That's what I had done when I started my zelda map about the Zora river ^^

16/06/2009 13:20(edited 24/06/2009 00:38)Yes that's true, by using a special plugin it is possible to extract the textures from the game. It's also possible to extract models(not easy).
To demolite: All textures are between 16-64(most are 16x16 or 16x32) which is really low res, but it gives it that authentic oldschool look. I will edit some of the more stretched textures and maybe I'll add detailedtextures.(In zelda they've used a method similiar to r_detailedtextures on the grass texture)
But I need some opinions on making this a 1man map or not.
Pros
- It will be a fun and original map, and more similiar to the zelda style gameplay.
Cons
- Only one person would be able to play the map at once.(public etc)
More fun for recorders perhaps if you make it 1man. But if you want it to become popular you need to make it a "public" map.
I would go for "public" map. Because then both recorders and public players can play it.
But if youre not having a lot of moving stuff or a bunch of buttons then it will be playable on public also.
Never was that in to zelda so i dont know how the original was.
I'm a totally fanboy of Zelda, got all the games for Wii and old nintendo 64, OOT and MM, got trough zelda twilight P for some months ago now :D also ive been waiting for this map quite awhile!

but you can download an emulator and play the old N64 games, start with Zelda Ocarina of Time, the best game ever imo!

naaaah it's just that I've grown up with video games ^^
I got my first game station when I was 2 years old, I must have had ~15 game stations and I got so many good memories with oldschool games.
I was 9 years old when Ocarina of time got released and that game simply shocked me, that's all :)
I still play it times by times btw :D
