I don't really know if i can post tutorials in this forum, but it says "mapping", so i think this fits here.

This tutorial is really simple and actually a bit like rad0n's tutorial.

Here we go:

1. Start a new project by clicking on File -> New.

http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5489/20305313ue0.jpg

2. Select the block tool (shift+b) and make a block like this:

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2343/54303082tm0.jpg

3. Right click on it and select create object.

No picture for this since it's so obvious.

4. Activate it. (from 3d or any window)

http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/3686/12113694mo2.jpg

5. Clip it with clipping tool (shift+x) to 4 pieces that are identical to each other from window named top. Tip: If you make the cut at "X", then the block comes to identical pieces.

By pressing the clipping tool icon, you can change the cutting area, red area is deleted and white saved, when only white area is visible, it will cut the block to 2 pieces. *Hopes you understand*

By the way, the cut is done by pressing enter.

http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/783/84783591ou9.jpg

6. Now make sure you've activated every block, and press the vertex tool icon (or press Shift+V). Again, if you press the icon multiple times, it changes the screen. You see yellow and white dots, we don't need to touch to the yellow dots now, so press the icon until it shows only the white dots.

Well, drag your mouse like this over the block:

http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9623/61uy1.jpg

And press enter. Now you will see a red dot! Try moving it around:

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/8203/62hg2.jpg

Cool, eh? Now you can play with other dots too:

http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/5350/63qu5.jpg

Then press the selection tool's icon (or press shift+s), it should now look something like this in the 3d camera (use the camera (shift+c) to move around.

http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/2540/64on1.jpg

Okay, it maybe is not really cool, but when you fill your map with those, it will be.

Well that's all for now. Remember to watch out for using vertex stupidly and causing invalid stuctures, i used to do that alot when i was new to vertexing (2 days ago).

Post some comments & critics and report any mistakes if found.

On those walls you will get stucked at the edges. =)

I builded Flibos wall by using the clipping tool:
(On this one u wont get stucked)

So the solution is not to put too pretty walls where one should jump. :) Don't forget to use the NULL texture on those sides of every block that can't be seen.

AverageFreak22/02/2007 07:33

heh. wait 10 mins and i will post one too :D

nice job :D but nothing new for me :x

/Edit: Done.

1. Make a tunnel (or a cave,whatever)
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut1fl8.jpg

2.Make a solid in one of the edges, then clip it to get 2 solids
http://img140.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut2nh6.jpg

3.Clip them again, till you get this:
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut3ml9.jpg

4.Vertex them all,like this:
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut5lw0.jpg

5.Shear them, till you get something like this:
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut6un8.jpg

6.Clip the edges like this:
http://img98.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut7rb8.jpg

7.its pretty much ready...just copy/paste the thing you just made around and detail it... stretch,shorten,etc... :D
http://img338.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut8gc7.jpg
http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut9jw0.jpg
http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut10hj5.jpg

8.now deal with the textures :D
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tut11xu4.jpg

9.done.you should get something like this:
http://img89.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tehendma6.jpg
http://img463.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dfafadzl5.jpg

dont forget to null :D

-This is more like a tunnel(cave) turorial, but i find it pretty useful in making walls and mountains too ^^

radon mapper Tournament #310/03/2007 08:59

nice way to make cave terrain :D looks very good! but too many wallbugs i think :P its not for climbing but for the looks! wich is also just as good :D

drewbie mapper12/03/2007 03:46

thats heeps cool bl00d, i keep getting invalid solid structure though :P

AverageFreak12/03/2007 07:11

so you must be doing something wrong :o
i dont get invalid strucrures

kuttaja14/03/2007 15:16

I don't prefer flibo's way of doing a wall.

radon has probably shown this somewhere.

Volsfootball14/03/2007 18:08

I like all of these, vertex tool kind of makes some wallbug problems for me. So i stick with clipping tool to make walls and the vertex for jumps.

Fliborecord holder Tournament #202/07/2007 23:18

Yeah, my post is old, i prefer to make also a block with 5 edges and vertex with it. Then you won't have any wallbugs.

rE-06/05/2009 12:44(edited 06/05/2009 13:04)

AverageFreak > i cant do it :s i get lots of "Invalid Structure" bugs when i try to vertex, and could you upload some more screens? because i cant understand what to do at 4-6 screen

AverageFreak14/05/2009 17:48

ill update teh tutorial, sure, seems like some pics are broken too, but youll need to wait till saturday, when i get mah laptop. hamma doesnt work on my main pc :< btw vertex is useless after 4. :> you should get errors only up until 4, and be clear from there on
