Getting more competition
KZmod has just a slidely problem like KZ had in the past.
If you finish you get elite mode for non checking and bronze/silber gold medals but thats not really interesting for a competition. To make it more interesting there is a seperate way with sourcemods with the external top15.
But isn't it a mod? It would be more interesting when there is a buildin toplist.
We have serveral ways of doing it.
Servers sides only
- Text based (like older amxx plugins)
- SQLlite based (like Teamspeaks db's)
- MySQL, PostgreSQL
World wide
- SQLlite based (like Teamspeaks db's)
- MySQL, PostgreSQL
Cons:
Textbased
- Not many editing possibliltys
SQLlite
- Serverside db only.
- serverside client or db download to your workspace for editing it
MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Serverside database
- proper secure for the Server itself
- client / webscript for editing the db
Pros:
Textbased
- easy to delete
SQLite
- Many possibilitys to sorting/editing the list
- Different ways to show the list
MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Can be connected with different dbs worldwide.
- Many possibilitys to sorting/editing the list
- Different ways to Show the list
If kzmod would have an inhouse toplist like one of those methods mention above. i bet it would rise the activity.

this!!!
Wen you are in game, type "top" in the chat, wait a second and suddenly a toplist will appear. This top list is far more extensive than the one for 1.6. It is written for .net framework and mysqli if I am not mistaken. We are just waiting for someone to add the link to it to this website.
We had this back on KZmod.com. Here the list is already running for the #1 KZmod server......

:-)
yeah....well.....it would be nice yes I agree if it was directly built into the game......but it still needs a database. We have had this topic a few times in fact. We would also like the other plugins directly part of the game.
First priority is getting the port to the 2007 engine done, holding the Open Beta and getting the KZmod link presence here complete.
Well tops like in 1.6 is better, it loads faster, I don't know the top we have now is kinda bugged, showing only 2 courses, but eh maybe its just my internet dont load it all
a simple textfile would do it too.
egg a map with the name kz_toplisttest and it has different courses.
textfilename could be kz_toplisttest_top15.txt
the courses are called:
- Main
- Minimap1
The textfile could be then:
[Main]
1=Jumper1/STEAM_0:0:100/200
2=Jumper2/STEAM_0:0:200/230
3=Jumper3/STEAM_0:0:300 /250
...etc...
[Minimap]
1=Jumper1/STEAM_0:0:100/200
2=Jumper2/STEAM_0:0:200/230
3=Jumper3/STEAM_0:0:300 /250
...etc...
explainings:
[Main] = its the coursename of the course from the map.
1=.... = its the position of the jumper
Jumper1 = example name
STEAM_0:0:100 = the steamid if somehad cheated the top15 we could punish them.
200 = time in seconds
The Server could check if mapname_top15.txt exists if not create it on loading the map.
Now when someone finished the map, the server just needs to check which course had been completed and then update the mapname_top15.txt by looking up the [Coursename] and recalculate the positionings. If he is in update the textfile and print out a message with rank and time.
dEmolite you're awesome!:D
That toplist only loads courses that were played to the end, checkpoints or not, Viglio :D That is why you feel there are courses missing. We wiped the list to start over fresh. You caomplained we don't have it up, now it is up and you still complain. Amazing :D
I know the webbrowser in the 2006 engine isn't the cream of the crop, but thats got nothing to do with our "lovely" and "extensive" toplist :D You can't wait 1.8 seconds for it to load?
@Demo heyyyy :D Nice stuff, but we know all that already. That's only for one server and not a master list people can look at. Thats why we chose a master list with a real database or do you want 40 seperate toplists if we had 40 servers?
Believe me I am not shooting it down by any means! We just chose, at the time, to make a master databse toplist that involved all trusted server admins' servers. One collective list.
And again I hope you don't get upset at me like last time when I say: Priority at the moment is getting the game finished in working order on the 2007 engine, which is proving to be quite a pain in the nards at the moment. After that it is open beta time. Then concentration on getting records and specific events rolling. We have about 15 necessary changes to make as well as adding a major feature the game is seriously missing.
If you get a bit more specific we might be able to add it to the to-do list.
no no i am not upset. its just it would get a bit more control in to the activity.
if i look back in the past we had 100> Servers in 1.6 with different toplists but its your decision :)
Having different toplists is actually a good thing. So newer players can search for servers with players at their skilllevel. And when i say newer players i mean ppl like me who are too bad to even consider beating one of those records^^
ok....I bet we could even have both running side by side on trusted servers. I absolutely agree with "the more the merrier". My only thought is that some admins can edit their lists however they choose since they are just text files.
I think it could be cool anyway, because the main toplist, will remain the offical one.
text files can't be edited by admins unless they don't have access to the server ftp.
nm, misunderstood the complaints.
Psyxo.....that is the main reason why we didn't do that for our "Official Toplist" and only offered it on basis of trust and was the main reason why the spread out open list is a good idea and a bad untrustable one at the same time depending how mature the server admin is.
If you don't already know, the current toplist is located here: Link
The toplist was built around the concept of aggregating times from different servers yet keeping each server's times separate to allow for a particular server to be removed from the list with minimal impact to player stats.
The intent was that anyone with a server could load the SM plugin, generate an authentication key for their server and then have a toplist for their server without any additional work or database setup. There is a PHP port of the current toplist webpages that supports indexing for a particular server. This would allow for servers to have their own separate toplists and for a master set of records to be aggregated for a subset approved/trusted servers. Currently it only shows the aggregate of trusted servers.
Courses only get added to the toplist when someone finishes them. This will avoid bad entries for courses that were not properly created or are impossible to complete. For now, a lot of courses aren't listed because no one has completed them.
It would be nice if there was more in-game, event-driven feedback from the toplist, but currently data only travels in one direction. Entries can be added in the database through a web API but the game server cannot access any information. Anything more would require a mechanism for the game server to query data from the remote database, which is entirely possible but requires a good amount of work.
Regardless, latency will always exceed the case of using a simple SQLite database for a single-server solution. If someone would prefer this type a toplist, it could be created by anyone using SM.
