This is a guide on how to make bhop blocks. This guide also shows you how to make right yaw's on your bhop map, so you face the right direction after you fail a bhop stage.
Step one:

Make a bhop stage. Using func_door entities for the bhopblocks. (Mine are 64x64 units big)

Like this one i made fast:
http://img294.imageshack.us/f/tutorial1ep.jpg/

By the way the settings i use for the bhop blocks is:
Yaw down
Lip -1
Speed 100 (My experience is that if you use more than 100 the bhop blocks stucks you on them.)
Delay before close: 1

Ok. We got the bhopstage, and now we want to add the teleporter to it.

So we make a big block of aaatrigger all over the bhop stage, like this:
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/7746/tutorial2e.jpg

Ok. The height this is in the bhopstage, defines where you're going to get teleported back. I placed it in the middle of the stage, because i think it's ok, then you have to bhop them.

Ok, now we're gonna tie this aaatrigger block to an entity. First mark it by simply clicking on it and then click ToEntity in the right side of your screen in vhe (atleast as default it is.)

In class you write trigger_teleport. In the tab target, write a name. I'll call it bhop1. (The next stage you call bhop2 ofcourse)
Now it should look like this:
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/3617/tutorial3ei.jpg

Ok, so now we got our aaatrigger block tied to a func_teleport entity with a target in it. Now we're gonna go into the entity tool, and find the entity "info_teleport_destination" or info_target. It doesnt matter its the same steps no matter what. After you've found it place one in the map at the start of your bhopstage.
Your map should now look like this:
http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/8051/tutorial4n.jpg

Now mark the new entity (the purple one on the screenshot), and then rightclick on it and press properties. Then in the name tab write "bhop1", this connects the aaatrigger and the info_bhop_destination, because the target of the aaatrigger (func_teleport) was bhop1, and the info_teleport_destination is named bhop1, so now the aaatrigger teleports to the info_teleport_destination.

It should look like this now:

Ok, only one more thing to do, making the yaw right so you face the right direction in case you fail the bhopstage, making it playable, and not look amateurish.

This is really easy actually.

ok, so this white line on the yaw, defines which direction you face when you get teleported back. At 0 it turns to the right, which means you will face the right wall of my map when you get teleported
Let me explain it with another picture:
http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/5111/tutorial6b.jpg
You will face the direction the red arrow points at (the left wall as i explained before.)

Ok so now we just have to adjust the yaw so it makes me face in front of my bhop stage, and i do this by writing 90 in the yaw.
By the way:
0 yaw = right
90 yaw = Up
180 yaw = left
270 yaw = down

Now the settings should look like theese (maybe another yaw.)

Settings should look like this now: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/2024/tutorial8qy.jpg
And... Voila! You have now made a bhop stage with good yaw, which makes you face the right direction when you fail it.
I hope this tutorial can help people learn how to make bhopstages, and I also hope this will get rid of all the bhop maps with bad yaws.

Here's a rmf on how to do it:

Oh, and if you have any trouble with this guide, feel free to write in this thread and I will try to help you with it :)

thumbs up

Speed 100 (My experience is that if you use more than 100 the bhop blocks stucks you on them.)

This one affects only the speed the block gets down/up.

Tutorial could be a lil shorter too :D but GJ man ;)

yeah... but if the blocks has too much speed, they get weird to jump on.

not quite sure about the blocks downspeed. but yea a to high speed it feels a bit harder then the rest. it could be even some mind fuck up.

Otherwise nicely written daza :)

GJ daza <3
but I would suggest you to add some things like:
1. that info_target is not that good for teleports
2. why to use Lip other than 0 or move bhop block (textures interference "bug", when func_door closes)
3. bhop blocks that move horisontally (Yaw)

dEMolite, its not a mind fuck. Somehow bhop blocks start to move before the actual touch. Not sure if engine predicts the touch or its just because of collision box... but the fact is its happening. Numb discovered that when he was trying to calculate bhop distances in his early ljstats plugin, if I remember right. For func_door's Speed 100 the perfect bhop on it take place ~1 unit under the bhopblock's upper point, for Speed 200 its even more (and if bhops are not perfect you feel it even more too). Also because of this effect - bhops on static surfaces (lj blocks for example) gives ~1 unit longer bhoplj distance. That makes bhoping in public (where bhop blocks dont move) - easier as well.

Make bhops with 200 speed and place trigger_teleport so only 1 unit of bhops tops stays outside the teleport. You will NEVER be able to complete the stage...

will try it with some technics laters this weekend. maybe i can present a testmap to see how other jumpers feels about it :)

how to make bhop blocks go inside the wall?

sn00p mapper25/11/2012 16:54

Use the Yaw option after you've set the entity, make it 0 or 180 depends where you wall where you want the brush inside is. Use the TOP view as reference to get the exact position.
