Hello, exams are finished and I wanna buy a new computer and I hesitate between 2 configs.
I'd like to know what is the best one ^^

Config 1:
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4 Ghz
4096 Mo DDR2 / 533MHz
GeForce 8600 GTS 256 Mo

Config 2:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3,00 GHz
2 x NVIDIA™ GeForce 8600 GT 256 Mo in SLI
2048 Mo DDR2

Thanks for your advices!

What do you wanna do with it? Nowdays most games are cpu based (correct me if im wrong). And with that powerfull videocard you can handle the 3d envoirement. I think you should take config 1. And double videocard isnt THAT neccecary these days. Only if you want to play games like crysis on the highest settings and 100+ fps. Then you also need a better cpu anyway :D

Nubby-_-21/06/2008 00:46

+1 raver

Aly00721/06/2008 01:23

lol nubby
ndR i think you should make a user on a forum with experts and start a thread where tell to them what budget you have and request an complete config for your PC.
Anyway IMO first config it's better but the ram frequency sux...533mhz i think it's bad.
If you want consult some review about what do you wanna buy

Fact or Fiction21/06/2008 01:30(edited 21/06/2008 01:31)

definitely first.

i have 6850 and i can tell u take a quad. u will be faster in future where games support quad. and this sli option isnt thaaat great as well.

Mr.Jumper21/06/2008 01:49(edited 21/06/2008 01:50)

I dont think, that you can record demos with any of those configs... haha :P

but if I would have the choice, I would take the first cfg! It is expensive, but if you want to spend much money, just search for alienware and you can buy the best computer, which is on the market.

My advice is this :
Core2Duo E8400 ( 3Ghz stock )
2048 Mo DDR2 at least 800 Mhz
8800 GT 512 DDR3/256 .
Much better then the configs listed above , more overcloakable and very stable.

LimadO21/06/2008 07:28

i choose 1st one but i change the video card for a 8800GT or 8800GTS (G92 both), the last one is better.
8600 sux

ndR moviemaker Tournament #221/06/2008 10:01

The config 1 is less expansive than the second one btw :P
300€ less

Aly00721/06/2008 13:34

ye cuz in second config you have 2x GF but how ppl said if you have some money change GeForce 8600 GTS 256 Mo with some 8800GT and also u need to change those ram frequently.

Fire21/06/2008 13:35

Hey Bud, Take config one. Quad core will get u pumping and that video card can handle every game either way. No point in having two video cards unless your getting into game development its self.

Same, its exactly what I have. I get 45 fps average on Crysis very high @ 1024. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=8675326&WishListTitle=lolwut3

ndr It looks like you're buying a pre-built pc, if you build one yourself you can save ALOT of money. My shit costed $550 usd and if I bought it at a retail store it would easily be over $900.

btw SLIing that shitty 8600GT is pointless.

Dragon21/06/2008 15:38

8600 sux hard, worst prize / performance ratio.. pick 8800

Quad Core and 8600 GS?!
U must be joking.

i have no idea what games you want to play , but here`s a small comparison of 8600 in SLI vs 8800 GT :

8800 GT :
8800GT:
Model

The bolded items are what make the difference in high-end games theesedays.
8600 in SLI has a total of 72 pixel processors , but the 8800GT has a total of 112 pixel processors.
Not to mention the 1.2 or 1.3 ns memory chips used on the 8600 GT ( Quimonda) versus the 1 ns memory chips used on the 8800 GT ( Samsung ).
Hope this helps :)

Thanks for your advices!

Q6600 and E6850 are pretty old processors, you should buy Q9300/Q9450 or E8400. (Q9300 and E8400 cost as much as Q6600 and E6850 or even less.)

I was going to say the same as Fatalis!

..
Not really. but listen to him, he knows this stuff ;)
