I don't need to like a facebook page to appreciate her work. And the fact that the page is made by you and you spam around with it makes me wanna like it even less.
Rest in peace, Whitney.

But hey, I guess the word of a guy who rates a western from 1974 nine out of ten shouldn't be taken too seriously.

While the setting is westernish, the film is primarily a comedy. I also said it was a classic, which is a fact. I don't recall saying it was an art (it's very far from that, it is pretty much an audience film) nor that films should be made that way (what way?). I see nothing hipsterish in this.
I criticised your attitude, while you criticised my personal taste. I don't find any correlation between the two. Judging a person by its tastes is preposterous, especially if one enjoys various things. Let alone judging by a single unit of one of the tastes. Generalising much? Don't.
So, is movie from 1974 old and automatically bad? By that time, industry has really developed and had everything it needed for a successful and good piece. That is why Goethe's, Shakespeare's and Homer's stuff work well. They had all it needed to work perfect, just like film in 1974. On a more hipsterish note, La belle et la bête is chonologically older that Star Wars, but the latter is ridiculous (from today's perspective) on multiple levels and if released today it would have been a flop. Today it is dated, while the beforementioned film is not, save for the colour. That is why is hate seeing the word "old" paired with film. Have you ever heard of someone reffering to a book/painting as old?
Maybe you have a problem with westerns? Is there something wrong with seeing something else than concrete blocks and different kind of life that we are used to today?
Film is also a perfect medium to show how people lived once. And a film is usually a comment or elaboration of problems of its time. One of the reasons I enjoy "older" films.
Also, your examples of love/hate rapture imply that those groups consist of the very same people. You should agree that is ridiculous. Then you should accept the fact there is variety of opinions and people. Believe it or not.
Furthermore, I absolutely agree with your original post's last part.
