Taking things further

I've been into KZ for quite a long time now but I seem to have reached a point where I can't progress. I have a few ideas myself as to what is holding me back the most significant I believe being, sensitivity and technique. I was just wondering what other people in this situation have done to take things a step further?

For example, I sometimes get really uncomfortable with my mouse and find that I can't strafe very well. Any insight, tips and ideas will be greatly appreciated. I do kz quite often and watch demos/movies regularly.

Cheers

One thing that I really think helps is a huge mousepad, and just keep practicing. You don't turn pro in a month.

I currently use a SteelSeries QcK+ with an mx518. I've been using the same equipment for years.

My CS background is more 5v5/competitive so I do understand the importance of peripherals. And I know you don't turn pro in a month I'm not naive :D

Cheers though :P

I was in that position for 3-4 months and when I finally started to progress (beating so national recs), I quit KZ :D

To progress, play most maps without CPs (there are abut 1k maps everybody can do without CPs, just being very patient and focused)...

Well there are always stuff you can get better on and thats what i personally think is the beauty of this game, you cant be best at everything.
But first i want to know a little bit more on exactly what you cant progress, is it your bhop, climbing skills or?

My advice is to start doing more then just kz maps, for example my bhop improved so much when i started doing bhoplj, my timing got way better after it. And don't be afraid to try other configs & settings your cs settings might not be the best for kreedzing.

Thanks for the inisght.

That is pretty much what I've been doing. Just taking it 1 map at a time and never using CP's unless I'm experimenting. I can nocheck some of the maps which are considered hard its just finding the consistency and technique to make those difficult jumps every time.

I can see how its difficult to gauge someones ability over a forum but I wouldn't say I'm a noob at KZ; just someone who has reached a reasonable point and wishes to take it further.

Key to progress and take things further is to play only maps that you like and do them with more and more bhop combos and all sc/s tricks on them :)

Play many cups, play on every kind of map in public servers, make national records, never use checkpoints, don't loose your time on Longjumps, they're totally useless unless your goal is to reach the LJ top5.

Ah, and last but not least, play with your friends, you'll never get bored.

Do that constantly and you will have World Records in 2011.

I stop play and after 1 month I am stronger ! =D

I think you should try to make national records or record on cosy , its the best way to practice (IMO ).

suo02/11/2010 15:43

How does the national records work on cosy climbing? I've never tried it before.

-Cheers.

ndR he is from United Kindom I dont think he can record for his country and suortion just visit www.cosy-climbing.net and record unoficial maps -_-

Yeah IMO start recording for cosy-climbing if you want better experience for XJ recording in the future. That's where I started, and it helped me not get nervous at the end of a demo among other things. They have all the "unofficial" map world records there and although they aren't XJ quality (in terms of looks/world record time) - it'll still challenge your skills and would take you to the next level in time.

But if you aren't into recording then do as some of the others said, play cups, play in pubs (XJ servers or PhooGis have decent Top15 times to challenge you) etc.

I think if you want to take one step further, you have to work harder. Just like guys said, play cups, record demos for national community, also think about your goals, what you want to improve etc. GL in the future.

You have to give it everything you got. No more TV, no more parties. if you have 99 wrs you need to play more. Get off the phone; sry, im not available for this year. Now I'm for real, you have reached the right number but you called me at the wrong time. Call me back January 1st. You're about to get busy now.

play maps that you don`t know and give your best shot from the first run. if you manage to beat the map with a good time then you`ll have no problems beating`it again with a reasonable difference. this way you`ll pay more attention to the jumps in the future. also play cups.. it`s a good way to improve your patience while jumping.

Can you give an example of what you mean exactly?

He means a lot of demos on cosy aren't really perfected and can be improved dramatically. On XJ many of the wrs are perfected and have very little mistakes.

There are also many maps on cosy which honestly look terrible, but some look really nice, on XJ it's more based on looks now, and on cosy you basically submit a map and it gets accepted.

Play extreme maps for improving climbing skills.
