Hey,

CS used to be smooth with "-freq 120" in the launch options but now it's just really shitty despite my PC being a lot better than before (same monitor). I'd like to play some KZ but it's so twitchy that there's no use... got random freezes too which makes it impossible to finish a map without checkpoints.

Is there anyone who had that problem and fixed it?

Had this too before I switched my monitor's hz value to 100. It's weird, may be something to do with benq since I suppose thats what you use and some others got the same problem with it.

these are my parameters:
-refresh 100 -noforcemspd -noforcemaccel -noforcemparms

Maybe its just freq thats not working for you?

Also it might jsut be because CS 1.6 only supports up to 100 hz and not 120/144? I think that might be it :)

+ 120 freq does not work at every resolution.

I think -freq got changed to -refresh

Doesn't seem to be doing it for me. Thanks anyway :)

omg

it has nothing to do with benq monitors, its just the shitty cs engine not liking 100+ hz

The problem is that the game still runs in 60hz, because it does so by default, and now there is no option to choose frequency, so you have to lock it with a 3rd party software. Such as Graphic driver settings. You gotta choose the same resolution on ur desktop and ingame + make sure that desktop resolution has support of 120hz oraz use a program called "refresh lock".

koukouz mapperrecord holder08/03/2015 17:58

Well I fixed my problem which was actually very stupid. I randomly checked my resolution on windows, and found out about the fact you can also change your frequency in advanced parameters. My frequency was set to 60hz for some reason, boosted to 120hz and now it's working fine like before!

If you have the same problem, that might be it.

SzczupaK08/03/2015 18:39

Like I said resolution needs support of 120hz. CS will be always set as default to the frequency of refreshing set in desktop resolution(settings).

I don't get it, I'm playing on a 144Hz monitor and it's perfectly fine. Maybe it has something to do with NVIDIA LightBoost? I don't really know actually.

kkz back to KZ?
sorry for offtopic

Were you even using more than 60 hz then? If you hadnt changed it in the monitor options you might not have even been using +100 hz in the first place :O

cs uses frequency set by windows resolution so if your win res is 60hz cs will work on 60 hz if 75hz -> 75hz in cs etc. :)

If his screen monitor supports 120hz and he ran the -freq 120, then yes, he most likely was. Since the CS update that command was removed (some say its -refresh now, although that doesn't work for me), so I use a handy program called "RefreshLock" to get my desired hz every time I want to play 1.6. The benefit of using RefreshLock is that you can maximize the hz your monitor is able to run, by still keeping your desktop screen resolution the same without the need of sacrificing screen resolution to get the maximum hz. Typically, many 1080p 60hz screens are only able to run up to 75hz if the desktop screen resolution is lowered quite a bit, but by using this program you can set it to 75hz and still run the games with the highest resolution.

PS: I also forgot to mention that it's important to know for a fact what hz your monitor supports before using RefreshLock. But by default, the program should list up the available hz changes you can make.

a question..
if his monitor is 120 and -freq 120 then cs uses 120 indeed.
that's alright but i have the next question..

legal FPS setting is fps_max = 99.5, developer 0 and fps_override 0 , all that means your game's FPS will be 99.5

but the game is accepting -freq 120 , and as far as i know (i might be wrong) the monitor's refresh frequency must match with your game's FPS.

To achieve that you use that thing called "vertical synchronization"
gl_vsync 1

that will make both things match automatically.

so how is it matching this?????

cs = 99.5 fps
monitor = 120 hz or fps

I've just got an answer from some person in here in a thread of mine, where he told me why do I'd want to have a 240 hz monitor to improve gameplay? it looks like a controversy or you all guys just don't use vsync, but in that case why you all use different settings for both things, i mean 99.5 fps and 120 -freq ,
if there's a logical explanation
