Sup everyone, im about to buy a new piece of metal :> but im not very expirienced in hardwares, so i want to ask you to post your thoughts about config that ive chosen. here we go:

MB: MSI n750i - http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&prod_no=1459
CPU: Core2Duo E8600 - http://processorfinder.intel.com/details.aspx?sSpec=SLB9L
RAM: Kingston 1GB DDRII x4 - http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KVR800D2N5K2_2G.pdf
VGA: GF 9800 GTX+ - http://www.xfxforce.com/en-gb/products/graphiccards/9series/9800GTX+.aspx
HDD: Seagate 750 Gb - http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=52cfc27bebb43110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD&locale=en-US
CPU Cooler: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/AirCooling/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2499&ProductName=Volar
Case: Giga-byte Poseidon 310 - http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Chassis/Products_Spec.aspx?ProductID=2677
PSU: Enlight ATX 650W

so what do u think about it? :>

TinTin21/10/2008 10:16(edited 21/10/2008 10:17)

it will work together. how well i dont know :P

i would have bought gtx 260 with 896mb onboard memory. (costs about the same)
650W is not necessary for this setup, allthough if you are planning to buy another graphics card later on (in a sli configuration) it will/might just hold.
If you're not planning to do that a 450W psu will be plenty of power.

(i just saved you some cash! :O )

thanks for your opinion TinTin :> and i do planning to buy additional vga later, but what do u think about motherboard? mbs are my weak spot :<

MSI sux at motherboards try asus/gigabyte.
No need to make a SLI with those 2 graphic card its really ok. :P

Considered I dont know your budget, i'll just list some random ones

-Asus Rampage Formula (intel x48 chipset, ddr2, socket 775)
Downside: No SLI support.
Upside: Good for (future) upgrades, good for overclocking, ok price, supports crossfire.

-EVGA nForce-790i Ultra SLI (nforce790i chipset, ddr3, socket 775)
Downside: High price
Upside: Stable overclocks and general system performance (that i've heard of), SLI support, great for future upgrades.
Note DDR3 sdram!

Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 (intel x48 chipset, ddr2, socket 775)
Downside: ?
Upside: Ok price
This one has very similar specs as Rampage Formula, and is alittle cheaper. I would still go for an Asus instead of a Gigabyte though.
(No experience with the Award BIOS)

If you are going to use an intel processor, you will get most efficiency from your system if you buy a mobo that has an intel chipset (same manufacturer). If you insist on SLI, you wont get an intel chipset ;)

Also I would suggest you to consider running a 64 bit os and buy 2gb memory chips instead of 1gb. (8gb max on all of these mobos). I've experienced alot higher system performance and stability after changing from xp pro x86 (32bit) to xp pro x64. (Yes I tried both x86 & x64 with the same components specs including ram)

If you are going to run a 32 bit os, you dont need to buy 4gb of ram. As the system can only use 3 of them.

Note: With 8gb ram there is no reason not to choose vista. ;P

U gonna buy a new pc for cs/kz or other things?

deus?21/10/2008 12:16

ofc for other things :>

cC|Stewie!21/10/2008 17:12

what OS u gonna get?

deus?21/10/2008 19:06(edited 21/10/2008 19:10)

xp.

ok, ive decided to take almost same config, but with GF 260GTX, a bit different cooler and with 2 planks of ram kingston 2gb 800mhz 6cl. hope 650w psu will be enough for this config :>

In terms of MB I'd go for the old P35 chipset. E8600 is ridiculously overpriced, go for E8400. And anyway it's the GPU that's the bottleneck in modern pcs. 650W power is too much, good quality 450W PSU is plenty even for 2 GPUs. For case I recommend Antec solo and your cpu cooler raises eyebrow in me. There are many better ones, try Noctua or Xigmatek for example. For GPU i'd pick HD4850, best price/value.

Sorry for the wall of text, hope you didn't already order your pc. The bottom line is no matter what pc you buy in 2 years they are about as shit when compared to the contemporary pc. So always look for the best price/value and never invest for the future.

I'd go for Intel Q9450 processor, ATI HD 4870 and 2x 2gt memory sticks + Vista 64bit.

Don't know anything about motherboards atm though, I'm using Abit IP35 with E8400 on my pc.

Buy me some new stuff too, rich.

q9450 is a waste these days. buy q9550 instead, same price (as far as i remember), higher core speeds. ofc you could just overclock the 9450 to be a 9550, but you can get higher with the 9550 if you demand ghz! :P
anyway, i thought intel stopped producing the 9450's?

deus?22/10/2008 21:19

ok, ive ordered this stuff:
MB: GA-EP45-DS5
CPU: E8500
RAM: 2x 2gb 800mhz 6cl
VGA: XFX GF260GTX
HDD: same
Cooler: G-Power 2 Pro
Case: Gigabyte Poseidon 310
PSU: Gigabyte Odin GT 550W
hope i can test crysis tomorrow :>
thanks for replies!

You're probably right, the last time I was interested about all the components was about 6 months ago when I bought my pc. :)
