resgen / notepad

Hi, i searched around in the forums here on XJ and found alot about .res files. But many people seems to think that resgen is very bad, and i find out that many people make theire own .res in notpad, wordpad, MSWord etc , But i couldnt find anything in the forums about what to wright in lets say notepad..
So my question to all out there is: What do i need to include when i make a own .res file, i would be very happy if someone could say exactly everything i need to wright about my map in notepad.

Just use ResGen, and then remove the .wad lines
