Fraps fails most of the time on me, and startmovie just annoys me.

What are some better FPS video capturers?

I've heard of HLAE but I have no idea what to do with it, I can load CS fine into it, play the demo but what to do from there?

I'm rather interested in trying to make some CS vids from some demos I have :D

afaik u cant capture videos with HLAE. HLAE is just for making normal demos to HLTV, matte effects and stuff. It's technically a hack, so run steam in offline mode when u launch it.

There is no good way execpt for startmovie. i Don't see how it annoys you so much, u just find the place in demo and press a button u have binded to startmovie, lol it takes so much hours?

There ARE ways to get very good quality with fraps, kaffee showed it once, but i don't remember how.

GL finding out if u hate <3startmovie<3

hmm, alright.

now what's the best way to putting all the bmp files together so that they'll actually playback in a real-time sequence?

VirtualDubModis the best program for gathering bmp files to .avi.

1. Record with 90fps in game. (bind "f3" "startmovie clip 90" bind "f4" "endmovie")
2. Render with virtualdub. (File/Save as...)
3. Put your clip on vegas and set playpack rate (mouse2click clip/properties) to 3.000.

st0ka24/12/2008 13:32

Don't forget to change your frame rate in VDub to 90 (Video>Frame Rate...)

raver mapper24/12/2008 13:34

Here are some commands that you can use with Half-Life Advanced Effects (HLAE).

*mirv_movie_fps 90
-- Your movie fps to capture, 90 is a example

*mirv_movie_filename "c:/movies/owned/clip"
-- The path where you put the captured pictures (.tga files)
-- The path I gave is a example

*mirv_movie_export_sound
-- With this enabled you can export your frame pictures
-- and a sound file at the same time. With this your video and
-- sound file are perfectly synced. Also it doesnt lose sound quality.

*mirv_recordmovie_start
-- With this command you can start the frame capture

*mirv_recordmovie_stop
-- With this command you can stop the frame capture

Now some binds I use:
bind "key" "mirv_recordmovie_start; dem_pause 0"
bind "key" "mirv_recordmovie_stop; dem_pause 1"

With those binds you can record a clean video file without deleting the pictures you captured with the console and stuff. I dont like to delete those pictures all the time!

So now you got a shitload of .tga's in your /owned/ folder called clip_xx_all_xxxxxx.tga. What you need to do now is download VirtualDub and open only the first tga file (clip_00_all_00001.tga). Now its gonna load all the pictures with the name "clip_00....". So he doesnt load the "clip_01...".

At this point you can render your files to a video file. Im not gonna explain this because its very easy to understand howto render it to a video file. Just use your brains my son.

Also another note, you can record allot of tga files inside of cs. The tga formation will be like this
clip_00_all_00001.tga
clip_01_all_00001.tga
clip_02_all_00001.tga
clip_03_all_00001.tga
clip_04_all_00001.tga
clip_05_all_00001.tga
clip_06_all_00001.tga
...

You got 6 scenes captured now. you can load them one by one into virtualdub mod. Save it AND PRESS THE "Don't run this job now; add it to job control so I can run it in batch mode". If you got all 6 scenes saved like that, press F4. Then the jobcontrol will popup, now you can press start and you just need to wait until it stopped rendering.

Hf, I dont answer questions :)

alfred it's not for making a demo into HLTV.
It doesnt convert ure demo in any way and u can use the "dem_forcehltv 1"
in the "normal" hl.exe also!

@ raver. That's how I do it, and frame rate 90 in virtualdub.

Though I use startmovie 200 ! gl hf :D

Oh and ye about this:

Thats bullshit, no offence alfred. But you dont need to turn to offline mode when your useing HLAE or any other hack.

owned25/12/2008 01:03

Is HLAE an actual 'hack' that can endanger an account?

I'll try what you posted above raver, I recorded one of my videos with like 99 fps, so when I put it into vdub, 99 frame rate as well?

That's not bullshit. It's not a hack when u run it in window mode, but when u launch it fullscreen it is. It safe when u only watch demos with it, but as soon you connect to a VAC-secured server to record, then u get detected. Even your own LAN server is VAC-secured as default, so if you want to record, then create LAN-server and turn VAC of(i don't remember how to do that, google ftw)

First thing you need to know that you cant get banned if your not on a vac connected server. So there is no need to go to offline mode (what never works and if it does its buggy as hell) when you use/start HLAE. Then a second thing you need to know that when you start a LAN server on a default counterstrike instalation (fresh and clean) VAC isnt connected to your server. By default the CVAR "secure" is on 0 (zero).
Then a third thing, HLAE gives a WARNING message if you connect to a server via internet. When you press oke, HLAE is not responsible for any bans after that.
