I'm here in behalf of my friend trying to find the best methods for this. Sorry if there is a thread with this subject already, tried finding one with the search but couldn't find anything.

My question is what is the best way to keep the clip quality when making a movie with several editors. When everybody submits their own part then it's rendered into a bigger movie, what are the best methods to keep the quality pretty much the same or is it even possible ?

This is how i did it and it worked fine. In-game use the same resolution, render the clips separetely (same rendering on both clips I think is good). Then re-render them together into one piece and you're done :-)

i use sony vegas for this and i convert my videos to HD so no quality loss and might get better !

mkvtoolnix. extracr all clips what u are need. add audio, and include all into one .mkv file. without decode video. My fav method. but if clips are have different resolution, need add avisynth script before. Also u can make all w/ MeGUI. For more info and tech google it.

Keeping the best quality?
2 renders:
1 .avi lagarith file
1 .wav uncompressed PCM

As simple as that.

Thanks for the help so far !

So basically if all clips are the same resolution and same rendering settings, re-rendering them all into one movie shouldn't decrease the quality ?

That .mkv idea looks interesting too never heard of it before so we will need to look into that. The idea is that you add all the clips into one .mkv file that acts a bit like a .rar ? How do you add the sound from multiple clips into it ? Also can you upload .mkv clips onto youtube or do you have to do something after that phase ?

ndR you mean first the editors render into .avi with the lagarith codec and then re-render into the big movie as .wav format ?

i dont know why mv is nice idea but .avi or .mp4 is the best for videos , u can convert the sound from ultiple clips into mp3 and then put the mp3 on the current video you want if u know what i mean

also .mkv can be uploaded on youtube but might be converted back to flv or mp4 , sometimes it needs other conversion of it
u need more research .

If you want to keep the best quality, just keep in mind that uncompressed is necessary. Lagarith .avi is basically the same as uncompressed .avi but with a smaller file size.

You gotta do 2 renders:
1 video only render: .avi lagarith file
1 audio only render .wav uncompressed PCM

Once every moviemaker has done that and sent everything to the main moviemaker who's going to do the final render, this guy just has to put all the renders into a Vegas project, organize the clips the ways he wants and then just do the final render.

To sum up: uncompressed means no quality loss.

.avi cant cosntaint multiple video layers, mp4 not so god as mkv. And avisynth did all w/o unconvert clips. But ye, u need extract audio from clips. I Rip'ed around 40 anime BD. I know .mkv too deep. If need i can make tutorial step by step. Head idea its about convert it w/o lost quality, and don't decode clips to lossless video codec. Yea, ndR way is simple and give good quality. But its too long, and u must need huge hdd space.

Also 2nd way is based on ndR idea. Its frameserver. You just need put frameserver to your vegas. So you can make project w/ original clip. save vegas project and next (!) encode project w/o lesseless codec. Its looks like linked file to original clips. So save hdd space. Too lang, but based on your cpu. Nothink know about GPU extend help w/ encode. Didn't google it. This way i also can write step by step as tutorial. Also, you must chose better "quality profile" for save current quality. Why ? because clip was encoded before, so lost some quality after 1st encode process.

Chose what interesting for you, i'll help later.

The most simplest answer is:

.wmv lightens the quality
.mp4 - darkens the quality

don't ever use those, always render in uncompressed .avi that way it stays completely the same, and after you got all parts (which were rendered by .avi, render them again in .avi and then compress them with lazze's xencode etc. Into divx .mp4 file
