Hey guys!

As the title says, this is my first map EVER. Unfortunately, it's a shooting map. Next time I'll try to do a kz/hns map. Please I would like to hear some opinions about my map. I know there are many bugs and the fps is kinda sucky (cuz I couldn't find the leaks in my map).

Thank you for the attention! :)

For a first map is looks really nice, the only problem is that you clearly have a leak somewhere in your map, I got about 20 fps when running your map and also when I hooked to the sky it bugged. Try to find the leak.

I see you worked with the vertex tool which is impressive if this is your first map.
1. I would recommend new textures (better ones), these standard textures lower the quality of your map.
2. Try different settings of light, a better light would make your map look at least 2 times better than it is now.
3. When you apply the textures, try to make them all fit, as i see some of them are not aligned properly, especially in the "cave" room.

@Wops, I know there is a leak somewhere in the map. Though, I don't understand anything when I open the pointfile. There is a line which changes its color at different distances. How am I supposed to understand where the leak comes from?

@Keo, yes this is my first map. I've watched Comandeer's tutorials which are easy-understandable and detailed. On your 1st question: could you suggest me some textures or a site where I can download some good textures, cuz I don't know any. And your 2nd one: I used light_environment. Are there any better choices for lightning? I also want to make the cave a bit darker to look just like a real cave.

Thank you two for the opinions! I would like to hear more people criticizing my map. :)

@Wops
if there was a leak he might also not beb able to compile the map tho? i mean im not sure if he skipped the errors then..

@lelekolko, good job on the map, now u need to focus on how u create the brush work, since you do alot of vertex and some complex stuff, u fall into some issues, to find a leak i gave an advice on the other thread i gave, also fps bugs cause not only from leaks also maybe from ur models or bad brushwork possibly.

good luck.

You can compile the map if there's a leak. The problem is that map then lags as shit and has no lights.

I can give you some wads with textures, or ask people to share some, or you could search wads with good textures on the internet. it's quite easy. I think there are some wads posted even on xj if i remember correctly.

As for light, i mostly use light_spot (with "Is there sky: YES" option on) because you can most of the times get a better effect in realism, plus it's more effective than light_environment when it comes to how you want your light to be on your map. I find it better.

Yeah i understand, i mean its weird that the mapper skip such errors then .

Once you realize that building a map is a lot like building with Lego's, it becomes really easy to avoid leaks in the future. Everything should stick and align perfectly together, without there being a gap in between. (Try increasing grid size to a higher number and dragging your brushes to where they automatically "click" together with another brush).

Good luck.
