also hope for further projects that they won't just "disappear" like this. Well, even though I didn't participate in the XJ pro-challenge, it was fun following it as long as it lasted. Nice job participants, radon, faker, and everyone else who made this project possible.

27/10/2008 17:36:00

The prochallenge_bhop map was too much about luck for me :/ The only time I finished it without cps, I did 10:59, which I am very proud of. The map was really frustrating and built in a really demotivating way, some of these levels are really hard and a lot about luck, and if you fail the next one, you get back to the hard level again. This is very frustrating! And as flipsyde said, these maps were built very dark and depressing. I really hate maps like this! All in all, it was an interesting challenge, but it could have been better!

27/10/2008 19:18:00

I think it was a very cool tournament. Make it one more time. Same maps. Just make a new "keyword". Maybe more will participate now. :)
