Different techniques' efficiency
These days I have been surprised over how techniques that seem weaker, is in fact more efficient on some jumps. I have some examples:
#1. The trickjump on hns_assault_test, which was totally uber with drop-cj, so I was 100% sure it wasn't possible with bhop-lj which only makes you jump about 248 units max, while dropcj is around 275 units. Still qewi totally owned the jump with bhop lj.
#2. The shortcut posted on kzro_darkfury. It was really hard and gay with drop-cj. Then iiN comes in and makes it with LJ.
#3. The bhop LJ on Piranesi from BLT's movie, he told me it was really hard, so I went to try it. I only tried it a little with bhop lj, then I started trying with CJ, and I failed it with 260 stats.
#4. You also have the jump on awp_rooftops, from t-spawn to redroof, I would never have thought it was possible with bhop, but zyllEE did it 3x.
I'm just confused. How does this shit work, and how can you determine what technique works best on a jump?
=)
Edit: BTW, I think if someone else had written this, I would have hated them :P I used so many "big" words, sounds stupid.
With bhop you can get 299 pre easily, but it doesn't take you as high as cj. However, in jumps where you jump from a high level to a lower level, bhop might be better.
How does that work, I really wonder.
EDIT //
@ tjeah: So what? I never said it was impossible, just hard.
Here's my demo, I did it in less than 10 mins :/

EDIT again.. Actually went to check my uptime, it was about 4 mins. And I used 1-2 mins to find the jump again. So pwnd!

Ye that was really amazing... I thought that this jump is possible only with dropcj + scout till he did this with bhop and knife ;) He really amaze me with this :D
//Sorry but my english is horrible :P

ohai! like i said in the thread about that hns_assault_test jump its all about speed when its that big height difference ;P the stats doesnt really count that much, only the maxspeed in that case since you need to make all the strafes after that point where you get stats just as good. and on jumps with the same height you gotta make smaller and smaller strafes, the last strafes dont look like the first ones, so if you get a good length on the jumps it could just be bad on some jumps.
much text in a weird order but i hope you can read it anyway lol ;PP
and iiN uses slowmo or he got the weirdest jumpstyle ever Oo so that darkfury sc aint too hard for him.
oh i just saw blt's movie and he hit the surf a little, didnt he? ;-)

Yea, that's what I tried to say. When there's such big height difference, just the prestrafe/maxspeed matters.
word to flibo, industry sc from the silo is way easier with bhop than cj.
Some time ago I saw tjubby posted a comment on a new jump with a big height difference. It was something like: "you need speed don't cj it, bhop it." He was always one of the best bhop trickjumpers so reading it made me think about it. I do like bhop trickjumping as well and when I was geeking that excavation sc with awp I noticed that it took me almost the same amount of tries to get it with cj and lj, but with bhop took me 4-5 tries. I thought wtf I must be a really bad cjer but now I see Flibo's point and can't disagree with it. Maybe an explanation from someone that knows the HL engine a bit more?

I don't think it's that hard to understand? You're going longer by the whole time with bhop since you get higher speed, but while jumping on blocks with the same height the highspeed doesnt have the time to matter. Ah it's kinda hard for me to explain =PP and about the thing i said that the distance really doesnt matter is since if you're making the same strafes all the way through a lj/cj or anything you wont get very good stats, but since youre going to continue strafing that's the way you should do. I hope someone understood half of what i wrote ^_^
It's not any tricky bug or anything its just plain physics :). Its like qewi said, if you dont understand it to bad for you xD.
Talking about physics isn't the most appropriate way to explain a matter of virtual engine... I'm not really aware of the HL engine that's why I'm not jumping on conclusions. Also cj gives you longer time in air and bigger jump height isn't that right? So that increase in the air-time allows you to perform some extra strafes until the landing point. I guess the extra speed you gain with a bhop matters a lot more than cj's additional height. Anyways as I said I don't really know much about HL engine so it might be much more complicated.

It's not complicated.
Bhop has good sides and bad sides. Good side is that you can nearly always get 299 pre. Bad thing is that it doesn't take you as high as cj. You just have to choose between ~285 pre of cj and normal height VS. 299 pre of bhop and less height. Sometimes speed is better :/
Man I suck at explaining too :D
Maybe I can explain. In jumps with no height difference it's better to use cj because you have much more time to strafe. But in jumps with very big height difference cj isn't as effective as bhop because the extra strafing time would be less. Simply because you fall to the ground much faster than in normal jump with no height difference.
i understand now

Ahhh, now I understand, thx! :D
#1. when u do a "drop bhop-lj" u have bigger height than normal bhop-lj (and If u drop from a enough high place u can have 45 height(as a normal cj/lj))
#2. I don't know why it shouldn't be possible if the max height that some1 can jump is 63 (45 noduck + 18units with duck = 63 height).. u can check the different technique WR with 63 height by dividing the LJ/HJ/CJ/MCJ rec on 2, +u have 16 units less height difference bonus on that jump
#3. EDIT: Oh.. I saw it same as #4 +I guess u fuck'd up a little your strafes after your 260 stats displayed :)
#4. People can do the "perfect strafes" in 0.732 sec but its harder when u have ~2 seconds time for strafing cuz their hands can't handle to do 2+seconds "good multistrafing".. so its easier when u just do a bhop (299 pre, but less height - less time) so its something like CJ with less height.. and this is the easiest way that humans can pwn these kind of jumps if they can't handle the "full strafing"
