How can people connect to one's own LAN server??
I want to know how...
some weeks ago, ivansky told me to teach someone my IP without port and I must do sv_lan on my LAN sv.
but it failed. Anyone help me how can it??
I want to invite someone to my LAN.
Also I want to connect my friends' LAN sv, help me TT!
better forward ports for CS first, first go to portforward.com, find counter strike in the ports list and find your modems manufacturer and the model, now go to your modem setting, usually 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the web browser[might be different in some cases]. And do exactly as shown in the portforward.com website, save all your settings and restart your modem. Now launch CS, start a new game and put sv_lan 0 in your console. Now your friends will be able to join your server after you give them your ip address which you will find at whatismyip.com or similar sites.

N then, Is it legal compare XJ's rules??
yes it's legal :)
hamachi is the shit
(RANT)
imo port forward > hamachi
sure if you haven't done it before it might require some effort to set up but it's good to learn new things right?
once you have set it up on the router you don't have to set it up again (you have preferred ending number to your IP on the LAN, like 192.168.1.X, because you router will probably only be forwarding the port on 192.168.1.X)
no restrictions on people joining either like the 5 in hamachi is nice too
just my thoughts...
Ok so just adding a bit extra to what r4xe already said, this is a good way if you are stuck or if anyone else searches this thread in a few months or something:
- in your router settings (see r4xe's post!) forward range 27015 to 27015 (you must set a start and end port but you only need one port so it's the same)
- forward the port on both UDP and TCP
- 27015 is the default port when you go start a New Game.
- this port goes on the end of your WAN IP
(use http://www.whatismyip.com, e.g. 90.90.90.90:27015)
just tell your friends to add it to favourites or connect through console 'connect 90.90.90.90:27015' your WAN IP may change for the next time you want to play with your friends depending on your router settings so check the website if you get problems
- after you forwarded the port you may have to assign the port forwarding 'profile' or something to the IP your PC uses on the router (the 192.168.1.X)
and again like r4xe said, you will need sv_lan 0 making your server allow external (WAN) connections so they can join. you can put this in your LAN server config (cstrike/listenserver.cfg)
or if you are recording it might be useful to make a bind with settings like:
bind "PGUP" "mp_freezetime 0;mp_timelimit 0;mp_roundtime 6;heartbeat;fps_max 99.5;sv_lan 0"
gl... :gj:
