Warning: if you hate drum & bass and/or want me to be dead, please at least don't flame in this thread. Write a PM instead :\

It's been a while and with time I got more and more into music DJ'ing / producing.
I know that creating a thread for 10 minutes of sound is "pointless", but...I wanted you guys to rate this short mix, in which i used new (for me) mixing technique. It is made on PC, so ofcourse transistions might sound pretty lame, but oh well i don't have the needed amount of money to buy a serious gear... Just w8 for summer :) The songs are soulful drum&bass style, so I don't think that you'll get bored.

SO:

Artist: adas
Name: 10 minutes of happiness
Style: Drum & Bass / Soulful (NOT LIQUID)
Length: Obvious

Tracklist:
1. Drumsound & Bassline Smith - Fire (Burning)
2. Inhaler - Something About You (J Majik & Wickaman's Extended Mix)
3. DJ Marky & Makoto - Love Again

I'm not a huge fan of this kind of music and particularly not DnB, so I guess my opinion doesn't have much weight. What I just don't understand is that why all of those songs have the same drum pattern all the way? That's so immensely boring that I can't take DnB.

well in this mix the drumpattern was almost the same in everyone of the tunes, but actually there are very different shapes for dnb rythms

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGMymCZltCY that one is slightly untypical for dnb, dont know the exact bpm but its extremly slow for instance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwD1vQ_Gw2A&feature=related that "pattern" got a sweet emphasis on the onbeat.. causes a interesting dynamic, it sounds so fast lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-glW5uBt7k similiar feeling to the c&s tune, tho alot more fragmented beats

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBeKzVhWHY a extrem example, rather drill n bass but its still based on the traditional dnb pattern

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l5hDo3wioU0 interesting rythm variations at a extremly high speed

rrandom examples, but ye.. other kinds of electronical music are just as pattern-limited as dnb i think, either you like it or not. genres that define theirself through a certain rythm always lack diversion longterm ^_^

Flibo, I understand you (I know how it looks/sounds like to you), but the most of drum&bass you hear is liquid funk or something similar. To be honest, the "pattern" which i played here is not my very favourite... As I said in main post, it is more of a tryout of new mixing technique :) . kaffee pretty much showed it, there are loads of other beats. But I'd like to add even some more 'different pattern' examples:

- (drop @ ~2:50) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3ddem37UlU Quiet and "oldschool" feeling... I am actually even unable to assign it to any dnb substyle (though it is).

- (drop @ ~1:25) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITqu2tDfTK0 So simple, but killa on the dancefloor. Can't define substyle of this one either.

- (drop @ ~1:30) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYTPhbYnesQ Darkstep (aka skullstep). The darkest substyle, prefered to listen with drugs or alcohol... Takes about 5(that's alot) minutes after entering the club to start recognizing sounds properly (cause of massive low-frequenciy impact on your ears).

- (drop @ ~0:40) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vtjiqSmqco Minimal. Not much to say, but it's getting popular.

- (drop @ ~1:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCg3bukXyGI Techstep.

--------

!!And one more thing about the "pattern": It's not just drum&bass. EVERY electronic music style has its own pattern on which it is based. Two main reasons why people (imo) like electronic music is:

1. People dance to that music (not much of dance but well it makes you move)
2. It is mixable, so long sets of music can be made (that's why DJ's basically need similar pattern).

Neat, thanks for clearing up.

Some of those links aren't actually that bad :P

Flibo, may I ask you which ones? I am just wondering what rock fans consider "not too bad" from dnb scene :) I got lots of friends who like rock music and I'd like to introduce them to dnb by linking to a track which they would not dislike :)
