you know whats stupid? saying lj is stupid
LJ is like cars. Everybody wants to own a good/decent one, but even so, nobody understands why you need a +2,000,000Euros one. 258 is like that car which is so "expensive" that it has no point.
not really, 258 is a new world record, not a price tag

You're trying to be that first guy, aren't you? :)))

Btw propane I have to disagree with you, when I said stupid I did mean that it really is stupid and it was said not out of hate even though it might have sounded so, I apologize for that. Geeking a one-second-lasting-jump for such long times and we all know how much time it takes one to make a lj record, this part makes worries. There's absolutely no brain activity involved, it basically kills all the thinking process while you're set on zombie mode and repeat all the same things for so long times. This thing makes you dumber as a person. Even to compare it with map climbing, there's much more combinations and situations and there's basically a lot more than in longjumping, let alone climbing and kreedzing generally is too far from being a self-developing game. Longjumping is the worst and geeking 258 which should probably take months or years to make is scary.

I agree with you and i trust you dndt want to be a hater! But saying something is stupid just because you use less brain than other things is offensive =P
Well you can ignore the comparing part of my post. Longjumping has no any sort of semantic load, no self-development trait, nothing.
It is stupid.

It is not stupid, it is forcing performance to its limits. It amazes thousands of people, why should it be stupid?
Do you really think there's no brain activity when longjumping? What do you think controlls our eyes and hands? Appart from that, you need to find the right prestrafe, spin angle, strafe flow. Perfecting your skills which requires thinking. Other sports would be stupid too, according to your logic.
+1 jack frog nailed it. sometimes i, too, believed longjumping was stupid. after i started jumping 254-255 constantly, i enjoyed it. if i could do 257-258, why wouldn't i go for the WR ? after all, why did we start playing this game ? it makes part of kreedz. WE WANT TO SEE LIMITS ! BROKEN BOUNDARIES!
OT: max3semne seems the guy for the job or necromancer (toni)
Sure thing brain is in constant activity 24/7 but you know right that infomrative load that your brain processes can vary pretty vastly? And just because your brain makes activity it doesn't mean you can't get dumber, people do get dumber with 24/7 functionalizing brain.
As in regards to longjumping I do believe it works purely on automatic understandings. Maybe when you start longjumping it is different, first you need to understand then you need to remember and after some time this whole longjumping thing becomes something we can call reflex. It works automatically, you don't give any thinking to it at all, it's always the same scenario every jump and it's two seconds long? For the sake of experiment try to sync left mouse strafe with D and right mouse strafe with A, then there will be more brain activity but as you'll be doing strafing this way your memory will always try to make a normal longjump because that has become a reflex.
I didn't really want to make comparisons this time but again even when you put climbing next to longjumping. In climbing there are different scenarios, different approaches, different techniques, unexpected moments that require quick decision making with sometimes difficult techniques. And I'm not even saying climbing is anything near to be self-developing. I can even go as far as saying it is more to being stupid rather self-developing.
I'm maybe going a bit far with all this analyzing but initially my point was that this particular 258 block is stupid to spend time on if it will take you THAT much time to take.

I agree. What you describe is called muscle memory. While it is definitely useful on regular climbing maps, it is undeniably the primary factor of longjumping. It might seem stupid to practice longjumping over and over again for a reason, because it is. Not stupid in a sense that what you like doing is stupid, if you enjoy it then by all means, do it. Stupid in a sense that it doesn't require any thinking, and it's a repetitive task that your brain is going to assimilate over time without you even having to focus to do it. Which is the main reason climbing and longjumping are totally different, and that climbing is objectively superior in terms of skills on every aspect of the game.
So good luck to whoever is going to break the record, but I don't see how it would be of any interest. We know it's possible, it's just a matter of who is going to push the limits of their muscle memory, which is nothing but getting dazed until you make it.
Very solid point, Selhouette333.
You couldn't convey my point any better, very well written koukouz!
Well, it's an opinion, but not very convincing. In fact it is contradictory. I don't really see why climbing should be superior to longjumping, especially on the level of beating world records. Ever watched some of those "WR attempt" videos? Those guys restart their runs over and over and over again just to beat the map by a few milliseconds. A very repetitive task where every move is the same. It's a bit more complex since you have to go through the entire map, but the whole process is programmed in their brains aswell. No brain work here either.
fame trying to beat cg_coldbhop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dlTdG8XF-Nw
56 mins of the same repetitive movements.
It's a competition, nothing else. Depending on your preferences KZ as a whole can be stupid too. Why wasting time in geeking an ancient computer game when you could do real sports?
How is it contradictory if you admitted yourself that climbing is more complex than longjumping, and not by a bit but by quite a lot. Well that's not my main point with climbing being less stupid lol, koukouz conveyed my point very well.
But yeah climbing as a whole is surely a stupid activity but I like it nontheless and I do it. :)

The movements vary more than in longjumping, but once they're programmed in your "muscle memory" it's basically the same. That's why I showed these "WR attempt" videos. Every move is the same and it's basically just geeking from your memory, watch it.
You're right but there's more than just that. While longjumping is basically and solely based on muscle memory, climbing is the same but to a larger degree plus more things like I described before. Muscle memory is one of the factors in all sports but in longjumping it's like the only factor and the only combination without different scenarios where everything is maximally repetitive and usually takes A LOT more attempts to aCcomplish than a map record. Purest geekness.
In climbing you need to get familiar with the map, to remember it, to learn jumps, find right approaches to them, inspect it for skips and scs. Also often reaction and quick decision making. It's in fact a lot more than longjumping and tbh c'mon it's obvious I don't know why you're arguing.
It's all comes down to what part of the game you like to spend time on. Some like to geek maps like goldbhop, where there's nothing more to be learnt or improved. Just follow keltas run and hope you get lucky. Same with long jump. Become a pro at 255-256. Geek till you make 258. It's both nonsense tbh but it's just down to what interests you.

Can this russian monkey from tungusia and other frozen lands shut up and go back in his cave, if u want to play climbing part of kreedz just do it, can you shut up if you have problem with 252 lj stats?
