well.. i know it sounds like a fairytale but still - why not hold world multiathlon competition..
for example nominations:
1. Climb/Bhop: 4part cup(like it was in tournament)
2. LJ/CJ/DCJ/HJ/BJ live competitions - limited time, the bigger block you take in the lower time - the more points you gain...
3. Mapping - limited time(e.g. a week) - to make map on certain theme - 1st place will be accepted on XJ
about holding - where and when?
where - i think that it shouldnt be only xj problem.. any community, if they have enough motivation and good servers may hold them(by voting ofc, like in real olympics)
when - each 6 months will be perfect(e.g. january and june)

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me, but I think it wouldn't work out that well. Take a look at the longer cups and other competitions out here, the participants lose their interest in the very battle in the long run - the competitions will die out somewhere in the middle.
Some communities with similar contests and similar problems relating the contests have come up with random solutions such as cutting the competition short after noticing the inactivity of the recorders. Its not a bad solution, but its like quitting... but there really aren't other ways to solve it.

Should we bother trying, kafds? Just to have fun at least...
It sounds fun, I think we should give it a try. But the third 'map race' will never work because you never know if the mapper made the map before or after the start date. And kafds is right, people get bored in the middle or somewhere there o.O
I'm not saying yes or no, let's wait and see what happens.
24/03/2010 14:20The first kz-sca tournament was a decent success. Why? Because it had short time intervals and good prizes. That's all there is to it really to make a succesful competition.
It's definitely not a bad idea, I think XJ badly needs tournaments and competitions.
And most definitely in my opinion these competitions shouldn't be mapping, moviemaking or LJ competitions. At least at first the focus should be on the main theme here, KZ overall.
About mapping/movimaking ok, but not lj..
It's very interesting when some person jump 255 LIVE in limited time(e.g. 1 hour).. Months of training etc..
How should it work: for example person jumped xxx block, plugin puts the time from the start, block length and nickname into db, after everything is finished, the plugin/organisator counts points..
And btw there could be different types of cups:
1. Race. Limited time, lower than WR on this map, the further you are then your opponents, the more points you gain.
2. I don't know how to name this type. Again limited time. But the goal is to make better time, so you can go to start if you failed and start again.
And maps types can be different: Climb only, Bhop only, Climb/Bhop, Surf probably..
Different difficulties of maps: Easy, Average, Extreme(for g33ks only).
About prizes: yeah, I think I'm enough in kz to understand that without prizes nobody wanna take part...
In the longjump competion we all know who's probably gonna win like NFS (if he's allowed to join the KzOS), nympho is good as well and etc...my point is, it's not gonna be some rookie but still fun to watch someone do a 254-255 in like 30 minutes just like that :b But I rather watch bhop and climb because then there is moore skilled people :)
well, imo problem is at mapping: one week time ok. but why dont start 1 month earlier and build a super cool map and 1 week only details? -.-

Obviously there would be a specific theme. The only problem is that most people entering the competition will make their maps for nothing OR XJ will accept quite a few maps with exactly same themes.

Movie Making also could be added, as well as kz website making
Very good idea! It'll be very cool if we see something like that.But have in mind that this project requires much work. It won't be easy for XJ staff, because moderating 4/5 categories in one hand and making WR releases in other hand is very exhausting.
And to add, February and August will be more appropriate months, cause in June is Summer and half the community will be on the beach meanwhile the other - participating in the tournament. This means full failure.

Could do like a top3, with the best map getting a kz tag and the two others getting custom tags.
For all other maps, they can still be submitted at natioal communities or cosy or such.
