Soo this is my entry for the kreedzcompv1. Hope you like it, I love the colors I made and am satisfied with them, dunno about you. Feedback if you can =]
Amazing! Loved the way you synced the song with all your effects and that rain clip was just over the top!
amazing atmosphere and amazing colors too :D you have a big chance to win in my oppinion ^^ :P
didnt like this one, but keep it up. basicly it was just too much everywhere, a little less sync, a ltitle less flackering, not that strong overlays everywhere.... the rain stuff was a good intention, the sound was fitting well but visual it was rather bad. especially when u showed it the 2nd time

Well the footage was quite longer, I tried cutting the rain with the sync, so that it would look more normal, than if the camera moves faster and the rain falls down with the same velocity. I may have overdid it a little, but hey - I like it >P
And yes, I'll do a funky edit with no such colors and on a chilled song.

Sync Nubz Nr 2 :DDDD
video montage fits perfect regarding to this music, tricks were sick also

compositing with such a fx is a little more complicated than adjusting the lenghth & velocity. the main thing was: the rain is moving together with the camrotations which doesnt make any sense, and in the end the cs scene fades out and you can clearly take a look at this overlay, which is quite ugly indeed. generally it doesnt make too much sense in this perspective: the fat drops and the overlay impliments the floor is like 200 units away, while in your cam its like 2000 units or whatever, no proportion. generally using premade overlays by some random guys is never a good choice, people will find this and use it again in a even worse way and you will die from shame i guess. shouldnt be that hard to make a own rain overlay that actually fits this scene.
you shouldnt include such fx if the outcome is looking that bad, rather just make a normal cam

was that some kinda ironic statement or? cut the funky-no-colour-bullshit, i didnt advice you to copy another style, just use your aesthetics and try to improve your stuff by not putting tons of bad made fx over it and syncing every obvious little duck or jump with flashes on a beat. dont you have some sort of own style you can work on? some intention whats special about you as a moviemaker, different from the 500 other guys doing kz clips in 2011? i'm a sad kaffee now, thats not how kz moviemaking used to be
@ k a f f e e, you're making no sence now.
1. About the layer: It was ment to be seen in the ending scene (syncing). Moreover, since you can obviously see the drops themselvs, it's more than obvious that the rain is not falling down with a normal speed. Considering the rain that was seen in the jump itself, it's obvious than in both 3rd person cameras the rain is falling down slower, neither "200" nor "2000" units "or what ever". I said where this footage is from, so people won't have to search their asses off for it. I doubt anyone would use it though. True, the camera rotation was not followed by the rain, but I had enough magour problems with rending, that to be honest - that was the least of my problem. But in the end, I wanted rain and the footage seemed good enough...
2. I haven't coppied anybody's style, neither I plan on doing so, hence all you're accussation statements are pointless. Nothing about the the "funky edit" statement is ironic, for I really plan on doing so, and not in a way that everybody else is editting. You're speaking overhead and judging something you haven't even seen.
3. Like I said in a comment, the way I edited the song is simply the way I felt. And I felt that normal colors would look silly on such fast cuts, as much as I felt that simply cutting through with the song without an effect won't contribute for the effect I was trying to recreate.
In the end, some people like it and some people don't. I have no idea why you feel so touched, that you have to report everything you've felt or seen. If it is to help me improve my work, thank you, but do it in a less offending way... try adding an emoticone or smth. What you've felt unnecessary, I've felt necessary. And I do have my own edit style, in a both relaxing and dence version, so I have no idea why you're bringing up the changement of kz moviemaking here. Sorry for making you feel sorry.
Peace
P.P: And as a moviemaker, you should know yourself how hard and how much time a moviemaker spends on syncing, so saying "less syncing" is like saying "less work" and instead of giving me credits for ripping my ass off, trying as hard as I can to sync everything, you're throwing my efforts to the bin... Dohh :D (And it's a lot of work!)
it's always up to you as a moviemaker which sorta fx you use ect. since thats a forum and u even asked for it im dropping some feedback, mainly to see you improve soemthing so i can enjoy future movies you might release.
i'm sorry you feel offended, but i am indeed a moviemaker that knows how much effort videos can take, and i'd guess this clip on max. 1 day editing, and i guess people didnt even betatest it. if you're a beginner it can take longer ofc but thats srsly no effort that makes me feel like i gotta be carefull with critism... sorry but the only intention was to give feedback, & indeed emoticons dont rly belong to my writing style, i think its rather hurting to have a critical statement and a ;) - smiley beyond.. thats like making fun of someone lol
1. in this case i explained what was wrong with this rain effect, very lavish and detailed explanation indeed, to show you it is far from anything well made and it's better to keep such things out of a movie as long as it doesnt fit in. but also i said the intention was good, such things can make a movie special and i think it was a great idea in first place
2. i said something you got as "dont overedit" and you answered "yes, I'll do a funky edit with no such colors and on a chilled song" -___________- i mean wtf, that was your reaction or`? it seems like people nowadays only know some massive syncing, fx packed, crazy colourized style and some level2-like-copy thing that is exactly "funky edit with no colours on chilled song", my feedback didnt lead to this 2nd style at all, but you quoted me and answered with this. i just think its strange to do such changes, even stranger to think i would like to see such a typical movie as you explained, but ofc i havnt seen the result yet, you might talk about something completly different you have in mind for a long time...
3. get you on this, i dont wanna categorize once again but thats maybe because your not very experienced in editing yet. it's not the case that so many flackering and flashing fx helps the cut to shine, or that the maximum of syncing is by far the best... dose and accents are playing the biggest role in making a enjoyable video, once again that is very subjective, if you feel like thats not the case continue like this
SeedDownFTW, you should always appreciate some good feedback (if you want to improve that is), as people, generally, prefer to gloss over the "not-so-good" stuff.
I'll try and elaborate on some of kaffe's points. The way I see it, there are two main things that were missing from this movie:
1. Effects blending.
2. Balanced syncing.
If you do not blend your effects properly, they tend to stick out. Instead of enhancing the scene, they draw attention to a particular detail (be it an overlay, a glow or whatever), which takes away from the flow of the movie. How do you know if the effect is blended properly? Well, first you decide on the main focus of a scene. If it's the jump/jumps, everything that distracts the viewer from watching the jumps is, probably, excessive/unnecessary. If the focus is on the effects, then it's no longer a KZ movie because you can put anything in the background. :-D
As for balanced syncing, it really depends on the music. Generally, I prefer to sync only to certain parts of a song and leave the rest alone (or make it very subtle) because it makes the movie less predictable. If everything is dead on in terms of syncing, someone who's already listened to the track or is good at anticipating the flow of a song, will be less entertained by the movie. Whereas, if you put little "surprises" here and there, you'll make the viewer pay attention.
I guess these things come with experience (mostly by editing longer movies), so you should definitely make use of it if someone gives it to you for "free". :-P
Ahh...
Ok guys, both kaffee and st0ka, thanks for the tips. Like I said before, this was simply the way I felt the song. Some parts are indeed overdone, but like I said - this is how I felt it, and that's why I did it. Damn you must think I'm a dry fish, since you're explaining things to me like to a baby... The fact that I recently started moviemaking, doesn't mean I've never watched a movie before and not know when something is bad or good, blends or not. And from personal experience I know that explaining things to someone or not, doesn't change much. It is something that each person individually feels and has a vision on. Something that changes with time. True - I admit, I am a beginner with editing programs and I have issues with effects, I may not be able to recreate exactly what I wish for (what I see in my mind), but I have good enough ideas for clips and movies, so the problem here is the editing itself, which - as st0ka said, comes from experience. But personal experience, for it is a problem in the effects, not the general idea, which at least in my case (and I dare to speak so, for I know what's in my head) has enough experience.
And kaffee, you keep not understanding what I meant with the "funky edit" thing. I did not took your words as "don't overdid", hell man - not at all. From what you're saying I think you're thinking that I've taken your words so deeply, I would plan on changing my editing style to the complete opposite. What I meant was that I am not limited to one editing style and that the fact I just made a hardcore clip on a dubstep song (neither the song is dubstep, nor the editing is hardcore, I'm just giving examples), doesn't mean I can't create anything with a pleasant atmosphere. What I meant was that I have ideas for both "genres" along with completely new ideas for kreedz movies. And what I didn't want of you to do the most is to compare me with "what people nowadays know only".
most moviemakers today put accent on edit more than jumps.
VERY BAD!
Dry fish? Not at all. You don't become a good editor by watching movies, it comes through practice/experience. Good criticism is essential.
My own movies go through an even harsher meat-grinding. If the movie passes my initial criticism, I, usually, send it to someone I trust (people who aren't afraid of criticizing). I'm perfectly satisfied with the work I did on "Flying steps" and "Basics and beyond", but that doesn't mean the movies aren't full of mistakes that I want to avoid in future projects. It's this very awareness that helps me improve my work.
If I wanted to simply bash you, I wouldn't waste time explaining myself. Hope you're aware of that.
Well, I really think this was a bit too much, don't you think? I even had to watch the movie 2 times cause the edit took all my attention and I actually didn't even watch the jumps at all only the light show. So, you should definitely use much more time and brains with your projects, I mean, try to make your movies more edit-wise. I'm No MM so I don't know much about effects etc. but overally this movie included way too much effects and colors 'n' stuff.
Good luck with your upcoming projects I'll looking forward to see 'em :)
I'm well aware. In fact, I think I said "thanks" :D I wish this comment section could go back to the
"unnamed: I like the movie, even though colors still suck"
"unnamed1: Imo I've seen better stuff from you"
etc. I think we squeezed what we could from this conversation and the only thing we're doing is repeating ourselves :D Just to add, so I could clear all misunderstandings: I never said a person becomes a good editor by watching movies. Quoting myself, personal experience is vital to become a good editor and NOBODY can save you this. And once again, as I said, this is directed to the editing itself, not the idea, which originates from the editor and is individual for everybody. And a part of the "effect blending" and "balanced syncing" are included in the idea itself. You can explain them to a person, he can even get them, but that doesn't mean he is capable of doing it, or he wants to do it. With the risk of sounding arrogant (and I do NOT want to sound like that) these are things that I know. Yet the way I imagined the project included flashing lights, rain particles etc. that I not couldn't, but didn't want to remove. And believe me, I have absolutely nothing against a good criticism. Moreover, I'm glad you're giving me one. But you criticized a footage, that wasn't successful and shouldn't be used, whereas I wanted to include something like that, despite the fact I clearly felt the footage did not fit perfectly. You criticized flashes that I felt unnecessary too, but were a part of my original idea which I wanted to follow through to the end. IF I was a more experienced editor, I would have made the effects more pleasant to watch, but I WOULD have left them, not removed them. Ahh, I understand you guys perfectly, I am just not sure I'm making myself clear.
In the end the movie was over-edited. The footage was standing out and some colors weren't fitting perfectly. But I liked it, for it was as close as I could make it, to the idea I had in my head. It was basically overdone from the beginning - in my head. And personally this is my best edit so far.
@Sinzhns it's a movie maker contest to begin with. Though I agree with you.
Originally posted by Cola^I even had to watch the movie 2 times cause the edit took all my attention and I actually didn't even watch the jumps at all only the light show.
It's a movie maker contest to begin with :D And come on, the jumps can be seen perfectly, even though cutted. I don't like repeating the same jump twice. Besides, imagine there are 23 entries so far, with 80% of them with the same jumps. If you watch them all there's no way you wouldn't have met the jump in a previous movie. In the end, I was thinking of the jumps as an editing material, rather than showing them only, for... well - "imagine there are 23 entries so far, with 80% of them with the same jumps." But yeah, that might have been a bad way to think and as I said I doubt I'll overdo another video
