MSL (aka Mouse Speed Limit)

Hi there,

I made this thread to learn more about this cheat.

The function of MSL is to limit the rotation angle of the mouse. For example: If you turn the mouse 110º to the left, the mouse will rotate only by 90º. This allows the player to get more Max Speed than they normally can get.

In this video I show how to detect some cases of MSL: YouTube - MP4 - Demos

Difference between the strafe movement:

So far there is no public information of how to enable or disable this cheat. All I know is that it can be activated with mouses that have PS/2 port.
In my opinion it is caused by a system problem and not by the mouse itself (as is commonly believed) since I have seen cases of MSL on the Razer Death Adder mouse.

Of course, all the information I'm giving is based on my interpretation. I don't know the technical aspects of the internal functionality of this cheat.

The purpose of this thread is to help players who have it and can't disable it without changing their mouse.

I would like to know from someone who has or has had MSL, what have you guys tried to get it disabled?

Greetings.

if i jumped without msl 255-254 with msl i will jump 257 :D?

sensa30/08/2014 03:44

Thanks for that info. Nste, I don't think you'll necessarily jump more, especially if you're not used to it.

I gues peak's jumps in "Fuck the Gravity" movie are MSLed (09:20 for example)

I think everyone knew

Not gonna go names but I noticed it too many times in all of the demos of some specific jumpers on XJ, that they have stronlgy marked higher speed gain. I don't think you can see it from the stats but visually it's easily noticeable, when they do 2 strafes and gain as much speed as I could only get with my 4 strafes and forth. At first I thought the thing was in either dpi or hz of the mouse but I got both at max as well as these jumpers. Perhaps this is it, MSL? Wasn't it easily detectable in 2011 anyway?

I think some a4tech x7's had it.

It seems so, but I need the demo to check.

Hahaha, I have seen many strange things too. I was surprised in 2010-2011 when I checked the MSL in all KZ-Arg jump demos (~300). Some old school players had it accidentally.

Yeah, it's easily detectable. As I said before, the purpose of this thread is to help players who have it and can't disable it without changing their mouse.

I've played with A4tech X6 mouse back in 2012 and it got msl. How did i disable it ? A4tech X6 does not have any specific settings of DPI so you cant actually disable it. That's why the only one solution for me, was to purchase a new device and idid it. I don't know about other mices, but i do really believe that you can set MSL on every single mouse.
And btw, if you get used to MSL it will be so damn hard to play without it.
When i was jumping with MSL, my LJ and my strafes itself was so damn uber. Every single LJ jump of mine was more than 253. I even did 258+ stats more than 2 or 3 times. But when i've bought my DeathAdder... jesus christ dude, i could not jump 245 LJ for more than 2 weeks.

p.s nothing special, i just shared my opinion about msl and i hope it will be usefull for you. And i'm not quite sure that you can get rid of it only by changing your device. There HAVE to be another path of escape.

I don't think they need to know as I'm sure they're fine with it =D However, it's quite a crafty move of you to check on the people's honesty xD

Thanks for telling your experience Sensitiv3. Did you tried reinstalling the mouse drivers or even windows?

Yep. I've tried to replace the current drivers with an older version but it didnt work. I also have changed my Win Xp to Win7 but i didnt do it cuz only of MSL. And if im not mistaken, when i got Win7 installed instead of Win XP i've already got my DeathAdder so i dont really know if (re)installing the widows would help.

Nah :P

Just compare this demo to any of them using:

playdemo "[anywr].dem" 0.3
playdemo "msl.dem" 0.3
