Gaining speed?

I've watched dozen (older) demos and noticed that even with simple jumps jumpers gain a lot more speed than me in almost all jumps. They have over 50 and 60 gain while my max is 56 or so on circle strafes from higher ground (like cliffez sc). I've tried everything, circle, linear, long/short, fast/slow, 3 or 7 strafes and while my sync is about 80 or more gain rarely gets over 48, it stays around 42.

My mouse is mx400, win sens 6, game sens 8.

Any suggestions? Don't say geeking vuz I know I am probably doing it the wrong way then.

do big strafes and hold teh keys longer!
