We just had an argument on the server about the difference between slide and surf
So I'm asking here, whats the real difference?
I was always thinking slide is one big ramp to slide down, or some miniramps to just slide from A to B or some consecutive ramps like in kz_brick, and surf is where you need to strafe between the ramps to gain speed, also the reason for AA100?

Slide = 10aa
Surf = 100aa

As far as I know :/

SchlumPF01/05/2009 15:42

slide = 10aa dev0
surf = 100aa dev1

TheCracker01/05/2009 16:43

Yes, thats clear, but the difference between the ramps?

qewi01/05/2009 18:40

That's the difference, ofc they make the maps different so you'll be able to slide with 10aa.

the diffrence is slide maps are designed to do as fast as possible from a to b as you said. Surfing is trickin around and having fun without records... i know a server where people 24/7 play waterrun just doin tricks. On a slide map you cant really do tricks like tubing around a ramp.
I know there are sum speed surf maps but mainely on surfmovies you will see trickjumps.

slide for me is the "diagonal blocks" that cant do surf, but you can "slide".

Ofcourse you will see trickjumps in the movies? There are movies on the wr's to as in kz, like, if you do a movie in kz/surf, you makes a movie with some tricks, not with records 99% of the time...

can somebody please explain to me what "developer_x" does? if you know what i mean. Thanks.

kafds04/05/2009 19:53

developer 0/1 - its considered, well, cheating in longjumping, sliding etc - but in surfing you should have developer 1 and fps_max 131.

developer will boost your fps higher, asd.

Maps:
surf: illegal settings
slide: legal settings

Techniques:
surf: left/right/forward/back
slide: up/down

aa = Air Acceleration.

10aa = Default CS setting, so if you strafe in the air, your not going very far..
100aa = Surf setting, you can go quite far with this... 100x the normal amount.

With dev(eloper) 0 you get max 100fps, with developer 1 you get maximum what your graphic card can give. 100 airaccelerate you can jump more better from the ramp than with 10 airaccelerate.. loll.. I dno, someone explain mo' better.

What? They're no different in techniques, sliding is just more difficult.

Actually, your graphics card doesn't really matter in CS, it's mostly PURE cpu power + it can't use more than a core.

With 100 airaccelerate you don't lose speed when strafing aggressively => that somehow affects your surfing so you don't just fall off when you land on a surf block, and this allows better "jumping" just as Funksta said :P

Higher fps makes you fall slower. I'm not going to go in depth with this bug, but that makes you surf upwards faster and naturally, falling slower in the air thus allowing longer "jumps".

"sliding" is surfing with dumb settings.

its like

sliding - you are doing it wrong.
