...for those beginners like myself, i cant understand how do u gain speed and most inportant heit, i cant jump the 220unit and i cant even dream about higer, i understand that u have to strafe while jumping but why? is it about the speed or the heit? what does the strafe do in a jump?all of these u cant learn from the videos and i have downloaded everyone of them. Please help me to be able to help myself so i can be a better jumper. (its so dificult to strafe in jumping do i have to add another finger on my hand :) )

the strafe gives you speed :) its a bug in the hl engine i think...and kreedzers found a way to use it

in the beginning it was the same with me :/
...just play man. Since I've downloaded all the video guides and realized that they give only the technique not the sense of the jump, i started playing kz maps, bhoping were it was possible for me, trying to make airstrafes or such without falling off the block :) and when felt like i'm going to pwn the uberhard 220 unit-length jump i started to practise and practise and practise...Now 230 is too easy for me and i'm trying to get the 240 though i've made it only 2 or 3 times so far :\
You must practice to get that 'sense'. No one can give it to you, or explain it cuz unfortunately it's something you should get on your own
GL practising :P

yesterday i made the 243, but i still have the feeling, that it is just luck for me... i often want to strafe as fast as possible and do it right the opposite way (mouse to the left->strafe to the right) :D

I suggest for now you should practice prestrafing. The
De_nuke red rock jump is the perfect jump to start learning to longjump on. after you can do that jump with the scout consistently than you will be ready to pwn the 220. I find that it's best to practice strafing and longjumping on a map other than kz_longjumps or similar longjump maps. I practiced my prestrafe for half a year and that brought me up to 232 units without even one air strafe. then after that i slowly worked my way up to 236-240 unit jumps. when you get to 240 it's really crunch time, thats when you have to learn to mix the prestrafing with multistrafes. I got stuck on 240 for the longest time, then took a good long break and played normal cs, but i was air strafing in game just out of habit ,and when i came back i pwned 240 three time in a row, then decided to see how far i could go without having practiced in a while, i made it to 247. so practice prestrafing then when you get stuck start over and practice air strafe and worry about mixing them later when you need to.

sorry for the long post.
