textures-halflife.wad

OK i configured everything in valve hammer, now i put in textures halflife.wad from my c disk, and when i do that and i hit new to make a map a message is coming up saying, No textures are available for use with that game. You must set them up in the textures tab of the options dialog box befor you can edit maps for this game. Now can someone please help me of what to do? I really wanna make a map with my friend but this message wont let me get threw to do anything.
