How to install a KZmod server
Hey guys,
please note that for now only windows servers are possible. If you have a linux server please check the post below or wait for the official linux server files to be released (they will be available in the future)!
Installing a dedicated KZMod server (via srcds)
Step 1: Download the HLDS Update Tool
Step 2: Run the HLDS tool. When asked for install directory, use C:\srcds for example
Step 3: Start > run > type "cmd" > press enter
Step 4: Run the following commands:
[blockquote]cd C:\srcds
HldsUpdateTool.exe -game episode1 -command update -dir C:\srcds[/blockquote]
Step 5: In C:\srcds, paste the kzmod folder with all files. You will have C:\srcds\kzmod.
Step 6: Make a batch file with the following content: C:\srcds\srcds.exe -game kzmod -console +map kz_ghosttown_ez +maxplayers 32
If the starting map or the playernumber should differ, simply change the map or the number.
Step 7: Update the batch file with other parameters if needed (for example +port 27016), edit the server.cfg file and add sv_master_legacy 0 in there, to allow the server to show up in the master server list.
Installing plugins:
Step 1: Create a directory called C:\srcds\kzmod\addons
.
Step 2: Install Metamod to the addons directory.
Step 3: Create a Metamod vdf. Type "kzmod" into the game folder box and click "Generate metamod.vdf": http://www.sourcemm.net/vdf
Step 4: Copy metamod.vdf to the addons directory.
Step 5: Install Sourcemod to the server.
Step 6: Populate the following files into your gamedata directory in the Sourcemod folder: http://files.xtreme-jumps.eu/kzmod/kzmod_sourcemod_gamedata.rar
These will enable Sourcemod radio menus (instead of the Valve style where you have to press esc) and enable SDKTools functions for plugins to use.
Step 7: Browse sourcemod.com to download the needed plugins or write the plugins yourself. Plugins are .smx files and get populated in addons/sourcemod/plugins.
Credits go out to DEV|Aoki for publishing this nice tutorial.
If you are running a linux server, you might want try software that emulates windows. Such a program is wine, for example.
rSw posted a nice tutorial for that:
Made this guide for the people that have linux server and would like to host a kzmod server until the official binaries are released. This guide is for debian based distro's.
Debian based linux without GUI
- apt-get update
- apt-get install wine lib32nss-mdns xvfb unrar
Debian based linux with GUI dont need xvfb
- apt-get update
- apt-get install wine lib32nss-mdns unrar
Because my server does not have a Gui i did the install on my windows pc and uploaded everything to the server like described above.
What could also work is to do the above step 1&2 on your windows pc and upload the created files to your server and follow from step 5 below to minimize the upload
Dont do the following commands as root.
And remove the spaces of w g e t :)
people who do have gui can do:
1: w g e t "http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.exe"
2: wine hldsupdatetool.exe (follow steps)
3: When the installer has finished, assuming you chose to install into "C:\srcds", your srcds directory will be available at "/home/user/.wine/drive_c/srcds"
4: cd /home/user/.wine/drive_c/srcds
5: wine hldsupdatetool.exe -command update episode1 -command update -dir .
when download is complete you can move the contents from srcds to your server folder in /home/user/kzmod/
6: mv -f /home/user/.wine/drive_c/srcds/* /home/user/kzmod or whatever directory you want.
7: cd /home/user/kzmod
8: w g e t "http://www.bhop.it/kzmod/kzmod_v1.rar"
9: unrar x kzmod_v1.rar
10: install metamod & sourcemod like described in link above for windows !
People without GUI:
- Xvfb :1&
then use the startupline:
export DISPLAY=:1; WINEDEBUG=-all wine srcds.exe -game kzmod -console -ip ... -port 27015 -maxplayers 32 +fps_max 0 +map kz_ghosttown_ez
People with GUI
WINEDEBUG=-all wine srcds.exe -game kzmod -console -ip ... -port 27015 -maxplayers 32 +fps_max 0 +map kz_ghosttown_ez
viewing the actual console is not possible maybe on servers with gui -> test to confirm :)
Apparently, Valve saw it fit to change everything again since this was tutorial made. The HLDS Update tool no longer works.
The following replaces Steps 1 through 4 for the windows install process. Afterwards, continue with Step 5.
Download SteamCMD.zip
http://media.steampowered.com/installer/steamcmd.zip
-Run it and let it update.
-Type exactly this: login anonymous
-Type in force_install_dir ./sdk2006/ (the DOT is important!)
-If that doesn't complain with errors do the next step because
it was meant to not react and just say Steam> when finished.
-Type in app_update 205
It will download the dedicated server files for 2006
Continue now with step 5 in the main post by faker.
