weirdest computer-stuck ever
hola,
so for about 1 year my desktop computer is getting a really weird stuck and none knows how to solve this shit. i'm giving you guys some facts, interested in your opinion! please take the time to read this, its quite detailed.
DA HISTORY
- i bought this computer in 2010. first weird thing i noticed: when it was turned off after about 30minutes a really strange constant noise appeared, like a speaker feedback. it stopped when i cut it off the power supply
- anyways, the computer was working fine. when the stuck appeared for the first time, i bought a 2nd harddrive and installed windows on it. i thought it has to be a OS-problem, or maybe the HDD broke. after a few weeks almost the same stuck appeard on this new drive with the new OS.
- i updated every possible driver, nothing changed
- i bought a stronger power supply unit and installed it. this eliminated the feedback noise when turned off, but it didnt help the problem in any way.
- took the computer to a friend of mine, working in a service team to fix pc-problems. he tested everything and said the harddrive i was currently using is broken and thats most likely the problem. i highly doubted this is the source of my trouble, but bought a new drive, installed windows again (i'm using a legal updated version of windows 7 from my uni btw)
- the computer was running fine for about 1 month, then the very same stuck appeared again. generally when using a fresh OS it seems to run flawless for a while, until the stuck first appears. after that it becomes more and more frequent... this is really strange imo because i am almost sure it is a hardware defect
- i tested my RAM with memtest, nothing found
ABOUT DA STUCK
-it happens on the desktop, while watching videos, in cs, while editing. no specific program related moment or something
-pc doesnt react to the mouse anymore, but the computer reacts to the windows-button and you can open the task manager, navigating with arrow buttons... but it cant perform the most simple tasks in this state, like deleting a file or closing a program doesnt work. (using a usb mouse & a serial port keyboard)
- when sound is played during the "stuck-moment" it "streches", sounds like some metallic slowmotion warp audio effect and it doesnt stop until the computer is turned off
- when i directly switch it on again after such a stuck, it doesnt even boot or gets stuck really fast again. when i wait a few days and dont use it, turn it on again, it happens to run without any stucks for several hours sometimes. this shit is really driving me mad, i already started to talk to my computer but its hard to find any charming words for this bastard
this could be usefull maybe
- one time during such a stuck-moment i was able to shut down the system regulary, using arrow keys in the windows start menu. so it closed the account, saved settings, turned off but the fan just kept running

your turn. thanks for every reply, just take a guess if you think you could know the source of this. i am about to buy a new motherboard this week, it is my last resort lol
My computer broke around 1year ago, got a new HDD, then I broke the motherboard causing it to fuck up pretty bad, some symptoms related to what you were saying. Got the motherboard, still had problems with my Desktop freezing and the computer being slow overall, so i got myself 8gb of ram and then just a week ago i bought a new PSU and now its working pretty much as it used to when i bought it.
sooo..
Priority nr1: Motherboard.
Priority nr2: New ram
I can't help you much, other than saying I experienced somewhat the same thing with my old pc, it was 5 years old at this time though.
Kept getting random freezes, started with steam friends causing the error, and just slowly branched out to other programs. Skype, Chrome, Firefox, messenger, mouse drivers. It just kept getting worse and worse, and started doing it when i booted the pc too.
My pc (may it rest in peace) didn't make it for more than a couple of months after these freezes started happening. I hope yours finds a different fate.
Like we earlier talked,
have you tested:
- Memtest86 (if the USB didn't work for ya, create that CD)
- check your temperatures (motherboard, HDD, CPU, GPU, anything)
-> use e.g. Speedfan for this
- if you have any additional devices in USB spots or in PCI-slots, unplug them
- try to undervoltage & undeclock your CPU to avoid possible core/voltage problems
- test your CPU with Prime95 (if there's problem with it, you should get BSOD under 100% load)
- ask PC store/mates for different part to test in this order: RAM, Motherboard, PSU, CPU..
-> you can also buy those, if your PC is even near the standards you can get new pieces very cheaply from Germany
That's something what I would start with in. I think I said most of it earlier but give those a try still :) If your Memtest didn't succeed last time, try really get it working, because if it's just RAM it would be really easy operation to change it.
Hmmm.. I have two ideas... Had similar issues with friend computers... First try to replace hdd cables (ata/sata), also try to change hdd slot on motherboard. If that doesn't help, try to replace mouse and keyboard. U wouldn't believe how weird computer can behave if one of those is failing... GL...
I had the same problem, and the problem was in my videocard. Check the both sides of cable which runs into your videocard - mine was very loose, and a sudden movement caused it to lose power or something and it got stuck. Also I had the same problem with my hard drive cable - it was very easily to plug it out, so it can be a problem

i was about to say the same thing.
well this post won't really help you but I had the exact same problem, computer-stuck, horrible sound freeze like in rikon's videos and stuff ending in an awesome BSOD.
I memtested my RAM, it was defective, i changed it but that didn't fix the problem.
i went mad and was about to stop jumping in virtual worlds and start a normal life... :(
then it stopped by itself, without reason lol..
no stuck for months now.
weird.

Good luck sir.
happened to me as well, but those freezes lasted around a second or so. even tho its more likely a hardware issue, do you keep dling windows updates?
