Valve - lj, bhop, cj invented by them?
I was always wondering if valve invented all these tricks (air strafe, longjump, bunnyhop) while they were creating this game. It's intresting to questioning, if they were programming all these techniques to see, if the players would figure them out or if they are just "bugs" that weren't intentioned by the programmers. For example if you think about the guy "kreedz" who was the first one to create climb maps or the guy "count" who (officially) invented the countjump 3 years ago. Nobody could think about it before and maybe there is still more to invent or figure out. I mean, this game exists for 11 years now and it is still the most popular game in the e-sports and people always invent something new. I don't think that valve could've future-tell all this. Makes me think this game is one of the most intresting games ever :D
What do you think? Did valve invent lj, bhop etc.? What are you opinions? I'd love to hear them.
Greetings
dunno, might be a coincidence
I've always thought at that, I guess they created or added airstrafing (it's in CS:S, too, but It's harder to be done and CS:S appeared before Kreedz, same for Bhop just it's harder to be done).
So, my idea is that prestrafe, strafes and bunnyhops were "invented" by them, but Countjump, no, I think that's just a trick to get bigger prestrafe, you actually lose 10 units of speed when you countjump but you win about maximum 32 with a perfect spin, I always thought at CJ pre like a strafe before jumping, it gains your maxspeed (like for bunnyhopping), but if you multi press the scroll wheel or do it to fast you lose your gain.
EB/JB/D(uck)B are already know as "bugs" because of the name, but I consider them a new window to CS 1.6 understanding.
And yes, there are some techniques that are going to be found soon (or not), even that old famous interview with NumB, the eDark jump category #2, the 18units bug (if i remember well), how about you could jump 18 units more than usual, like 270 LJ and 285 CJ.
But, I guess there are only 2 ways of finding them, geek or understand the engine.
strafing was intentionally put into the hl engine.
i think these tehniques are some kind of bugs. they were found as the game was more and more geeked. it`s also a coincidence since valve didnt knew those things would change something in the cs gameplay regarding airspeedgain(strafes) or groundspeedgain(g-strafes).
there are more bugs such as slidebug, edgebug, jumpbug etc. wich were discovered by geeking them not because valve said "hey we created this kind of tehnique, go and try`it".
in my opinion the jumpbug is the best tehnique ever found in cs.
countjump has been invented by player from Norway - Count as name of this technique says ;P
Strafing was in fact intentionally added to the GoldSrc, but what about "Air Strafing"?
I don't think they wanted it, so do the AXN-ish bhops, which were removed in CS 1.4 (correct me if I'm wrong).
You can consider them as "bugs" yeah.
I think that all of these techniques are bugs and they weren't thought and made on purpose by valve developers. I mean why they should write a code which has a lot to do in game and not announce it. Its a loss of money for game creator.
ndR, I meant airmove.
I consider it all a coincidence, to be honest :-)But without doubt one of the best coincidences of all times :-D

Yes, cs 1.3 was the last version where you could bunny hop like that. It's intresting though, they removed this easy bunny hop but didn't remove other bugs that give you way more unfair advantages.
Strafing was intended. The model jumping up a little when ducking was intended. The rest are random (including multiple airstrafes). Deal with it

Discovered, not invented.
They removed some of the slowdown for bhopping in 1.6 again. Which made it easier to bhop again. So that was intentional for sure, in 1.6.
Other then that à guess they knew that what worked in HL would work in CS also.... since they used the same engine to begin with and they made minor changes for CS.
The HL engine was based on the quake or doom engine if im not wrong, where bhopping, speedrunning and stuff like that was possible. As far as I remember multi air strafing was never possible in HL, doom or quake. So that has to be something found randomly in CS :)
So I think only bhopping and strafe running was intentional.

strong yes !!
It is possible in Quake... It may be hard to believe, but it's free and you can download it here, if you want to check: http://speeddemosarchive.com/quake/. May be a bit off topic though...

i remember a code or something about autobhop in cs 1.4
