SadPuppy and I where talking about how long jumps you can put in a map that isn't a long jump map. We can't seem to come to some kind of "reasonable length" to have in a map. That is a lenght that will give most people a real challange but at the same time a lot of people will reach. So the question to you guys here is:

From a mapping perspective, how far do you guys feel your longjumping skill takes you? That is, could you perhaps message back with an approx range you can do and what you consider easy/normal/hard/extreme and what your personal limit is?

It would be very helpful for us in mapping if you would share your range and what you consider is easy or hard. Perhaps compare to a map or specific jump if you don't know the actual pixel count. Thanks in advance.

Easy 210~225
Normal 225~235
Hard 235~240
Extreme 240~245

You can add in your map all the ljs you wish, but consider that if you gotta jump 4x240 to finish it, nobody is gonna beat it. (yes, i've read it somewhere xD)

My lj rec is 247, but nowadays i can luckily jump 240~243 :)

well, you cant answer that question that easy.

highjumps are harder than normal lj's, so it depends on how high the jumps are and stuff.

read more about highjumps and the gravity "bug".

Imo a good mix is 210(ez)-240(hard for most of the jumpers) normal LJ's and 200(ez)-220(hard) Highjumps.

i agree with faker.
i think kz_ea_highblock fits the map that is not a longjump map but the jumps are bit longer than on a usual map, and most ppl can reach the stoptimer on ea highblock i guess

Hmm... might need to explain a bit more what we where discussing. We have a scale made by Kreedz from the beginning which is:

160-175 Easy
176-191 Normal
192-207 Hard
208--- Extreme

That is if we are buildning a map for not so skilled jumpers it is fair to have jumps up to around 190 but not that much further unless you make it easier by jumping down, and not to many of those longer jumps.

But what is fair to demand from the more experienced jumper? And we are not talking specific lj maps or a map with a lot of lj we are talking about a "normal" map.

What we are trying to find out is if our scale is up to date or if we need to update it? What gives a good challenge for the average jumper? The skilled jumper? Or is the length of less importance and making the jumps a bit tricky more important to make a fun map?

This is your opportunity to tell us what makes a map fun and challenging for you. We got an idea of what we want to make but will you guys like it ;-)

well, I think 210-215 units are good as long as there are no possibilites for prestrafing. With prestrafe maybe 220-230. But hard jumps are much more than these kind of jumps. Small blocks, jumping from low blocks to high blocks.

Anyways, I don't like hard maps. Give me easy maps with lots of bhops and SC's :>

Well, your' asking what makes a map fun for me? Not the callenge, for sure.

Ive jumped all kz_ and all custom_ maps, what made me think "hey, thats a cool map" were new and unused themes, cool textures with something new to discover and tricky jumps (like jumps you need a new technique or to think in a new way to pwn them) - not the challenge (like "hard" = every jump a LJ).

Btw: I think Kreedz's scale is still good working, his latest maps amazon and australia are not xtreme hard, but not easy too.

Lot of beginners and average jumpers cant finish them I guess; same with bighardclimb and stuff.
