Question I have asked probably 40 people over the past year but no one can tell me, most of you guys (people I know) have your LAN servers viewable and joinable with sv_lan 0, why can't I do the same and not have to muck around with hamachi and people joining the right IP's etc, cut out the middle man and just set up my server properly so its VIEWABLE and JOINABLE without hamachi.

I know literally nothing about servers, took me a week to get AMX to work on my server so bare with me, is it port forwarding or something similar? can someone PLEASE explain to me how you do it!

Thank you,

Lagster

its because of your internet provider basically, and yeah... all about port forwarding. if i remember right, there was another thread like this, made by chrizzo. i'm gonna try and find it cuz i can't remember if he managed to fix his problem.
meanwhile, you could speak with him about this.

PS: had the same problem too, and i couldn't fix it no matter what i tried... people could join my LAN only with hamachi. things changed after i changed my ISP....

If you have a routher it doesent work to join your server if you dont open the ports nessesary

http://192.168.1.1/

Basic > NAT >Virtual server >
your custom port: 25252 (choose anything you want)

Start port number : 25252
end port number: 25252
Local ip adress: 192.168.1.2
Start port(local): 25252
end port(local): 25252
> Submit

Then create server and type sv_lan 0 it should work i guess, cuz it works for me .

You do realize that not all routhers are built up the same way do you?
Most common is going to 192.168.0.1 though, in your browser.

again moxx that depends. in america at least, linksys is most common and they use 1.1 as the settings "site".

i tried to forward my ports as well but it didn't work, so i'm stuck on hamachi too. i'm also hopeless with networking so idk..

thanks for the help :S although a lot of that ^ seems pretty complicated. I will look into 'port forwarding'

Thanks guys~

http://portforward.com/

Choose your router, then choose the game you want to forward and follow the guide. Easy peasy jappaneasy!
