Hello, here's a tutorial about how to make your sound(s) repeat with an optional number of seconds. The multi_manager entity is very handy, and can be used for triggering a lot of other entities, such as lights, doors, etc...

If you want to have a lot of sounds in your map, and you do not necessarily want them to be looped (so you hear them constantly) this is a good way to make them appear somewhat natural in your map.
It is not (to my knowledge) possible to make them appear randomly though. You need to set the time for them in the multi_manager entity, and this is what we're going to try now.

I just recently learned it, and I think it's very useful, probably just old news for mappers who are familiar with the multi_manager entity, though.
Well, lets get started...

First of all, you need something to trigger the multi_manager entity, this could be for example trigger_auto or a brush tied to the trigger_once or trigger_multiple entity.
I have chosen trigger_auto. Create this entity with the entity tool.

In the target field, you enter the name of your multi_manager entity where you are going to fill in the sounds you want to be played. Could be something like "mm_sounds".
Delay before trigger, you can set whatever you want here, but the sounds doesn't have to start exactly when the multi_manager is triggered, so I would leave it on 0.
Set trigger_state to on (or 1 if you're not using the smartedit function).

Now you might want to create your ambient_generic entities in which you fill in properties such as name, sound path, volume, fade, whatever you like. Remember to tick "Not looped" under flags.
Name them after the sound, such as "bird1" if it was a bird sound, so you can remember them when putting them in your multi_manager entity.

We will actually be using 2 multi_manager entities, the first one is triggered by the one where you have your sounds after they all have played, and then immediately after triggering back again, so your sounds (however many you have) will not stop playing after X minutes.
This might not be necessary for cs/de maps, as the round restarts within 9 minutes (highest possible roundtime) anyway, but it is necessary for kz maps.

Ok, create your multi_manager entity, and click the smartedit button. Here you can add the targetname (could be mm_startsound), and the name of your other multi_manager entity with the sounds in. Click "add" and type the name of the other entity (mm_sounds in my case) in the key field, and in the value field you can enter how many seconds you want to pass before it is triggered.

Create your second multi_manager now, and do the same thing with the sound entities names, and when you want them to be played.
Note: If you want the same sound to be played multiple times with x seconds in between, you just make copies of your ambient_generic entity with it, and give the copies different names, such as "bird2", "bird3", etc...

To finish off with, you add the name of your first multi_manager entity to be played last (with the highest value). When all the sounds have played, the whole process is repeated. Your other multi_manager (mm_soundstart) helps them doing so.

I hope I made things clear, and that this tutorial wasn't too long. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. If not me, I'm sure other mappers could answer them.

Have fun mapping!

Nice idea with the mm to use sounds.
There is an option open for a random playing. but that will cost a lot of entity because of the random generator and this won't be good :/ because of the entitylimits

Okay, i know this tutorial is old, but i have something to add to it. In order to make the sounds not loop you have to make sure the .wav files don't have any cue points or else it will loop even though you ticked off "Not Looped/Toggled). So open up Goldwave or any other sound programs and delete them!
