CHAMS - Movement Based Competitive FPS
Here is a trailer for a game I have been developing, which has a heavy influence from KZ maps and movies.
Teaser Trailer
Summary: CHAMS is a first person shooter I am developing, with the goal of creating a competitive arena game, utilizing a completely original gameplay concept (see details below) while taking influence from popular existing first person shooters (EG. Quake, Unreal, Counter-strike)
The Development Team: Currently I am the only developer on the project. All assets, including models, sounds, maps, materials, post-process shaders, code, blueprints and trailer/trailer music have been created by myself (with the exception of player models which currently use models provided by the starter content).
Vision: "Minutes to learn, a lifetime to master". The goal is to create a game focused on competitive play. There should be no aspects of 'difficulty seeing' such as camouflage / dark areas on the map, everything should be customisable (including enemy colours, weapon trail colours, detail levels etc.), and volume levels should not matter. The game should be simplistic, both visually and conceptually, and easy for new players to pick up and spectate. This is based primarily on how professional Quake players choose to customise their game in order to get the best advantage. Such as using full bright player models.
A further vision is to create a game that has an all encompassing movement system which can be used for speedrun challenges. Many elements of the game are based on Quake / Half-life / Counter-strike (KZ) movement skills. While remaining simple to use with only the regular number of keys (crouch, walk, jump, WSAD).
Core / Unique Concept: The concept the game is based around (not revealed in the current teaser trailer) is sound visualization and its interaction with the custom movement system.
- All sounds emitted by players make the player briefly visible throughout the level, through all walls / surfaces.
- Crouch & walk based movement keeps the player silent. This includes crouchslides, wallslides and walljumps.
- Players are able to move around at a fast pace and make noise like they would in Quake or other similar arena shooters - however, they are organically rewarded for complex / intricate movements, as it will help them remain silent and hidden from enemies.
- There are no restrictions on the movement system, the player is free to chose how to move around the map (fast while making noise, slower with more complex movements to stay silent, or a combination of the two, perhaps strategically chosen to 'give away' fake positions and movements to enemies).
- In the final version of the game, all sounds will be visualized (even if the player is facing the wrong way) so that actual sound is not needed. Volume and visibility should not matter in the game. Allowing players to play with music on or without headphones.
I'm saving a lot of the details for when I make a Kickstarter campaign, but this is the basic premise. Soon I'll be looking for outside help on developing assets (mainly maps / modular map elements) and other areas where I fall short. Any feedback appreciated!
Although there is a bit too little info provided for the game it doesn't look like the one influenced by kreedz tbh but rather another prototype of Reflex or the upcoming Reborn by James Harding. And while I appreciate your effort and impulse of giving our commuity a first hand advertisement this is hardly the right place to do so, I would rather suggest you to visit esreality.com - the home for fast paced shooters nowadays.
Good luck finishing your game up though, I favour fps games from the very beginning of my gaming days and I'd be gladly following progression of your game if you gave me a tip of your homepage if there is one :)
KZMOD BEST GAME
I really like your idea. I like it becouse it is a simple game. I like it becouse it has these walljumps, wich are really unique for me. Id like to play this for real, and i hope it wont require too much (beocuse i have bad pc). Good luck in your future of this game, big + from me
Looks really awesome man
good luck with this project. looks amazing
i would play it for sure
i'm personally not a fan of these kinds of neon style graphics/designs in games. the concept sounds interesting though and could most likely allow for some interesting maps and gameplay. keep us updated
I would play it too definitely, But would it be like 5v5 ? or deathmatch mode? if both it would be s0 awes0me.
looks cool but it will have heavy competition with all the other arena fps that are in the making atm
you should definitely send it to steam greenlight
Thanks for the feedback!
ShoCk 3's -> Sorry if this isn't the right place to post. I thought it would be interesting to some people here because a lot of the game and movement (not shown too well in the trailer) is influenced by KZ & similar. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rQekNUT0QU This might show some of the movement features better.
JocA -> Although the engine is scalable, I'm don't think it will work well on lower end PCs. However, eventually I have an idea (only tested a proof of concept) of how to make the game run on practically ANY pc by using an alternate rendering engine. You'd still be able to connect to the same servers and play people who are using the UE4 version, but from a simplified OpenGL/d3d renderer.
Kraeft -> I want there to be no restrictions on how the game looks. If you'd feel more comfortable with untextured walls, or just the lightmap, or collision only view, etc, that'll be allowed and an option in the settings. I want the default mode to be a bit flashy and interesting to attract attention and stand out, but for competitive play I'd like everyone to customise it to however they would prefer to play the game. If you can customise a visual advantage out of the game, I want that to be allowed.
Morpheos=) -> Initially I'm aiming to get a 1v1 / duel arena mode working perfectly. However, the game does work for multiple. And eventually I'll be adding various game modes, 1v3 (shootmania style), 5v5, CTF, speedrun challenge mode, and maybe some kind of chase / hide and seek style mode. I'm targeting the basics for now but the rest will come in time.
propane -> Definitely high competition. I'm not trying to compete with those directly though. I think this game is based on a different concept to the other current arena games and hopefully will stand out.
pr3sto -> I'm not entirely familiar with steam greenlight. Do you think it would be better than Kickstarter? My current plan was to improve / polish the game enough to make a longer / full kickstarter trailer with a full explanation of the game, as well as to apply for a dev grant from the UE4 guys. I haven't looked into steam greenlight yet so I don't know much about it but thanks for the suggestion.
that speedrun challenge will be unbelievably
great idea! from my point of view hah
That clip reveals a lot more and I see now that kz influence to some extent. In some way from what it looks it's a nice combination of:
Reflex - for its graphics. Although theres nothing fantastic about it, basically just mirroring walls that quite a few games have already.
CS - for its speed. Although being a little too slow for a fps shooter imo.
Reborn (by 2gd) - for the movement traits such as wall jump and I think some others.
Warsow - for a lot of things actually.
But all in all I think it's something different that market has for today, I would with pleasure give it a try as I said.
Keep us posted!
AWESOME
I like how i looks, movement system which ur show in teaser. That walljump remind me first Unreal Tournament, nowadays its lil similar with Shootmania, also remind Quake 3 VQ3 physics.
Its is possible subscribe to your project for get latest news ?
The best way currently would be to subscribe to the youtube channel. I'll be posting video updates there.
Soon I'll launch a site with a proper news signup and other social media links.
omfg it looks amazing
sounds awesome bro keep it up!

Here's an update showing the new visual style, but it also shows how the movement features could work within an actual map. Soon I'll be making a jump map / kz style map to go along with a speedrun challenge game mode too.
Just awesome! Keep going, I wish you good luck. You are making something really nice and it looks promising.
