Hello people,

This year is my last year of high school in Romania, so I applied to two universities in Denmark (KEA & CPH business) .

As I saw some active danish people around the forum, I think we can discuss about this country a little bit :D

For example, I have some general questions :
- is the weather really that rainy? :<
- are the prices really that high? (though the life is very good)
- the income tax is 40%? O_O
- is anyone of you at KEA or CPH business academy?
- is anyone of you living in Copenhagen?

I'm a sport addict, so....rainy weather won't help me doing my stuff :<

Uhm, as you see I have a Danish flag, but I'm from Bulgaria. I currently live in Aalborg, which is in Nordjyland (~400km from Copenhagen), but I'm planning to move to Copenhagen after this semester to either KEA or CPH business.

I'll give you streight answers to your quetions:
- well from the time I've spent here it does rain, but I wouldn't say it's like England. What actually bothers me is the wind. Atm it's not cold, it's around 0*C, but the wind is making everything worse.

- Prices are high for people who don't work. Once you you work, they're okay, even cheap compared to salary/stock price ratio in Bulgaria/Romania.

- Well it is not calculated like that, but I just woke up and I'd say roughly it is around 40% yes.

- As I mentioned, hopefully I will

Don't worry, there're a lot of people from Romania, Bulgaria, so you're not going to be the only one. In my class (~35 people) 15 are Romanians, 12 or so are Bulgarians, rest are people from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Hungary..

just some extra stuff
- Danish people have kronas, 1DKK = 0.13E
- Transportation (as well as other paid services is expensive as hell. It costs me more to fly from Aalborg to Copenhagen than from Copenhagen to Bulgaria).
- Danish language is hard as hell as well..

Hopefully that can help you a bit

I really appreciate your reply. :D
Thank you for the information given.

Well, I'm not afraid of being by myself, actually two of my class mates are coming with me to study at the same universities.

I know a friend who is in the 4'th year at didn't learn danish language :-? . As matter of fact I heard it's quite hard to find a job if you don't know danish language. Is that true?

I'm glad to hear that many romanians are over there :D :D

About transportation, I enjoy ridding bikes and rollerblading (my favorite) .

Questions :
1.How are the danish people?
2.Are there any cute/hot girls over there?
3.People tend to be jealous ? (that is what I've heard)

cC|Nikolaa23/03/2013 18:37

Well yeah it's kinda hard to get a job if you're not studying Danish.

As transportation I meant overall - buses, trains, etc. Bikes are an option as well, but people them if you don't lock them. And you need to have papers for the bike itself (to prove it's yours and not stolen).

For the questions:
1. They're nice and very helping (talking from my experience). Everytime you go to the kommune (the municipality) they're trying to help you as fast as possible, everyone knows English - from the youngest to the oldest people.

2. Well the native scandinavian girls are like they're presented over the world - bright/white skin, blond hair, blue eyes :P

3. Jelous? Of what? This is something I haven't seen, tbh.

You also asked about money you need and I didn't answer you. Basically 4000 kronas shall be enough for your staying per month ~500E. I'm currently living on the center of Aalborg in a furnitured apartment (including all bills + internet) and I pay 2100DKK for the room. If your university is offering places they can be as low as 1500 if they're shared (I'm not in touch with Copenhagen's prices, but they're not that high compared to Aalborg from what I've heard).

For other utilities, My gym pass costs 130,- per month and I use roughly 70,- for food per day (can be less, I'm currently running on a diet so I buy more expensive stuff).

Hope that helps, if you need something else just ask, I guess I'm not the only one living in Denmark :D

Thank you again ^^

500E doesn't seem that much, I'm sure I can find something to work on and earn money :D

The most important thing for me, I mean, the big change that I want to see is in people! I'm full of these narrow minded from here...just very few are quite open to a lot of subjects and like to go deeper and deeper in conversation.

From what you're saying seems like people are nice, they speak English (nice) and they're not jealous or something like that (huh) .

What can you speak about the city? Is it clean?
What about the restaurants and pubs? Are those full of normal people, or just rich ones?

L.E : Oh, and what kind of things do students for money? I heard something about delivering and cleaning rooms .

Girls sound pretty, I prefer red haired, but tastes change over time :P

cC|Nikolaa23/03/2013 22:18

Yeah, basically you don't live on the Balkans, everything is like it should :D It is clean, ye. Well they're full of people pretty much all the time (both pubs and restaurants), but they're expensive as @#!$. 20ml vodka is 5DKK which is 0.7 euro

Well not much stuff you can do without knowing Danish... cleaning, delivering.. you'll get lucky if you get to work at a restaurant or so..

Btw, I'll send you a PM and explain you there what about

Woh....good thing that I don't drink alcohol ^^ and I'm not a smoker, so only win.

What about fast food? Is it cheap?

I wouldn't say so.. a normal(?) big mac menu is like 70-80DKK which is ~10E, you can get that for like 3-4E in Bulgaria :D

Arion24/03/2013 12:58

O_O 10E ? Omg...here I can eat 10 burgers with 10E

I feel nikolaa already asked all your questions. But I've lived here all my life so ask away if you have anymore questions.

cC|Nikolaa25/03/2013 02:49

well I've lived less than a year here, so not everything I've said might be correct so Danish people are free to correct me of course :D

daza mapper26/03/2013 21:28

i would need a tl;dr then cause i cant be bothered to read those walls of text :)

Arion30/04/2013 18:04

Does anyone of you live in Copenhagen?
I need to know about cost living in there, especially about accommodation!

In Scandinavia you eat kebab, not McShitnalds - if you're already going for fastfood.
