Hey all, I have a laptop (Hp Pavillion dv6-1330sp).It's max resolution is 1366x760 and the graphic card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650

Basically,I want to play Cs1.6 in 800x600 resolution. What happens is that when I put that resolution, I got 2 black bars on the sides of the screen. I also get the bars when I put that resolution on windows

I thought about buying a monitor to connect to my laptop with a square format so it would be ok with 800x600 but I have a friend that has a widescreen monitor and he says there is an option on his nVidia graphic card to remove those bars.
Any help? I would be really thankfull

Those black bars appear because you are not using a widescreen resolution on a widescreen. You can't play with that resolution without black bars.

You will get used to them fast but if you want them gone, you can just change the video options of Counter Strike, find Display Mode and change Normal to Widescreen and choose your desired resolution.

well I know they're gone in widescreen. the point is I'd rather want to play 800x600 which is a square resolution and I was wondering if that is possible with the widescreen monitor. It seems it's not.
Any idea if I an widescreen monitor that I connect to my laptop will have the damn bars too? or I gotta buy an old square form monitor, like a CRT or something :S

well i'm playing on 32" widescreen but I use 800x600.. never changed anything.. It must be possible to remove these bars. Try the smallest resolution widescreen has to offer, it may be as good as 800x600.

if you are using nvidia just go into the nvidia options and sett the scaling option to fullscreen and they should be gone.

right click desktop - nvidia controll pantel - and somewhere on display settings, think its called something with display placement tab, then there it should be a setting that you can change the scaling if i remember correctly, cant check now since im at school ;D

As far as I know, sometimes the only way is to set settings for a particular resolution on nVidia control panel. When you are normally in the desktop, change to 800x600 desktop resolution. Then adjust the scalings if needed (browse through the settings), and then try to open your CS with the same resolution.

I have 1080p on desktop but I play with 1024x768 at CS, at first I had the black bars but when I set the settings once with that resolution on the desktop, they have worked fine after that.
