Japan
TOKYO — The death toll was expected to top 1,000 after a magnitude 8.9 earthquake slammed Japan's northeast coast Friday afternoon, unleashing a 23-foot tsunami that swept people, boats, cars, buildings and tons of debris miles inland — and prompted a "nuclear emergency."
A second quake struck central Japan along the northwest coast around 4 a.m. local time, causing buildings to sway. There were no immediate reports of deaths or damage from the quake, listed as a 6.6 by the U.S. Geological Survey.
The tsunami reached Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast, where evacuations were ordered but little damage was reported. The Coast Guard was searching for a man swept out to sea in Northern California.
According to Japanese police, 200 to 300 bodies were found in Sendai, the coastal city closest to the epicenter. Dozens of others were confirmed killed elsewhere, with hundreds missing. Hundreds more were injured.
Thoughts go out to all the families, and people living in Japan, Hawaii, U.S. West Coast (if it actually does extreme damage there)
Any thoughts on this catastrophe, pretty fucking horrible.

ger news with live-update: http://www.bild.de/BILD/news/2011/03/11/erdbeben-japan/tsunami-warnung-flutwelle.html - hope they solve the problem with the atomic plant, also this is so f*cking horrible
I say that Japan was the most ready for this shit in the planet. They'll recover in my opinion... just to fix this nuclear central thing. If the earthquake would be in Romania the authorities said that no building from Bucharest would stand after.
If that nuclear plant blows up, we're going to have a second Chernobyl accident.
Sorry DP:
But I just read in my local newspaper that there has been an explosion in that nuclear plant thing.

So fucking horrible, I've seen a video from a helicopter, I just felt terrified when I saw how is the wave smashing a city. :(
I am so terribly sorry for the people who lost their families and friends. :(

Feel sorry for all the people of Japan, aswell as the workers who tried to fix the nuclear power plant, but died to do so. All thoughts go out to all families of Japan.

The explosion raised the radioactivity levels eightfold outside, and a thousand times inside, so the risk is pretty big of an accident occurring. However, let us keep in mind that, in a country that has earthquakes daily, they did know the risks of using that kind of energy there. Yes, we can and should feel sorry for the people living nearby the contaminated area, but we can't go crazy on it, they know what happens when nuclear reactors explode.
Apart from that, it is pretty sad (yet understandable) how nature is punishing the world.
