CS 1.6 update with consequences for your demo collection.

As some of you might have noticed Valve has been running a beta for an update version of CS 1.6, what exactly the new features will be we are not yet aware of, we however do believe it includes more community features, and an attempt to eliminate silent running using duck jump, but the most notable change, and the reason for this heads up is that the protocol of CS will be changed from 47 to 48.

Most of you probably have no idea why this protocol change matters, but it means that ALL old demos will stop working, yes that is right, all 4500 demos in the HLTV.org demosection, all the demos you have saved over the past years, they will not play. So make sure to get those movies made as soon as possible, rumors has it the update will be released sometime this week.

We have been trying to find a way to make old demos work in the new version, but until now we have not been able to get anywhere. We will keep at it, but it is doubtful they will ever work in the new version.

The good news are that we have been working closely with Valve to make sure HLTV smoothly made the transition to the new version, and from our last tests HLTV should work just as before when the new update goes live.

Is there gonna be any more bug fixes?
Numbs plugins will be useless if they do :(

NumB22/10/2008 17:07(edited 22/10/2008 17:09)

Actually the doubleduck itself won't be removed as I know (so I won't have 2 worry about my bug fix plugins - VALVe is too stupid to fix them even if having sources how public made it...) - changes in this part are: at landing after doubleduck you hear a landing sound (as if after jumping off).

I would really like to see news like "503 new demos". :D

everest22/10/2008 19:28

Yes Numb about silentrun you are right, because it stays only added sound. Only bad thing for us as Kreedzors is changing the protocol.

That sucks >_<

I'll pray for not releasing this update. That will be very black moment in KZ. :/

BooLiSH22/10/2008 22:54

If this will really happen as you say that will be a "change" for sure... *curious*

VALVE + IQ = ZERO!

lonewolf VIP22/10/2008 23:28

omg, Its is something like:

- no more old demos
- no more Count Jump?

leggie22/10/2008 23:30

but numb, sometimes when you jump its silent....so would it be the same or not?

But I think that u can use non-steam to watch old demos after this update if Im not mistaken. (I hope I'm right)

But it feels like someone might _H4XX_ the demo shiet after the update.
How now ure gonna do that xD

everest23/10/2008 04:00

HLTV.org figured out that its easy too convert demos. So we have to wait and gonna see what they've got.

Yes - if you'll doubleduck and land while being in duck condition than it's silent.

About VALVe IQ we all can agree. And yes - non-steam isn't update by steam cuz it's running w/o steam (w/o direct VALVe support) so it won't be automatically update - to update non-steam you have to find special patch out there in the wild internet.

// edit:

It's also a bug problem for XJ admins. And not only cuz they have to figure out something with wr list but also that fps-death probably will need update also (so in first time there is a big possibility that after that update no demos will be accepted cuz anti-cheat probably will be 'broken')!

JAy23/10/2008 06:56

u can still play demos, you just have to use playdemo and NOT viewdemo

NumB23/10/2008 07:24

This nick change is driving me nuts... Why they just didn't block the "name" command!? And why on earth if they made a copy-string if from where it's copied supports all chars and to where it's copied supports only 256 chars... (string = text in coding/scripting language).

Anyway what I'm trying 2 say is: VAVLVe did it again... It's almost like updating from cs1.5 to cs1.6... Only this time not so bad as before and a bit more stupid update...
