Internet personality vs real

your irl personality is the "basics" u start with online, if you act differently online its either cuz u a) got a low selfesteem or b) you wanna make ppl rage.

Imo If a person doesn't have a sense of achievement in their real life it's easy to lose themselves in a virtual world where they can get a false sense of accomplishment. So their personality changes but only "virtually"

Lets take KZ as an example. We were all new in this game at some point. But as time went on and players got better and some newbie came to this scene. Players who already "achieved" something ( already beat some wrs, were known over the site ) they started to look from "above" at the beginners. Its not happening only kz but also in reallife tho.

The real problem with these "two personalities" real-life vs internet-life is that imo people feel more superior on the internet. Only a handful of people would say exactly the same things if they are confrontated with the same people in real life.

People do not change even if they want to, even if they should. Only their behaviour changes based on some circumstances.

"Faked" personallity are often just an "exacerbate" version of someone.
People have their own image of themself, and want to be a better one on internet, because they have more influence on that image than in real life.

I think, people who are really different IRL are rare, and are most of the time manipulative people, who just want to feel good with themself and not create any link with people, because it's internet and most of us will never met anyway.
And I don't think it's necesseraly bad, Internet should be first a place to chill and feel good, and if this work for them, that's fine.

But most of the time, people are the same on internet than IRL.
Internet is just more platonic. So relationship are distorded.

i guess its a little more complex than just online behaviour vs. irl as internet is a huge space where each place has its own rules. when the rules change, people’s behavior will most likely change as well.

if you take for example an image board where people can post anonymously such as 4chan. there are basically no rules in there and people can pretty much act however they want, with complete “freewill” if you will. what it’s interesting to notice, it’s that most of the people actually behave the same. they all use the same memes, call ppl’s name with the same words (n-word, f-word, c-word), etc… so despite the pseudo freewill this website provides to its users, they all act the same. there’s no individual, there’s just a group. you do what the group does. that’s what you would call ‘gregariousness’. so i guess it would be very hard to draw any conclusion on someone’s personality posting in such place.

a forum like XJ is different i guess. you have a nick, a personality, a history. history based on the different posts you’ve written whether they were about yourself (i.e personal info) or gave your opinion on a specific topic. obviously, that doesn’t prevent someone from lying about himself but then again people lie all the time in real life too. so i think you can read someone to some extent based on what he writes on a forum like this one. i'd like to think that people don’t act that differently here than they do in real life.
