Hi. I dont know if this is proper section for this, but here it goes.
Im jumping now about 2-3 years and this problem sometimes come up. Maps like drh_bhop_dust2, clintmo_bhopwarehouse, risk_sector, kzlv_vaz_ujo and others sometimes lags like crazy mostly on public jumping servers. PC and drivers is not the problem for sure and I dont have lags anywhere else except these maps. Are there any solutions for this? I have fps config that fits ESL and other leagues mby there are illegal commands to fix lag?

akkord mapper14/04/2010 13:50

same for me, and nobody has given me a proper fix till today. -.- i have an uber pc and it still lags as hell more visual lags then fps lags

Fliborecord holder Tournament #214/04/2010 14:11

Please elaborate! What kind of lag is this? A laggy overall feel (no drops, talking about kz_kzfr_shaktiblock mainly here) or drops or what?

kREWAN14/04/2010 14:51

I get a huge fpsdrop on risk_compund if I'll do it the ''right'' way -.-

remake14/04/2010 14:54

I got strange laggs on those maps too.
Flibo: Yes, something like.. fps pops up from 20 to 60 and then back to 20, and it's kinda hard to move like that. It's not just low fps..

snce14/04/2010 14:55

Same problem here.
I have 100 fps on those maps yet it lags like hell, like if I was playing with less than 10 fps. Never found out what the problem was :$

Seriously, let's get something straight here: lag IS NOT fps drops, lag has nothing to do with your frame rate and should not be mixed in together, so your problem really is high ping or low fps?

EDIT: And btw those are not fps drops you are referring to in example risk_compound, are caused where you look. Imagine you staring at a corner and the turning your head to A SHIT LOAD of textures and other crap, behind the walls etc. You get lower fps then you had staring at the corner.

This problem is easy to detect on AMD processors since they are crappy gaming processors (move your mouse wickedly and stop, it takes a little time for the processor to "load" your current point of view), but my point here is that if you have low fps in some maps it just means the map was poorly made, there's not much you can do about it, except the obvious: better clock speed (cores don't matter cause CS only supports one).

remake14/04/2010 15:12(edited 14/04/2010 15:13)

How should he call that then? He can't call it a lag, ok, he also can't call it low fps because it isn't just low fps.

Gargoyle14/04/2010 15:21

Call it fps lag if you like

deus?14/04/2010 15:29

same here, can't remember what maps now, but sector was lagging as hell and i hated that map too much. fps meter was showing solid 100, but the feeling was as its 30. didn't solved that issue before neither now, was simply avoiding that kind of maps. if there's a solution to this crap, would be wonderfull.

same maps same lags...i guess you have a ATI Graka? (coz i have 1).
The Omega Driver is a god solution 4 that...it will not fix the laggs 100% but itz much better than the CC driver

Why do you suppose AMD processors are bad for gaming in particular? Also higher clock frequency does not guarantee better performance, different processors get different amounts of work made in a single cycle. Basically newer processors need less clock frequency for the same performance than older processors.

More on topic, I have also wondered about this thing. I have 100fps in virtually every map wherever I look (only exception is sn_beachcliff when watching from top to bottom) but I still feel laggy in some maps. Maybe it's just an HL engine feature...

Well I tested risk_sector on LAN server.
Results: http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/113/lagb.png
Latency 12 ms appeared on that stage, but at the start of the map there was 0-1. And little momentary fps drops and even choke 1-3.

My specs:
Pentium 4 HT 3Ghz (oc 3.22Ghz)
GeForce 7600Gs 256mb 128bit (oc core clock 500mhz, memory clock 400mhz)
Ram 1gb
WinXP sp3
NGO video drivers on system32 and cstrike GLDRV

Is it so bad? Noooot!

Surprised this coming from you Flibo since you know alot about computers. Well, it's simply stated in every test, and personal experience that AMD processors are no where near close to Intel's performance when it comes to gaming.

No matter what game it is (processor based like CS or graphix card based like most of the modern games) intel processor has ALWAYS gotten much better results.

AMD processors are good for overclocking etc, but in gaming it truly blows. They are like Mac's of the OS's, good for many things, but not gaming.

Fliborecord holder Tournament #215/04/2010 22:06

Depends on the subject you use to compare Intel and AMD. High end Intels do slap AMD's high end CPUs pretty hard in the face, but if we're talking about price per performance, AMD isn't that shabby. I talked earlier about different work amounts per cycle, that's where AMD is pretty bad at at the moment. In the past they used to have low frequency processors but they were quite powerful, now they have high frequency processors that are quite lacking in power. And quite honestly they're not even that bad for gaming, if we're looking at price ranges, not clock frequencies, AMD processors perform better than Intel's processors. Just look at this: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/phenom2_955/4.htm . i7 920 pretty much owns the Phenom II X4 955, but then again it costs some 100 euro more.

On the other hand Intels overclock very well (well, at least according to my experience), so if you're into that, Intels are definitely great since you get a lot of performance.

Some wise guy said that "AMD is for hippies and poor people". AMD is good for price per performance but if you want great performance you better look somewhere else.

This is going pretty offtopic.
