How to Train to be a Good jumper?!
Hello Out there! Im Relative new here , just registred today but watched many demos movies and such things.
im really impressed by this jump techniques and how long a jump can be made in CS... i never would thought that!
so now my Problem.. i want to learn it! i dont want to become a pro jumper , but atleast i want to gain some skills so that the nuke jump is nothing for me.. i hope u understand me :)
mostly i want to use these things not on jump maps, no more in normal games... i have to train my movement and jumpings... i even jumped the nuke jump 2 times :/ not more^^
so how to train? please don say now, jump the whole day train my skills, thats to simple... and doesnt works! i tried all the guide movies but cannot handle that strafings , and combine these with the mouse movement
so would be nice if anyone could help me, tell me how to train, what to train first and such things!
better would be if anyone is German and could help me in an PM, but if not that doesnt matter, only my english typing is bad^^
hmm what i first did was learned not to hold w in the air and only crouch just as ur about to land. and then just practise ur strafes and get them timed right and it should be easy from there on :)
I think the most effective way of learning strafing is to play jump maps and release w on every jump, after a little while you will get used to this way of jumping and then you can start trying longjumps and such on. :P
1st you must watch guides 2nd you need training a lot :) and then you are pro :))
he watched the guides, and he asked HOW to train...
:E

Well, but that's the only way that works. And it isn't enough to do that for 1 week ... U need to do it for some months at least.
It doesn't matter how you train (trying the nukejump all day or playing jump maps) but I suggest you to play jumpmaps to get the best success and cause jumping them is fun for sure ;)

Well, what I did was that i played kz_xj_mountez and tried to do the first shortcuts in the map without w. Took some time but then i did it. I did it alot times so i could get used to it. I also played kz_kzfr_rabbithighwayez alot to practise :)
So what im trying to say is try alot, dont use checkpoints, if you fall just start over and dont stop until you got it :P And like people have said above me, strafe on EVERY jump, and when you get good at strafing, try multistrafing on every jump.
gl
geek these maps:

oh people thx a lot all! i start directly my training!!
one thing, perhaps the false forum, but i cannot join the XJ public´s...
everytime get this error:
Mod_LoadBrushModel: models/player/xj1/xj1.mdl has wrong version number (1668496394 should be 30)
any ideas?? i deleted these files so my client can new download them but doesnt work..
sry for not-ontopic-post but so i dont make a stupid new thread :P
Try to download the XJ Model pack:
http://xtreme-jumps.xandor.de/download.php?view.410
I'll tell u the same thing i said 2 skillhack(lazy me;p) :
I would suggest that u start with easier maps, such as kz_xj_mountez, kz_6fd_vulcano, kz_cliffez etc.
About checkpoints, if you're new 2 this i would suggest once again that u use checkpoints just so u get used to all this.. I know it can be alot to handle when u start jumping, but trust me when i say it can take time and it'll probebly take time 2 learn all technigues and stuff like this...and remember, don't get frustrated when u can't make a sertain jump.. Just keep ya head up ;] and do it again till u make it!
GL and keep this in mind, KZ is about funand keep it tat way :)
what i did is this: if your playing on a dedicated server with checkpoints, try to use less and less checkpoints every single time you go through. Over time try to use less checkpoints and eventually drop them all together. If you need to scout that is fine, but try not to scout that much, using a usp/knife is much better in the long run. :P
yepyep as many had said just play kz-maps with patience,
and if u play at dedicated server I suggest DON'T USE CP's at all... u get skilled much faster imo.
I used to play kzfi server many hours a day and there u can get cp only if u finish the map WITHOUT, I think its very good idea and the magic of kz lasts longer with this system. Use cp's only if you are trying some trickjumps, shortcuts etc, but always finish the maps without, it takes time so patience is needed, I hope this helped u. ^^
*EDIT* Forgot to say that don't use scout, don't never get used to it, always play with knife or usp, its harder but, it feels much greater if u finish 'hard' map without scout and cp's. :)

word on NiconeN
btw get the right equipment now and get used to it, like a mouse with high dpi (logitech G5, logitech mx518 n' stuff)
chose a resolution wich doesn't lag and which u feel comfortable with (imo 1280x1024 is very nice, tho i don't play with it so often cuz it lags me at big heights)
then fix ur cfg as u like it adn then just practise practise practise ^^
thanks to all! i played today 2 hours the kz_xj_mountez... not to beat it, more to practise and i have to say anyhow i can make an 1 strafe jump :P okay its not an miracle but i think to learn that releasing of "w" and go chrouch at the end is not easy... lool after that i tried the nuke rock 10 times and ive done it 2 times :P
yeah these are ur first achievments...
ur advantage is that u found this website just when u started playing...
everyone here says not to use scout not to "w-starfe" and not to use cps... thats exectly what i did my first month^^ after i found this community i had to learn everything again. and thats harder imo...
to ndR: hmm i dont think you are right
gigablock is not the best map for a newbie o.O
also he has to w8 a bit with dustbhop i still cant do it until te end...
and to checkpoints.. well i think if ur playing mount ez or cliffez then u should not use them but if u try a hard map later on u can use some... for example if u play a "cave map" where one mistake means the end u can do some until u got better (nightcanyon is an quite easy map)
thats enough from my side :)
good luck Patch

Nice Patch your making progress :) So lets say if you continue playing kz everyday until next Christmas, you will be pretty good :) I've played about a half year (kz) and can do most of the maps but not as many hard ones :/
But I want to give you a little advice: If you stop kz and take a brake for like 1 week or more I think you will find it hard to start playing kz again :) I'm talking from experience :P So my advice don't stop kz and then start again! good luck in the future :)

After 1 geek-week (w00t :P), gigablock or dustbhop (2 geek-weeks) are good.
he will not be able to finish giga it's true, but it's a good practice believe me
okay people a question... i goin to train this maps like ndR said..
kz_xj_mountez,
bkz_goldbhop,
kz_kzse_towerblock,
kz_exn_ezjungle,
kz_kzfr_rabbithighwayez,
kz_ep_gigablock_b01
kz_man_riverside,
kz_kzse_dustbhop,
kz_man_ultrablock,
so what are good times, best times and good newb times for these maps? i beaten kz_xj_mountez in 8:41 and i dont think that this is even good for a newb :P
a good time @ mountez is under 2 minutes , an average time is between 2 and 3 minutes , and above 3 minutes is a bad time imo
8:41 is a really bad time :) but keep practising and maybe ull pwn it better
