Skip or a shortcut?
Hello XJ we are in need of opinions here, how do you define what is a skip and what is a shortcut? Or do they perhaps mean the same thing to you? Do you define them by the amount of blocks they cut or by the size of the jump? Or is there possibly some official statement to this?
If you could leave your answer like this it would be of great help:
Skip -
Shortcut -
For me
Skip - it can be even on bhopblocks, you just skip some blocks that saves you 1-2 seconds.
Shortcut - They are mostly not so obvious like skips, and saves more then seconds.
For me
Skip - if there are 3 blocks, u jump from 1st to 3rd in the shortest way (like bhop skips)
SC - if there are 3 ways of running, u choose the shortest
4 me
*Skip - if there are 3 blocks, u jump from 1st to 3rd in the shortest way (like bhop skips)
*a SC "skips" more than 1,2,3,..,20 jumps.
Skip: If you find a way that skips a small amount of blocks. Let us say on a bhop map. You find that you don't need to jump to the bhopblock that is to left of you and can jump right ahead to the next bhopblock that's infront of you. Instead of jumping 10 blocks on that bhoppart, you instead jump 9.
Shortcut: If you skip a big amount of the map. Let us say on a block map. You find a way to skip atleast one whole block.
Skip: When you just skip a (couple of) bhop block(s) / jump(s)
Sc: saves more than 5+ seconds.
For me a Skip is a SC but a SC isn't a skip
It's the same.
Skip is when you skip one or a couple of blocks on a waypoint path.
Shortcut is when you cut between blockparts/waypoint paths.

thats not possible!!!!!! you probably want to state skips are a real subset of shortcuts

A square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not NECESSARILY a square, that what i wanted to say, so ->
A skip is a shortcuts but a shortcuts is not NECESSARILY a skip :D
Definitions should be strict and accurate and apply to every case.
Thus using seconds in definition would be totally wrong (for everybody is individual)
Using number of blocks would be very unlucky too.
I like most the ShoCk's definition. (also Severely)
A skip is a simple block skip, like in bhops, and a shortcut in most of times is more "secret", hard or with more complexity.
I doubt there will be an official statement about it of any kind, because it means the same basically as some of you noticed. Community itself is assigning additional meaning to define significance in its own context, so it all just opinions. My personal understanding in this context:
skip: anything while jumper doesnt leave original map route (f.e. jump overs) and nonhard/obvious several jump shortcuts
shortcut: leaving original map route in order to get faster time in general
so borderline between the two is combination route/difficulty/length and individual common sense. Defining strict length etc would fail to apply to all cases anyway.
Skip = skipping a few blocks to save a few seconds
SC = skipping a larger section of 15-20sec+
agree with gLp,sprin
imo
Skip: a small time save where you miss a jump in a climb part or any number of blocks on on a bhop stage (even if it saved 30seconds). normally very obvious and you can usually spot then in your first 1 run.
SC is something that is an extreme 'skip' or a 'skip' that makes use of a bug in the map or game engine, leaves intended map route or results in a substantial time save, which could be 3seconds on a 1minute map
