Can someone just tell me what does each number stand for especially in the squared section (where each strafe is given).

Distance: 250.211395 MaxSpeed: 326.394866 (53.616) PreStrafe: 272.777923 Strafes: 7 Sync: 92
1 10.956 0.000 19.5 100
2 10.628 0.000 12.4 100
3 7.014 0.930 16.6 87
4 8.510 0.000 12.4 100
5 7.513 0.543 16.6 87
6 7.091 0.597 11.0 87
7 1.901 0.855 11.0 87

So i know what distance, maxspeed, prestrafe, strafes and sync are, but my question is for example if you take the firls line
1 10.956 0.000 19.5 100
1 is first strafe, but what is 10.956 what is 0.000 and what does 19.5 stand for? Also if you are kind enough could you properly explain what goods stats should look like, what those numbers should be, and how can i improve my jumps overall. im sorry I repeated myself but i just want to be clear about my question.
thanks.

10.9xx is the Speed you gained From the 1st Strafe
0.000 is the Speed you lost from the 1st strafe ( Best way is to keep it at 00000 aways)
19.5 the airtime meaning from 100% the 1st strafe takes 19.5% of the jump ...Its important to take note of this line since its one of the most important u need to keep good percenteges in this line and every other strafe from up to down must be smaller and smaller ...(Hope u get it )
the 100 Thing is your SYnc meaning your Total sync in the stat is the sum of all strafes Sync Devided by the number of the strafes

sensa10/04/2011 21:37

yea i get it, so what's the best number for a gain on the first strafe and for airtime for the first strafe (i assume all the following strafes must have lower and lower airtime and gain)

jigsaw10/04/2011 22:13

just look demos from lj top.

MJK10/04/2011 22:20

Yes look at demos and u will see a patern .. all tought there isnt a set value for gain and airtime there are some values that worck better then other .. but i will leave the search to you so u can come up with your own style..Just experiment and u will find the right combination :) GL HF :)

PoshitO11/04/2011 04:04

if you add your initial speed, i mean your pre strafe (272.777923) plus every single of your strafe gains you ll get your max speed (326.394866).

What does the (53,616) means? in MaxSpeed: 326.394866 (53.616)

zyhsure11/04/2011 05:10

the quality of air strafe

means add the 7 times strafe .its almost 53.616 ...:D

MJK11/04/2011 08:43

the (53.616) is the combined speed Of all the strafes ..

jusuuh11/04/2011 19:32

[blockquote]19.5 the airtime meaning from 100% the 1st strafe takes 19.5% of the jump ...Its important to take note of this line since its one of the most important u need to keep good percenteges in this line and every other strafe from up to down must be smaller and smaller ...(Hope u get it ) [/blockquote]

Actually it isn't good to have smaller and smaller airtimes after first strafet. Watch best LJ demos and you can see that it's important to keep strafes in same size as possible.

Let's take an example, 3 strafes in jump, excatly same stats but distance and airstrafe % are different;

First jump for example 245 distance, 3 strafes

Airstrafe %
1. strafe 20
2. strafe 15
3. strafe 6

For excatly same stats but airstrafes like this
1. strafe 13,6
2. strafe 13,6
3. strafe 13,6

it would be like 248-->

I'm not saying you need excatly same strafe stats, but huge or tiny first/second strafe is ruining many jumps :P Really even with bad skills if you can pull out same size of strafes you can get good distances! :)

Roadrunner mapper11/04/2011 20:49

^^your example is quite bad :p.The sum of each strafe airtime has to be 100 ..or not? :D

There are 5 columns.

Column number one:

The strafe's number.

Column number two:

The amount of speed gained from the strafe. To gain more speed from a strafe, make it wider, and sync it better.

Column number three:

The amount of speed lost from the strafe. As long as your strafes are smooth and even, this should be low. This will be very high if you crash into a block or if your mouse spaz's out, or whatever.

Column number four:

The airtime of the strafe, or the amount of time spent on this strafe relative to the total amount of time in the air. The way to maximize distance is to do all of your strafes very quickly, except the very last strafe. The lower airtime you get on every strafe but the last one, the further you go. The lower the strafe number, the more this matters. Getting low airtime on your very first strafe is more important than say, the 4th strafe (in a 5 strafe jump.)

Here are examples from some of my own jumps:

Distance: 254.228240 MaxSpeed: 332.536743 (57.106) PreStrafe: 275.429901 Strafes: 5 Sync: 84
1 10.236 0.000 14.5 72
2 11.781 0.000 15.0 100
3 11.167 0.772 17.8 83
4 12.752 0.000 18.2 100
5 11.168 0.597 32.2 76

Distance: 251.450424 MaxSpeed: 324.557586 (50.802) PreStrafe: 273.755249 Strafes: 4 Sync: 80
1 16.512 0.000 20.8 92
2 13.819 0.127 19.4 92
3 10.424 0.579 23.6 58
4 10.045 0.000 36.1 80

Decent distance for the number of strafes involved, and the key was probably that extra airtime on the last strafe.

Column number five:

The synchronization of this strafe as a percentage, or the amount of time you spent pressing the correct strafe key corresponding to your mouse movement, as a percentage of the total strafe movement.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The key to distance is to strafe faster, not necessarily wider, or to do more strafes. You can get high distance with a small number of strafes, the key is to reduce your airtime. Refer to these screen shots:

http://img17.imageshack.us/i/kzlongjumps20001g.png/
http://img155.imageshack.us/i/kzlongjumps20002a.png/
http://img40.imageshack.us/i/kzlongjumps20003.png/

These are not my jumps, and I take no credit for them - they are just screen shots someone posted here a little while ago and I thought they were instructional, so I saved them.

Notice how the airtime on the strafes of each of these jumps is low except for the last strafe.

Of course, if you can strafe this fast already (under 16 percent airtime per strafe), you can probably do 6 or 7 strafes quite comfortably, and get the same distance or go further. So a smaller number of strafes is always inferior to more strafes, as long as you can do them quickly and correctly.

So the lesson is - practice, and learn to strafe faster and faster while maintaining control.

This REALLY REALLY help me a lot to understand how everything works, thank you very much! Im going to geek 250 block now

sensa12/04/2011 03:01(edited 12/04/2011 03:38)

yea thanks everyone especially Cow, jusuuh and MJK. you all seem to have different opinions though, my guess is it DOES depend on style and person's views.

but let's put it this way, the following is the current WR

Distance: 257.737121 MaxSpeed: 340.034454 (63.696) PreStrafe: 276.337585 Strafes: 8 Sync: 85
1 10.170 0.000 12.3 87
2 11.861 0.426 15.0 90
3 9.372 1.002 13.6 88
4 9.497 0.148 12.3 88
5 9.466 0.481 15.0 90
6 7.322 0.000 12.3 100
7 5.402 0.000 10.9 87
8 0.604 0.149 8.2 33

sooo what makes THIS so perfect? last strafe airtime is least even the second to last strafe has small AT. sync isnt all that good 1st strafe has more gain than 2nd even when you calculate the loss. I DONT GET IT :D only good thing is most strafes are <15 airtime, but that is because of the 8 strafes.

MJK12/04/2011 21:01

Well if u look at the demos u will se that they are close to eaven but still every other strafe is smaller atleast by 0.1 i was thinking that you must not have strafes with air time 20-19-14-15-16-14 ...

CowOnCrack13/04/2011 01:15(edited 13/04/2011 01:22)

Well, you should know that is always a bit random to some degree, and stats don't always correlate 100 percent with distance.

But as for that jump? Let's break it down:

Distance: 257.737121 MaxSpeed: 340.034454 (63.696) PreStrafe: 276.337585 Strafes: 8 Sync: 85
1 10.170 0.000 12.3 87
2 11.861 0.426 15.0 90
3 9.372 1.002 13.6 88
4 9.497 0.148 12.3 88
5 9.466 0.481 15.0 90
6 7.322 0.000 12.3 100
7 5.402 0.000 10.9 87
8 0.604 0.149 8.2 33

1) Extremely low airtime on the first strafe. 12% or thereabouts with 10 gain is almost perfect.

2) EIGHT total strafes - probably the most a human can do while controlling them. Remember how I said that more strafes is always better, even considering airtime. It doesn't matter that his last strafe is 8.2% airtime because just fitting it in gives him quite a bonus over if he had just done 7 strafes with, say, 19.3 airtime on the last one. Eight strafes is extremely hard to perform, and it is also pretty much a prerequisite for 257+ distance. The only other 257+ distance in a world record is cr0ucher's 244 HJ block, where he also did eight with an amazing 2 gain on his eighth strafe. That is truly monster.

3) 276+ pre. Absolutely huge. Getting 276.x pre often gives you a bonus of one unit or more above what you would normally get.

4) 340 ms is pretty uber gain, and right around the place where MS and Distance are balanced. The best LJ'ers can often get more MS, but usually it doesn't get them more distance because wider strafes will eventually "suck away" from your distance because you are moving side to side too much. The ideal width to aim for is around 7-10 gain for the first 5-6 strafes and around 3-5 for the rest.

And the rest is just luck.

You will see a good deal of variety among the top jumps. For example go check out heat's 256 block and he does the style I was talking about earlier - he does 7 super fast strafes with 32 percent airtime on the last strafe and manages to get a 256 block with only like 332 MS. Other players do very even robo strafes - go look at cr0ucher. Some people are really wild and uncontrolled but get the job done like spader.

But if you see enough of these jumps you'll recognize there are patterns that they share in common.

jusuuh15/04/2011 12:53

Somebody said, shouldn't airstrafe % be overall 100. No, because you don't just strafe 100% of the time :-) You need some time after jumping and when you start ducking..

About these good jumps, like in freetylers 257; the basic thing is that he can handle airtimes well. We shouldn't care about 8th strafe, it's just tiny tap when he ducked.. The most important thing is that you can have about the same airtimes in whole jump. We can see that strafes 1-7 have 7-11 airtime. Not perfect, but almost. If he could make those last 2 strafes as good as the first seven, stats would be over 258..

All combined with pretty lovely sync (must remember he gains a lot) and perfect prestrafe.

Practise, practise, practise :-)
