theory of edgebugs
my hypothisis is that you need to land closer to an edge expressed in units then your speed expressed in units per frame moving away from the edge in order to make an edgebug:
distance from edge = units/frame.
this could also be expressed as: distance from edge = units/sec divided by fps.
I would guess that place you "land" at is actually the frame just prior to landing or the frame just after landing instead of the time in between frames when you would actually land if all acceleration were to be taken into account.
put more simply, if you were getting exactly 100 fps, and you were 5 units above the ground while falling at 1000 u/s (units per second) you would hit the ground on the next frame, 1000/100 = 10 u/f, units per frame.) but if you were also moving away from the edge at 500 u/s and you were 4 units away from the edge you would have an edgebug on the next frame. (500/100 = 5 u/f)
this would of course explain the luck factor in edgebugs, but more importantly it would explain the importance of fps in making edgebugs, and would also explain the speed factor. however I don't have an accurate way of testing this. I would also expect something similar to this in doubleduck edgebugs.
hope you found this useful. or at least interesting.
very nice fuzzard :) good hypothisis. An interesting read to be sure.

sounds interesting! ... good job so far!
i hope there is a possibility to check your theory...
Very nice. very nice indeed.
Nice job fuzzy =)

hmm I've been thinking, and I'm not so sure its REALLY luck, although it would probably feel like it since you have to be so close to perfect to hit an edgebug. This theory would seem to predict that one could be able to do edgebugs most of the time. with enough training of course. however I think there is some randomness to falling speed etc in the hl engine which could make this impossible.
is there a way to measure your units per frame while moving? or is the number proportionate to your moving speed? If so, there should be a way to convert your speed to units per frame, or average units per frame, and use that in a plugin to test this hyphothisis. Also, i was wondering if you mean the amount of units you move per frame counting the Z axis (up and down) or just your X and Y distance per frame. If thats the case then, i'm not sure if the HL Engine counts your current move speed using 3D or 2D calculations

:S lol i didnt understand a word of what ure saying... maybe cuz my english suX but gj anyway :D
Acording to eDark your theory is correct fuzzerd ;)
edgebug = only 1 frame on ground
jeap but you dont need to now on "edge" you just can "jumpbug" :)
nice
i thought about that too, but never got interested

Yes, it's about speed and fps.
not falling speed tho.
I could make a picture of this but im too lazy to.
but with out falling speed you wouldn't hit the ground :P
simply put if your above the ground on one frame, but then below the ground and off the edge on the next frame you'll do an edgebug.
heavy thinkin there fuzz, tho it helpe dme realized about eb'ing a bit more.
nice!

Exactly. It's a HL engines way to decide these things :p
ahaha fuzz thats interesting...
so if u strafe in air to get more air-speed its easier to do an edge... am i right? :D
hey fuzzy, i landed on a / shaped block (not surf block tho) and i edgebugged in the opposite direction i was jumping!

Wait, thats actually very intesting. Is that true?
